dieselpower Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 I am planning a 1016 build and I would like to replicate this watch: I have a JMB case set with movement ring, a 2824 ETA movement, TC handset. As far as I can see the seconds hand is an issue and of course, the dial. Question is, am I pis**ng into the wind or do I stand a chance of achieving my goal? Any help/suggestions as to where I might source the missing bits of the jigsaw would be greatly appreciated. Happy hallowe'en!
tomhorn Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Well, that's a 7206 (rivet) bracelet. Finding one of the good Yuki's would be your best bet there. The dial looks like a 60's MK1 dial. ND Trading appears to have one. http://ndtradingcorp.com/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=297 Cant tell if the hands are gold or silver. If they are silver, then go with the TC hands. Edited October 31, 2014 by tomhorn
lhooq Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 Cant tell if the hands are gold or silver. If they are silver, then go with the TC hands. Steel hands are much more common on the chapter-ring 1016s, but you will find gilt handsets on the earliest examples. By contrast, almost all the 6610 Explorers I've seen have gilt hands to match the dials. dieselpower: I suggest looking at ingod44's chapter dial, which is less than half the price of NDT's and looks very good.
HaydenM Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Good luck, I initially planned on replicating that exact watch (the Ian Fleming if I'm not mistaken?) but found it too difficult to get the vintage to look correct, so I took the easy route and made a "modern" 1016. As close as I got with the chapter ring: "Modern" 1016:

Nice! Which ETA movement did you use?
HaydenM Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Nice! Which ETA movement did you use? Mine uses a gen ETA-2824-2, which I think has the incorrect beat-rate but I'm not currently too worried about it.

jackflash Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Here was mine with Ingod dial: Very nice!
dieselpower Posted November 1, 2014 Author Report Posted November 1, 2014 I looked at ingod44 but his chapter dial has gilt lettering and I wanted white like the Ian Fleming. Also he is out of stock. I don't like the look of the NDTrading dial at all especially don't like their prices! Does look like I'm pis**ng into the wind then. Oh well not the first time.
ww12345 Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 I believe IF's is gilt but just hard to photo that way. I could be wrong though... I know RSC serviced it before it went on display...
thesheriff Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 I just managed to get a 7206 bracelet from Yuki for my explorer 1016 build.......decided its not for me so looking to offload it if you're interested? I'm gonna try and get a gen 7836.
dieselpower Posted November 1, 2014 Author Report Posted November 1, 2014 @ thesheriff, sent you a PM
