Big Dazza Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Haha well made you look. Its actually an Invicta Pro Diver I had lying around. The movement was dead and I initially tried to sell it on for someone else to play with but I loved the dial work too much to throw it away so I bought another cheap Invicta to take apart for the movement transplant. After I got the movement swapped I thought it would be a good chance to turn it into a nice modern day interpretation of a big crown homage. I began shaving the crown guards off and fitted a nice non graduated bezel insert with ofrei pearl (relumed of course) and put in a nice domed plexi crystal front AND back on the display caseback. I then found an old big lollipop seconds hand which I broached to fit the NH35A movement. The result..... Pretty snazzy looking
Big Dazza Posted April 9, 2014 Author Report Posted April 9, 2014 Thanks Mike, its so comfortable and looks so much nicer in person (damn my photography skills) I cant wait to see how the plexi on the caseback will age
Vegasvic Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 I like those Invictas. I used to have a PO homage, but the 50mm case was a little too large for my wrist. But it had a nice Miyota movement and solid build.
Big Dazza Posted April 9, 2014 Author Report Posted April 9, 2014 They're definately under-rated pretty good value for money if you get them for about £50
asciwhite Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 DUDE!! I was expecting Rolex porn & I got this??? Shame on you *LOL*
AKTime Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 They're definately under-rated pretty good value for money if you get them for about £50 Can you tell me more about the dial aging process that you used? I am working on a 5500 explorer vintage build and would like to age my dial to match the gen case. This is some great dial aging!
Big Dazza Posted April 9, 2014 Author Report Posted April 9, 2014 I used a satin varnish spray dusted over lightly and smoke aged it to dull it down a bit buddy 1
droptopman Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Big D that is some awesome work. Now I wish I hadn't gave my 16 year old nephew my invicta collection. I could have used them to learn about modding. That looks really good man. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cayman35 Posted June 29, 2016 Report Posted June 29, 2016 Big Dazza, I was looking at your post of the vintage Invicta. Fantastic job on the aged dial. Am expecting a Yuki Explorer dial with white lume. Would like to give that a bit of aging. Not too much but definitely need to get rid of the bright white lume. In your post you mention a 'smoking technique' and a satin varnish spray. I was wondering how the smoking technique works. Is that where you put the dial on top of a funnel with a cigarette underneath or do you use a cigarette to apply heat to the lumed indexes? If you use a cigarette, does the watch not stink like smoke since smoke must permeate the dial? Personally my first thought was to bake the dial under a broil, just lightly but might be a mistake. Definitely interested to learn more about your experience. Thanks!
alligoat Posted June 29, 2016 Report Posted June 29, 2016 That's a pretty nice mod Big D! You've certainly made that Invicta look better, congrats!
jjfesq Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 Kind of cool Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
