Looking real good hippohippo, will look amazing when you age and relume the hands and dial.

I ordered the same watch from Silix yesterday and they have come back saying it's out of stock !!!!. the alternative big crown model is also out, They have two small crown models with numbered dials but the dial numbers look to fat and the insert is wrong and the bezel is not coin edged. Can anyone recomend a place to order a similiar model as base for a vintage build that is similar in price, there's no point me buying a model that needs lots of replacement parts at teh moment as my budget won't stretch that far.

Looks good. Now you need to take the dial and movement out of the case and tone down the lume some- maybe some tea to stain it or something else.
Yeah, I'm a bit nervous about that, not to sure where to start with the dial and hands, I've looked at loads of threads about ageing, just not sure what to try first or what to do when it goes wrong!!

The case looks great, so the metalized pearl (which is wrong for this watch) should be removed or replaced. Are you going to do anything to enhance the patination of the dial & hands?
Thanks Freddy, yep some dial and hand ageing is on the horizon, as soon as I pluck up the courage! I've managed to remove the lume from the metal holder in the bezel now, do I need to remove this too?

Yes, that era had only a dab of goo in the insert hole, or a tiny acrylic "pearl" with some goo inside the plastic hemisphere.

It was much later that the inserts acquired a metal ring around the domed pearl.

By now, many gens have lost their pearl (and it's not been replaced) so if you just removed yours altogether that would be perfectly appropriate too.

Ditto. Considering the appearance of the case, I think having a hole in the insert (where the pearl presumably used to be) would look more authentic than sporting anything less than a naturally-aged, gen part.

Cheers for the help guys, much appreciated :)

Here she is sans pearl!

Off to look at as many ref pics as I can now ready for the dial and hands treatment.

Much better.

I forgot to mention in my 1st post that, while you may like the look, superdomes were not used on Subs until long after the 6200 went out of production. The 6200 should have a Tropic 17 crystal

My 6536/1 has a T16, which may give you a better idea of the height/profile of these early Sub crystals

Cheers for that Freddy, I'm not sure if any other crystal will fit the Silix case, or even how to check! Guess I need to add "new crystal" to my growing list of mods to do! I've also noticed that gen 6200s don't have the extra two lines of text that mine does, I don't suppose anyone know if it's possible to remove them, maybe with thinners or something?

Since your watch is not gen-powered anyway, why not just call it an Explorer-style 5510 & call it a day
