Absolutely hillairious that a company catoring to such an anal market would make such a blunder. I can just imagine the scene. Guy on street "Dude, your PAM's got screws in the bracelet, it's gotta be a fake!" Risti wearing older gen "..." However, you see mention of this hot little number: "PAM292 The PAM292 (1000 pieces, $6200) is the highly anticipated 45mm Radiomir Black Seal Ceramic. It has the usual removable wire loop strap attachments in steel w/ PVD coating, and the crown is, I believe, PVD'ed steel (even though the Press Release says it's ceramic). Crown is personalized with the OP logo, and the dial is a black sandwich dial w/ a torpedo (referred to as a "Pig") at 6 o'clock." Someone recently asked at Risti what the hottest models are (speaking of the gen world obviously). Without hesitation they mentioned: 249, 232, and this the 292. Shareholders at their meetings are howling at the losses and something had to be done. Whether these new measures have any effect remains to be seen. It will be more work for the Chinese factories to match the measures should they choose to do so, and that will further raise prices. Then again, CGs aren't exactly the rep mfg's forte, now are they... On to the watchs.... The PAM 193, if well done, could be my first 47mm rep... I quite agree, but things like putting push pins instead of screws in the bracelets, isn't going to make any difference, and in terms of pure product quality, is a step backwards from what people want (as with Omega and the pin/screw debate) so more of an insult towards their genuine customers... Maybe something like holographic stickers on the movements might be a more effective solution... In all honesty, whatever they do, someone will be able to replicate it eventually... swdivad Posted October 14, 2007 Report Share Posted October 14, 2007 I think what they are talking about in regards to pushpins is the strap changing system... They have only removed all those screws from the underside of the bracelet I think. The new strap changing system is similar to the one used by IWC, where you depress a spring loaded pusher and can remove the pin instead of unscrewing it. This first showed up on the PAM 233 and will be implemented on upcoming models. I like it better than screws, as the lug bars don't strip and you dont scratch the case when unscrewing. Watchmeister Posted October 14, 2007 Report Share Posted October 14, 2007 Well I change my straps a lot and in spite of an occasional scratch I have done far more damage to watches with push pins than screws. Now if the strap system came with a very specific tool to make push pin popping a no-brainer it might be fine. On most push pin strap changing systems I have long stopped changing straps and as a result the amount of time they get on my wrist. On the bracelets the reps folks will just rep the rep pins. IWC bracelets are a good example. In any case, this will keep the rep manufacturers busy for a while. Certainly, the in-house movements on the new models have raised the bar.
