Can a 1030 caliber fit in a 5508 case?

My hero, freddy has enlightened me to the fact that the 1030 and 1530 diameters are the same but the crown locations may be different. Does anyone know if this is possible at all? I've a 1030 from pBdad and am hoping to use it

Why not get a 6536 or 6538 case?

The 1530 is a bit more compact than the 1030, Rolex upgraded the 6536 with 1030 to the 5508 with 1530 and the 6538 with 1030 to the 5510 with 1530. I believe that your 1030 movement would be slightly too thick to work in a 5508... You might want to make either a 6536 or 6538 as mentioned above.

Right! Just build a 6538. I own a gen 5508 but I prefer the big crown style!

Another thought would be to trade the 1030 for a 1530 movement- it ought to be an even swap for the most part. You could also use a 1560 or 1570 w/o the date or a 1520. I realize the beat on the 1570/1520 is higher so the 1530/1560 would be more accurate.

Easy fix for any watchmaker...

1...if they have a Breguet hairspring for a 1030 laying around (pn 6936) not many on eBay

2...if they know how to vibrate/trim/mount the hairspring to make sure the rate spot on

each hairspring/balance combo is matched at the factory and there is very little rate adjustment after it is in the watch

3...if they know how to check the poise of the balance wheel to make sure it is Ok

4...if they know how to correct out of flat and out of round balance wheels if needed

etc, etc...

 

This is very $pecialized work.

Ditto. That would be the easiest route & I think the 1030 is the most beautiful caliber Rolex ever put out anyway

Plam B is to buy an old Rolex Air King with the 1530 movt, or an Oyster Perpetual with the 1530/1560 in it like this one

Coz i had the opportunity to buy a gen 6536 dial, and i have a 5508 case...

wont work with this combo...i also have a gen dial laying around dial for 6536: diameter is 26,98/ 27. dial feet for 1030 dial for 5508: diameter is 27,69 circa. dial feet is 1530 when the watch is tampered by a bad watchmaker, they will do anything to fit the parts into the watch and sell it...lots of dial have been trimmed and dial feet removed. last year i went to a reputable watchmaker and saw a bunch of no crown guard dial in his part box. all of the dials with the feet removed and the edge has been shaved.
