FasTTaP Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 This vintage rollie collection at Trusty's is real hot... I love this explorer I, what do you think??? face rep: gen: side rep: gen: So... what do you guys think? what kind of mods should be done?
chrgod Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Vintage Explorer is a nice and understated Rolex. I believe that the case size is a bit off on the replicas. You might also check out Silix offerings. He is a bit cheaper than Trusty on these vintage pieces. http://www.silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1644
FasTTaP Posted August 11, 2007 Author Report Posted August 11, 2007 So... what mods would you suggest? (shameless bump)
dieselpower Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 I have this watch (bought from trusty). It is as far as I can tell a very good rep. I have studied photos of the gen and can see no glaring faults. The piece I have lets water in quite badly so no showering or bathing but thats just the luck of the draw. I do not know of any mods that would make it better other than some ageing to case and dial. The only obvious flaw is the movement (mine is eta 2836 - I think) which ticks too finely, the original would not have been that good!!
ShawnBeever Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 I had one of these from Trusty and sold it after a short while . I only have vintage Rolex reps. and I think the most important thing is the
FasTTaP Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 Impressive analysis... So you would rather go for the MBW? Much more expensive, though... But the lug thing is definitely a problem, since I intend to wear it on leather bracelet...
Dizzy Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 it looks pretty good i think as long as your not side but side with a gen. Drill out those lug holes and vintagize it a little and i think you will have a nice piece Lonnie

ShawnBeever Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 oups... sorry for your wallet, but here it is... (much much more expensive, though, wonder if the price difference is worth it...) mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Definitely worth the money to me. While it's still got some flaws the overall package just looks so much better. If it
FasTTaP Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 gasp... I'm ashamed, but I can't really spot the differences... could you enlight me? (also, it TTK has some, please let me know - no expecting an answer quickly since he's sick right now) Thanks

(also, it TTK has some, please let me know - no expecting an answer quickly since he's sick right now) Thanks Left Gen 1016, Mid. Possible MBW 1016, Right Trusty
stilty Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 (edited) The lug spacing is 20mm on the rep. and 19mm on the gen. Other than that it is 1:1. Good analysis, but the 1016 was also available with 20mm lugs as this watch was made into the 80's. I've seen gen's fitted with 78360 braclets which are 20mm. It just depends on how vintage you want to go. This beauty is from 1980 and is with 20mm lugs Edited August 13, 2007 by stilty
Heywood Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 That MBW is a great base for a nice explorer. I've been looking for one these for a long time. Just for everyones information the lug spacing on the full size explorer model 1016 was always 20 mm. The air king size explorer model 5500 had 19mm spacing. The 1016 was marked on the dial "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED", while the 5500 was marked "PRECISION".
FasTTaP Posted August 13, 2007 Author Report Posted August 13, 2007 The MBW has a 20mm lug spacing... so I guess it's a 80's edition replica...
