Stephane
Hi all, I received my so called perfect submariner some days ago and for 149$, I'm pretty sure one couldn't find better. As I'm not an expert at all, I will not say anything about the flaws as I might even don't see them. One became obvious after seing the pics: insert, but I even missed it with the loup ! Here are the pics: it took me an entire a day of reading posts to achieve my first pics publishing. I learned that I needed a tripod, that I should host the pics outside of the board, and so on. I might be better at pics one day as I'm not done yet with readings ;-) The Lume pic is very hard... Note that I wear it daily so light scratches are visible of course. chrgod
Very well done pictures of a nice watch! I like the lume shot. Interesting to see that you got a ETA 2834-2 movement... I guess that is similar to the more common 2824-2 and 2836-2. Date mag is a bit too small for my taste, but I am sure that lot of people will find it correct. Ozzy
Yeah, the date mag is abit low, like all of the 'so called' subs. The pearl is wrong, but they all are. @Stephane: how long was the delivery?

I didn't even check that ;-) what I can say is that it's not yet keeping good time...+ 15 secs/day and though I try to fine tune it, it doesn't seem to change it. I'll keep trying for another week though... Cheers Stephane

jdkno
would it be too much to ask where you got it for $149? Nice pictures as well BTW, lume shot looks nice which is always a hard shot to get.

jfreeman420
Nice pics, however I would like to see you photograph something other than a sub. What's your next purchase? Good photography and great watches is surely a death sentence for your bank account. Hey admin: How about a new forum called my first replica AKA pics of my sub? chrgod
... One thing I wondered about, but did not mention... Why is the inside of the caseback stamped with "2160"?? The inside of the caseback has good engravings, without any spelling errors.. So what is the story behind 2160...? The subs I have seen so far have been engraved with the model number in the caseback..?
Stephane
Hi All, Thanks for "compliments", I was sincerely afraid to post this topic . It encourages me to improve... Actually I posted the Sub SoCalledPerfect because it's a great deal, 149$ (I'm in the euro zone btw, and it makes it even cheaper in a way). I have more watches though (Breitling, Officine Panerai, and Rolex only so far). I thought it might be interresting for those who are paying 230, 300, 400 to see that, at the end of the day, they all have their own flaws, even MBW I guess (Not sure if I will join the group buy or not yet). What I try to do is make pictures of all the watches I have so far, and from the next ones, and update my photobucket. Then I'll put the link in my signature. 4 Freeman: the list is long and my bloody bank account it limited. An Ultimate Pam (I love 88 and 164 specially but could expand the choice to a lot of others since I only have a 1950 and a Daylight), hopefully a 1680, IWC Spitfire Chrono, an AP ROO (but not yet sure because of minutes @9), an HBB (same), a JLC Réserve de Marche, Chronomat evolution white dial/brown leather band, and whatever I didn't discover so far.... I would be gratefull to have your opinion on the list Cheers Stephane In the meantime, thank god I found this place, and here are some shots from 2 or 3 weeks ago. Sorry, another classic and not that exiting:
jfreeman420
... One thing I wondered about, but did not mention... Why is the inside of the caseback stamped with "2160"?? That is the birthday of the person who assembled the watch. There is never any rhyme or reason as to why the asians put certain markings where they do. Why engrave a Rolex crown on the rotor of an ETA movement? I think I will play 2160 today in the play 4 lottery. Lucky number.
jfreeman420
The list looks great, but you need a little bling bling!!! I'm in the same boat with the AP ROO. I want the HBB also but wainting for a full gold version. (I'm in the euro zone btw, and it makes it even cheaper in a way). Damn dollars ain't worth 2 nickels these days. bklm1234
It's good value for $149. It fails to capture the essense of the sub like a TW Best or MBW. I have owned the noobmariner (which is the same watch as yours except for the Asian movement), Josh's, a couple subs bought from China, and a TW Best. When I put on my TW Best, I finally could say this one really feels like it. The noobmariner/so-called feels like a different watch, serious. Why? The short and thin rehaut, the thick crystal seal, the thin crystal (looks like you sanded down the bezel insert or you got lucky that the insert sits a little recessed in the bezel, making the crystal look quite high), and the shorter and angled-down bezel teeth. These things have to be adequately right to creates the submariner feel, more so than the dial, the crown, and the crown guard. TW Best can achieve these elements very well. Here's my unfinished TW Best. I need to work on the bezel insert to make it more recessed and smooth out the CG U better. The bracelet needs to sit lower between the lugs. TW Best is a lot of work but it's worth it. It's only $100 more but needs many parts to be near perfect but at least it can be. before mod: unfinished mod:

Torques
Thanks for all these informations. I am a regular customer of TW so, I will probably continue my quest and get a TW too... Cheers Stephane Who is TW? What is your opinion of Josh's noob for 108.00? It has that 2813 running at 28. What is perception of that movement? Is it realiable? Edited February 17, 2007 by Torques
bklm1234
Who is TW? What is your opinion of Josh's noob for 108.00? It has that 2813 running at 28. What is perception of that movement? Is it realiable? search on rwi, somebody bought one. It's the same watch as Paul's so-called and the noobmariner except the movement. If it really runs at 28, it's more desirable than the noobmariner which runs at 21 (I think. Anyway lower BPH). The Asian movements are getting better and better. For $108, if it breaks down, just swap in another. It costs ~$20. BTW, TW Best is a version of sub and other vintage subs. I think for starter or who don't intend to mod, get the noobmariner/beginmariner/nyphomariner (almost every dealer has a one), they are the same watch with variations in movements. You'll be sufficiently satisfied until you get more into this rep game. -bm Edited February 18, 2007 by bklm1234
Stephane
That's a hell of a dirty movement--needs to be cleaned, seriously. Yes you are absolutely right. An update about that movement though: When I received it it was running 15 seconds too fast per 24 hours or so. Fine tuned it this week-end and since the last 24 hours it didn't gain or loose a second. I usually try to have my watches not gain or lose time for 48 hours as I never wear a watch more than 48 hours anyway. Only one watch did it: my GMT II with ETA 2836-2. It seems that this SoCalledPerfect could do it too. All others are close except the 7750 which are around 10 secs faster. Cheers Stephane
