juicemouse Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Starting a new 5500 project and I have acquired a gen 5500 case and gen 78350 Bracelet with 557 ends (In MINT condition). So far have about $1100 sunk into this project. Would you guys go ahead and get the gen movement for $1000-1500 or stick with the ETA?
juicemouse Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 What dial will you be using? I'll decide on the dial after I decide on the movement. Currently have a whoopy explorer dial but it's designed for ETA
1680 Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I could be wrong, but isn't Whoppy's Explorer dial for a 1016 ?
ogladio Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Thought so too. The 1016 case is 2 mm larger right?
quaresma7 Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I could be wrong, but isn't Whoppy's Explorer dial for a 1016 ? Whoppys have dials for 1016 I've one from him
lionsandtigers Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 1520. Might as well go all the way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
alligoat Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I've quit doing Rolex movements in reps/frankens- you just end up with an expensive franken. I think some of the best reps are the ones where people build a nice watch using an eta movement. A 5500 Explorer w/ an eta will still be a very nice watch

I don't plan on selling this and if you can get the parts at the right price, why not?
juicemouse Posted March 4, 2014 Author Report Posted March 4, 2014 I guess I'll get a 5500 dial from Yuki. Any other makers I should consider? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
alligoat Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 I would think Yuki is your best bet- they have a bunch of 5500 dials, reasonable prices. Look forward to seeing your watch when you get it done.
