rkdk Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 Hi guys. Just got my killer franken from a fellow member here, and now the hunt begins for improvements. Can anyone help me determine if this is a gen dial? Im really no expert. Cheers RKDK
lhooq Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 If that's not a genuine dial, then it's the best aftermarket black dial I've ever seen.
UmpaHimself Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 If that's not a genuine dial, then it's the best aftermarket black dial I've ever seen. yep..100% gen... Seems to be no question. Is there an obvious tell?
bipbip Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 GEN IMHO The réal question is the price ...
TgfRulez Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Yes, what's the price? Sent from my iPhone 5C
denimhead Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Certainly looks Gen, and incredibly clean
theblueprince Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) Gen, i think it might be one that Minh had and offered me a while ago and is now sold, i guess the new owner selling it on. Edit - Same style and model of dial but not the actual same one, Minh's had dirtier sub dials and lume dot damage on different plots. Edited October 12, 2014 by theblueprince
rkdk Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 Hi guys. Thanks for your input. Im still sharking this one, so ill let you know if i get it :-) cheers RKDK
lhooq Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Seems to be no question. Is there an obvious tell? As a whole, it's more the absence of negative tells: Sharp printing with characters spaced properly and serifs where they should be, correct dishing/grooving of the subdials, Singer coronet, disintegrating tritium spots... I can only guess what this thing is going for these days, but I figure anything less than $3000 would be a good buy. Yes, that's the world we live in.
janeto72 Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 In this shape...$3800-$4500.00 USD....maybe more.. Vintage 1972-1974.
theblueprince Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 Crazy prices now. Minh wanted about $2900 for his more "patina'd" one. I passed and thought i'd hold out for a Sigma then had a fit of sense and picked up an early Tritium service dial for $1600. At least you wouldn't lose money on it if kept in same condition.
lhooq Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 In this shape...$3800-$4500.00 USD....maybe more.. Vintage 1972-1974. J, you're probably right about the value. I thought this might be a slightly later dial due to the high ROC and lack of sigmas, but nailing down the production years of these black dials confuses me. Was there any pattern as to when the sigmas appeared?
janeto72 Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 Sigma's are even more expensive...the batons are 18K white gold and there is speculation that the coronet is as well...... If you have a sigma dial in like condition...70-72....$5500-$6500.00 USD, 73-74........$5800-$6800.00 USD, 75.....$8500-$10,000.00 USD
janeto72 Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 Sigmas appeared in late 1970....there were three versions.... up to 1975.
