Victoria Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 We only just mentioned Delaurian's creations in another thread. This is his latest "Snake" strap. Cost: U$400 I'll tell you this much, whatever can be said of it, that strap took a lot of work. 100% handmade.
madasboot Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 I'll tell you this much, whatever can be said of it, that strap took a lot of work I took a lot of work too and I am not so ugly! M.
Victoria Posted March 5, 2008 Author Report Posted March 5, 2008 I took a lot of work too and I am not so ugly! Thank you, Madasboot. Was just about to pull the trigger on it! EDIT: NOT! @Dluddy: I think you hit the nail on the quick! That's exactly what they look like. Tattoos.
dluddy Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 think he should stick to being a Tattoo artist. His straps remind me of Swatch straps from the 80's - only in leather
V Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Agree.. the straps must be consistent with the history of the brand. Yes nicely made strap and probably a lot of work, but how the heck is consistent with Panerais simplicity concept?

Victoria Posted March 6, 2008 Author Report Posted March 6, 2008 it's like anything else, some good some bad.some of his other straps are awesome. I love my own Delaurian! Again, whatever else one may think of his straps, I think his skill is superb.
TeeJay Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Not something I'd wear, but in terms of artwork, an awesome piece of work Well worth the price tag
doc savage Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Perfect for people who still wear Ed Hardy.
Victoria Posted March 6, 2008 Author Report Posted March 6, 2008 Perfect for people who still wear Ed Hardy. There used to be a "Head" shop in Coconut Grove here, which had a whole section devoted to Ed Hardy's. I used to go in, just to check out the aged hippies in bandanas and have a larf.
old skool Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 It took a lot of work, is well crafted and obviously sold very quickly, so I have a hard time finding any fault with it. That being said, I didn't buy it.
frankt Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 $400. WITHOUT a watch attached...????....C'mon...this belongs over on Paneristi, with all the other "stuff" of that genre...!!! (whacko!!) ;) That's my budget for at least my next 3 reps...total!!!
Victoria Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 $400. WITHOUT a watch attached...????....C'mon...this belongs over on Paneristi, with all the other "stuff" of that genre...!!! (whacko!!) ;) That's my budget for at least my next 3 reps...total!!! A strapmaker was commenting to me the other day, how he is always low-balled by gen Panerai owners, for his straps. He said something like, "They can afford a $5000-$7000 watch but want to haggle about a $200 strap??". I said, it's true, makes no sense, but that also a lot of middle-class people who scrimp and save for a gen PAM, SIMPLY CANNOT afford a $200 strap. I didn't say that sometimes even when you can, spending $200-$400 for a strap is really obscene. I hope my parents never find my bank statement for my Jules Verne...
doc savage Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Custom straps are nice and all, but what difference does it make how much the watch costs? It's still just two little scraps of leather, not like a pair of handmade shoes or something.

In all fairness, this snake strap can hardly be described as two little scraps of leather As I mentioned above, I likely wouldn't wear such a strap, but, I can certainly appreciate it as a piece of artwork/craftsmanship, and the time and effort which went into making it It's the sort of thing a strap collector might buy just so they could have it for their collection, but never wear it, almost like people who collect skatebord decks and display them on the wall, rather than actually riding them

"My 127 gets new shoes!" etc. And I'll bet these'll last you longer too.
