I personally like technical stuff, I do computers mainly both for a hobbie as well as for my employement, I dabble in RC cars and Home theater. What do you like to do? Cooking: Dishes are a [censored] to shoot, so I won't even bother with that one. Having shot for a living at one point, you wouldn't even believe how much $$$ goes into cookbook shoots--unbelievably expensive--and everything on the table's fake (painted lard as ice-cream, glass as ice, airbrushing poultry so it looks cooked, painted "grill" lines on steaks, wax vegetables, etc). The cost of rental for sets, props, chinese knickknacks, Indian copper, Iranian brass, kitchen equipment, chefs, artists to arrange the place settings...it's as complicated as a movie shoot. I specialize in Ethnic dishes, so anything you name I've probably got a recipe for: Ethiopian Doro Wat, Hungarian Paprikash, Japanese Nabemono dishes, German Sauerbraten, Coq Au Vin...you name it, it's probably in this head somewhere. Photography: Since I sold all my 35mm, medium-format (God, how I miss my Mamiya...), digi SLR, & lighting equip, all I'm left with is a Canon Powershot 5 MP. Here's some old non-pro-this-n-that, personal stuff I've got scanned on the ol' iMac HD. Nothing special, just mainly stuff for girlfriends, friends, etc.: Painting: Here are a few of my last gallery pieces. Primarily combine-art, and found-object art in the style of Joseph Beuys, Robert Rauschenberg, Antoni Tapies, etc.: "Bubblegum" 34in x 36in Graphite illustration, photo-transfer, goldleaf, charcoal, epoxy glue, sand, and electrograph lettering on foam core "Is this love?" 40in x 40in Third Reich Deutchmarks (transfered to clear acetate paper), linen napkins, cardboard, gesso, and charcoal on canvas (I know the French isn't grammatically correct, as it's not supposed to be) " *48 " 36in x 72in Collage of newsprint articles & cross-word puzzles, photo-transfer (on to milky poly-acetate), Polaroid Land-camera transfers & negatives, paper scraps, latex lettering, electrograph lettering, metal rulers, oil pint, acrylic paint, colored pencil, and graphite on two pallet-racks Drawing: Too much time in life spent training on Chuck Close-ish photo-real graphite illustration (I love the conceptual pieces over the idea of simple beauty; primarily combine-painting much better ). Here are some graphite sketches on asphaltum (petrol based tar used to coat metal plates in intaglio & lithography) and mineral-spirit stained home-made paper: (now, these sketches are still attached to a sketch-book so I couldn't get them directly against the glass to close the lid & measure about 11 x 14, so I did have to crop the images in order to get them to scan the best I could, but they should give you a general idea. I've also tried to preserve the original color of the home-made paper & asphaltum stain as best I could in Photoshop) (sketches of Staci) (sketches of Arianne) Horticulture: Orchids, mainly. I also collect some new pens, Namiki vanishing point, Pelikans, Omas, Delta. Whatever catches my eye. I collect/restore vintage straight razors (and use them). I'm also into double-edged razors; Gillete adjustables are my favorite, and what I shave with 90% of the time. Whittling/wood carving a little. Cooking. Guitar. Competitive trap/skeet shooting. I'm a little ADD when it comes to hobbies. I get interested in something and am 100% about it until I feel I've achieved some level of mastery of knowledge/skills, then I move on to something else. Also old movies, Mad Magazines and comic books. I am a bit of a nerd/ collector/ pack rat. Is drinking considered a hobby? That "consumes" a bit of my time as well. I used to call poker a hobby until I started making a living at it. Now it is more of a business. I do play low stakes poker for fun however. I am quite devoted to music and theatre especially opera and ballet - ( no i am not gay - but thanks for asking) ... i am also into architecture and art . currently am studing for a BA in Theology and Philosophy (for the hell of it)... Previously i used to work in fashon PR- so i used to follow fashion recreationally until my job robbed me of the pleasure. I also enjoy talking pretentiously about global politics - like i know anything about world politics :-) . OH yeah im really into antiques esp phones and typewritters - anything odd and quirky ... oh and cheese- i am a certified fromagephile. did i mention i smoke aswell so im keen on tobacco of all types . I also have a saltwater fishtank which takes up more money and time than it may be worth, but i like it I also play the piano, not as much as a should but I've been practicing more lately. This absolutely describes me and my hobbies 100%. I have shelves and drawers of things that had me literally dreaming about how to tinker/fix/learn more about them for months, then one day, died off entirely and left me moving on to something else. I think watches are a little more timeless than lots of my other hobbies so hopefully they will last a little longer but I am totally prepared to find out next year that my investments will remain in a box in the back of a closet somewhere for the rest of my life when the next thing comes along for me to learn. Sadly I don't own a home so as an apartment dweller there is only so much I can do (or should bother with)... I just upgraded from a 4805 to an HD72 (got it for about $800 new from Overstock so couldn't resist) and now I am in the process of redoing the mount/screen to accomodate the offset and take advantage of the zoom... Bike riding for years replaced by motorcycles (44 years). Rock and fossil collecting, fresh and salt water fish tanks, coin collecting, metal detecting, astronomy and computers (hardware and software - wrote games, word processor and database back in 1987) Watches is new this year and I am enjoying this new hobby a lot. Also, Photography for 35 years starting out with a Mamiya Secor 35mm and Yashika twin lense and did college shots around the campus for the school newspaper. Darkroom replaced by photoshop. Don't know if cinema and reading belong here but wife and I hit the cinema weekly and read a novel every two weeks when things are slow and every 3 days when it it a good book.
