dbutlerman Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Hey guys - I'm about to pull the trigger on this Gen 16800...what do you guys think? Anything glaringly wrong with it? Crown looks odd to me...any opinions?
dbutlerman Posted July 15, 2013 Author Report Posted July 15, 2013 I think the bulbous crown is just a reflection...the 6:00 side of the crown looks right...any opinions on the rest?
AsiadeCuba Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 who you buying it from? i was about to pull the trigger on a gen as well.

alligoat Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Looks good to me, original bezel insert, nice dial, a side pic of the crown would tell you if it's the correct older tall crown.
AsiadeCuba Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Haha no I stopped that endeavor but thats gen for sure.

AsiadeCuba Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 yup i know as well. great seller. almost brought my gen 1675 from him. hope you tried to haggle him a bit. he's not always firm on his price.
dbutlerman Posted July 17, 2013 Author Report Posted July 17, 2013 Yup. Talked to him a couple of times And he worked with me on the price.
cc33 Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 He's a great guy, bought a 5508 from him and he was a gentleman through and through, recent article on him http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/watch-shopping-in-san-francisco-inside-hq-milton-mission
dbutlerman Posted July 17, 2013 Author Report Posted July 17, 2013 I saw that article too...I've always oggled the pictures he takes...but after seeing that article, the volume of watches he has in the shop is amazing!
alligoat Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 LOL, I thought that was a Jacek picture! Just couldn't find the watch on VRM. But I didn't go back more than 3-4 days
dbutlerman Posted July 17, 2013 Author Report Posted July 17, 2013 He never listed it, I stumbled upon it on his website. We are going to meet up on Monday for a face to face. He says he took the watch over to Rolex for water testing and they found that it had a 16660 Bezel assembly, which he has had swapped for a 16800. I am waiting on the pics of the change. Hopefully he left the original Bezel Insert in tact...
dbutlerman Posted July 17, 2013 Author Report Posted July 17, 2013 Here's a picture of the replacement bezel - any more thoughts?
alligoat Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 Looks good to me. Insert looks the same as mine- c.1981.You've got the original datewheel also
gavidoc Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Good buy. I've got a gen silver datewheel for that beauty if interested and that sub has a white one. Makes all the difference.
dbutlerman Posted July 20, 2013 Author Report Posted July 20, 2013 From what I understand the only made a few very early ones. Do you have an original 3035 silver?
gavidoc Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 From what I understand the only made a few very early ones. Do you have an original 3035 silver? Yes I have a total of three. I put one on the 16800 pictured above. Another will go on my 16750 which leaves one extra. 1
