702 tube vs 703, a question

Hey guys. Have a question regarding the threads of a 702 tube vs a 703.

Will a case tapped for a 703 take a 702 as well without the need to retap, or is the threading different on the 702?

You'd sure hope it's the same! My watchmaker changed the 702 assembly on my gen 1680 to a 703 assembly w/o a hitch, but he did retap the hole just to be safe. And I don't swim w/ that watch, so I'll never test it!

thanks. have one of the hh prototypes for the 5514 and I am putting a 702 on it. havent gotten it yet but I tried with another 702 and it only went halfway in so a little concerned

As a side - isn't the 5514 supposed to have a 700 crown/tube set?

700 is to vulnerable, 703 to bulky.

I replaced a gen 703 with an aftermarket 702 recently and it went in without a fuss. No guarantee for a gen 702 though.

Most 5514 with Comex signature date to the mid 70's. So a 701/702 would be well appropriate!

What is the thread pitch of a gen 702 tube?

I too am having difficulty with a 702 tube in a 703 (0.35) tapped case. My suspicion is that it might require a different tap. If so, why would Rolex do that?

DB is your tube gen or aftermarket? I ask because there is only one tap listed for the 603,700-703 tubes. .35 is the pitch. Could be that the previous tap wasn't sharp enough?

I always run the tap slowly to make sure that the threads are ok before putting a tube in.

DB and I are both working with the same HH 5514 case. I havent recieved my NOS 7020 tube yet, but the one I currently have only went in half way BUT, it seems a little stripped, or rep for that matter. Will know in a few days once the tube arrives if its the case, or the tube

I got nothing but parts right now E. Have a lot of work to do on the case before I put it together. And still dancing around the idea of getting a hacking 1520 instead of using the non hacking 1560 that I currently have. PS, yuki case is still yours once I get this stupid hunk of metal together

It was sold to me as a NOS 702 tube.

So either the tube is a rep, or the pitch on a 702 is different. Or I'm just a wimp and should put more muscle in screwing it in.

703s always screwed right in.

I just installed a yuki 7030 tube into a 5514 HH case.

Even though it was originally correctly tapped (correct pitch), I had to retap the threads to get the tube all the way in.

which tool did you use for retapping the case? I've had similar difficulties with screwing my 0702 NOS tube all the way in..

Three of us having same problem with a 702 tube.   It's gotta be a different pitch.  But what?  0.30?  0.40?  0.25?  I think we can safely say that it is NOT 0.35

Thats something I have never heard before.

All 6 and 7mm Rolex tubes use the same thread.

This is the HH case before the re-tapping.

I used the thread tap I always use.

For 700 or 703 tubes or even 600 tubes.

Always worked, should work on a 702.

The tool that cuts the thread onto the corresponding tube (or bolt or equivalent) is called the "die"

For Rolex 700/703 tubes, it requires an M3x0.35mm tap. (Handy to have in your tool box.)

0.35 is the "pitch".... Which is the distance from one thread to another. In this case 0.35mm for 703 tubes.

Apparently the jury is still out on the required tap for a 702. I'm certain it's still an M3 tap, but having the wrong pitch makes all the difference in the world.

@Dbane883.........could be that the pitch is different on a 7020 tube?If you have the different taps I could send you a useless case you could retap and try the 7020 tube to she which pitch and tap it is.
