Terror

I read this story in the New York Times recently regarding replica bags and replica luxury goods. It definitely is a thought provoking piece.

... apart from the linking of Counterfeiting to Terrorism is complete and utter fabrication. There is no link between Terrorism and counterfeit watches.

Thought provoking..............

I thought immediately of a recent TV documentary investigation into a legit Brand Name producing Genuine designer clothes, on USA soil, using indentured slave labour. Funding Terrorism????? no, only shareholders!

Organised crime feeding off your reps a055.gif

Not likely

Feeding off your next Pizza, Restaurant bill, etc...........certain!!

Totally agree, besides that, i have't seen any replica brides in Joshua's album... his search for the perfect sub seems to take more of his time as to finding the perfect boob...

For the most part, horse-[censored].

Indeed....Cocky dooty even. Counterfeit watches have less than zilch to do with terrorism and everything to do with commerce and high demand. No turbin , camel or roadside bomb purchases made via the profits from our hobby, more like Mercedes and kung pao duck.

That's what I thought was interesting about it  While I'd be the first to admit that radical Islamic terrorism is a problem, articles like that make me wonder if terrorism hasn't become 'the new communism'...

Don't like how someone looks? Call them a terrorist...

Don't like what someone believes in? Call them a terrorist...

Don't like how another country runs it's affairs? Call them terrorists...

McCarthy would be proud

I was tempted to take a photo of my copy of the Holy Qur'an surrounded by my reps, but that would be disrespectful and borderline blasphemous, and I don't particularly want to get myself smited

Or the new Christian white trash guy. Both hated by oh many people...

@Topic: I stopped subscribing to the NYT, a subscription I had held since the age of 16 as a birthday present, in June 2002. I just couldn't take their "neutral" BS stories any more. After that time, millions have followed suit. Their latest tactic to bring up subscriptions is that they target condos with "freebie" copies of their mammoth Sunday edition, hoping you might get hooked that way. Pass.

Quote from article:

"So it comes down to us. If we stop knowingly buying fakes, the supply chain will dry up and counterfeiters will go out of business. The crime syndicates will have far less money to finance their illicit activities and their terrorist plots. And the children? They can go home."

You know how people stopped sweatshop labour by children in the US? By muckraking journalists like Jakob Riis. He published a series of photographs in the late 1800s in the US, and suddenly, this practise which EVERYONE knew went on, was brought out for the ugly thing it was.

One day, Riis looks up from his desk and sees a distinguished New York alderman, and one of the scions of the great NY society families looking down at him. The man puts down his cane, gloves and hat on Riis' desk and says quietly,

"I'm Theodore Roosevelt. I want to help."

He later wrote a great book on him, this Socialist who became friends with this Republican President. His preface read:

"Of the President I am proud with reason, but the friend I love. And if I can make you see him so, as a friend and a man, I have given you the master-key to him as statesman as well. You will never need to ask any questions."

Concerned citizens of China, not concerned multinationals of the world are the ones who will stop child labour.

Don't pass the buck to counterfeiters, people. Solve your systemic problems first. And get better politicians who take personal responsibility for your malaise.
