Yuki 7206 Bracelet no longer accepts gen spec bars

Recommended Posts

We are working on one of the newer Yuki 7206's to adapt the end piece set up to be similar to gen and so that will accept 2mm bars.  Also another issue with the stock Yuki is that the last link/rivets are too thick and hits the lugs on both a gen spec 5513 and 6538 cases. The way the end pieces attach to the last link does not provide enough clearance and also does not allow the bracelet to lay flat like gen.  I worked on mine but lacked the tools and materials to finish the idea I had to make it work, so sent it to a friend who has more experience and talent with these type of mods.  Once I get it back, I will write up the process....if it works.  I ended up buying a gen 7206 but still thought this would be a valuable contribution to the community if we can get it to work correctly.

Thanks for this, very interesting. I haven't been able to find any other supplier who can get a bracelet even close to Yuki's. I'm not sure who his supplier is but clearly they either only produce small batches or Yuki only buys them in small amounts. I doubt it's the latter as Yuki has such a demand for them he'd unlikely but small batches. I know previously Yuki was offering them in 2mm gen spec sizes so it's strange now he specifically says it can't fit 2mm.

Anyway I look forward to seeing your update. But equally I will keep my ear to the ground for anyone selling their bracelet :)

"Valuable contribution" doesn't begin to describe it. :tu:

It's possible to make a Yuki look and feel like a gen, except for that blasted end link. All my vintage pieces need folded/riveted bands and your little project here is gonna save me $2,000 plus for each one.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome!

Do you mean you have previously bought yuki 7206 that accepted gen spec bars?

When I get a Yuki I use my cheap $7 set of grocery store jeweler screwdrivers and I cram and twist the #3 slotted driver through the springbar tube. Then I cram the small Phillips through there and twist to open it up. I can do that and get gen bars through the end links and make it fit my vintage cases.

Exactly my experience too Nanuq. To me it's just a rumour that Yuki has had a 2mm version to sell previously - but could be wrong...

If you search some recent threads many who were lucky enough to buy these bracelets when in stock were asking Yuki to convert the bracelet before shipping. Clearly and sadly he's no longer doing this :(

Similar to other posts.  Had an old one and one from last year.  Both needed modification to accept 2mm bars.  The second one I buggered up which lead to the idea of actually modding it to make it more gen like on the connection to the case.  Trying to modify a gen like tab on the last link to connect to the end link so it will clear the case and lay flat.

Dammit DTM, quit typing and go create that magical missing piece.  My many Yuki bands and vintage watches depend on you!  You're my only hope!

Reviving and older post. Decided to bite the bullet and give one of Yuki's 7206 bracelets a try on a PCG 5513. On arrival the endlinks looked a little flat, maybe they were stepped on in transit, so not a great start. (The bracelet was in a FedEx envelop without protection, it had been opened by customs – also delivered to the wrong address. I was surprised to see at all.)

On to the pics. Endlinks on arrival:

As in previous posts, the endlink loops need to be massaged, or more precisely cudgelled into shape to accept gen spec springbars. Here's the result, strap and endlinks still need some final finishing and the bracelet hasn't been resized.

Still not 100% sure it suits the watch, profile of the endlinks are probably more suited to a 6538 or 1016.

End links don't look great I agree. Great bracelet though. Still haven't gotten one yet. Shame Yuki didn't bother packing it with any care considering the price!

"On arrival the end links looked a little flat."

It might be possible to round out the tops a little with chain nose or needle nose pliers with jaws ground or made for the job. I have done it but it is not easy with thick metal end links, and these look pretty thick.

Something similar to this might work. Clamp the bottom of the link in the pliers and form the top with a rawhide mallet. The end links have to be removable though.

Coronet:  "Yep, here's a comparison with the gen:"

Looks like melted ice cream. They could do better.

"Great bracelet though."

Looks good.

The only Yuki 7206 I ever got with "good" end links was one of his very first. Since then I've bought at least 10 and every one had truly grotesque end links. I've worked on my last one extensively and have it to where it's nearly acceptable if I don't look too close.

If someone were to offer separate end links to go on a Yuki or MQ 7206, he'd make a fortune.

See it CAN be done but it's not easy.

Looks very good. I did buy a couple of 80 endlinks from MQ ages ago, unfortunately they come without the linking component. l almost forgot I had them. They have a better profile than Yuki's. However, it would take someone will skills way beyond mine to sort out the construction to attach them to the bracelet.

Thought I may as well exchange the 80 endlinks with a set from MQ I had knocking around as I wasn't happy with the originals from Yuki. It's a tricky job but managed fairly well. First I dismantled the Yuki endlinks.

Massage the springbar retainer until it can accept gen-spec springbars.

Reassemble by slipping the springbar retainer though the MQ endlink. Carefully fold back the springbar retainer around the last bracelet link bar. I masked everything off while doing this, using various screwdrivers and pliers to get everything back in place.

So, endlink revision done. Not something I intend to do a again in a hurry.
