deltatahoe Posted September 26, 2007 Report Share Posted September 26, 2007 i've been traveling for the past 7 weeks and haven't been able to spend much time on RWG, but one thing i've noticed since i've gotten back is that the new bell & ross 42 mm watch with date has been released for a little while now (in a number of different styles), and no one seems to have written any sort of review on it yet. i'm a bit puzzled, as i feel like there were tons of people waiting for a reasonably accurate b&r rep in the 42 mm size. now the dial printing isn't perfect, and from what i can recall i remember someone saying the rep is too thick (i could be wrong here), but is there any reason people aren't giving this one a shot? at $189 shipped from puretime and i believe $139 shipped from paul, i would have guessed someone would have bought & reviewed one by now... so let's hear it -- any new 42 mm b&r w/ date owners out there? i'm particularly interested in the ss black dial version -- everyone knows pvd at this price isn't going to be much to talk about.... deltatahoe Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are several imperfections vs. the gen. CONS 1. The case is several mm thicker than gen 2. PVD is not gen PVD quality. 3. The one I recieved is the black face w/white numbers version and "LIMITED EDITION" is on it and the gen does not have this only orange/blue/phantom ver. PROS 1. Nice AR single sided 2. Estaban Posted September 26, 2007 Report Share Posted September 26, 2007 I received my PVD white marker version from Angus. Very nice watch. Dial was printed wrong (Limited Edition). Sent it back immediately. Should have my new one by Friday or Saturday. Impressions Heavy and well made Nice rubber and velcro strap Good AR Cool lume (two color which in not accurate), but short lasting I think this watch wears just as large as my 187. I can't believe that anyone could wear the 46mm version. I guess that's why it's worn over a flight jacket. I'll post pics when I get it. I might get the SS version too! deltatahoe Posted September 27, 2007 Author Report Share Posted September 27, 2007 I am tempted as well as it looks like a very good bang for the buck. @Estaban, could you please tell a but more about the lume which is inaccurate? @Deltatahoe... does Angus have a stainless steel verion 42mm with date and without 'limited edition' ? yellomen, do you have a multiple personality disorder? in this thread you mention it looks like a good bang for the buck; in the other thread you complain that it's overpriced. first off, angus does have the ss 42mm version w/ date and without "limited edition". i've attached a picture angus sent me; i figured posting pics of the rep and gen would probably be helpful for everyone (including me), so here we go: here is the picture of the rep (w/ the correct dial w/o limited edition) and here is the real deal my impressions from these pictures are as follows: -the dial print looks acceptable (probably could be better) -the date window might be a little bit too far from the edge of the dial, but this looks acceptable to me too (plus, it may look worse than it actually is given the angle of the picture) does anyone else see anything glaring that i'm missing? i'm probably going to go ahead and pick this one up - given estaban and relaxman's first impressions, i think the ss version will be good relative value (plus, if i really like it, i can always have ziggy make it glow properly).... deltatahoe Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

To me, this makes for a very first-glance rep tell on this watch... ... to the point that I even accepted blue hands and marks (I really like them) as well as the 'limited edition' text. To my knowledge, the dial and the hands should both have a light blue lume. The rep has blue dial with green hands (or visa versa). I sent it back because it was "limited edition". Have it on the nylon strap. Despite the heft of the watch, the strap makes it super comfy and almost as if you're not wearing anything. Does wear large, and goes great with a sporty sweater. Reading this very informative thread, it seems that even without the Limited Edition, it's again far away from a perfect B&R though. I'll go with AjoeSmith's PVD group buy. PVDing it will make it "special" enough to wear it hopefully. No illusions though: it's another trendy watch and will probably never become a classic! Smooth sweeping hand, great AR, clean dial and case. I don't know why people think the PVD looks bad. I think it's great! Take a look. I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist and the Rubber strap is only comfortable on the last hole on the strap . How does the nylone strap feel compared to the Rubber? I think the Rubber strap is to short . Cheers Stephane I agree with steph. I'm in to purchase/try a B&R (SS version), but think that this model will never become a classic and die eventually. It does have a unique shape, however and probably be remembered for its' design. I like it for its' readability and most of the purchasers I know like the fact that they can take a quick glance and see the time. It's simple and no-nonsense. It's either a love it-or-hate it design; much like the Panerais. The irony is that the people who complain that the BR's are silly-looking like the "oversizedness" of the Panerai series.
