mastergod Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) Hi guys. I Edited April 23, 2008 by mastergod
Ben Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I am by no strech of the imagination an expert, but I do like it! I am also considering getting a Speedmaster.... or do I want the SMP first? I hate choices!
andreww Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) I am no Speedy expert, but from what I know about reps I am pretty sure that those pics are of a genuine. Unless it is quartz? (EDIT) After a little research I am almost certain that the link you posted are actually pics of a reduced genuine speedmaster. Heres the gen... Your pics Edited March 7, 2008 by andreww
marrickvilleboy Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Pics are of a replica. It appears to be just the standard seagull handwind movement found in common moon watch with display back. Just that this one has a closed caseback.

Just that this one has a closed caseback. Speedmaster reduced uses an ETA 2894. To date, there are no secs @ 3 movement (with the exception of the 7750 @ 3 but never used in this watch, but that will run you at least $298) The sea-gull handwind versions have the running seconds @ 9. Plus, the subdials are spaced further apart. This is just a 21J faux chrono. This is the one you want, right?
FxrAndy Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I agree that is faux chrono, notice the subdials dont move but the seconds do, also the speedmaster reduced would not fit that case back AFAIK, also look at the state of that bracelet, if it is a tenner then ok but not worth much more.
owdeguy Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Looking at that pic it looks like a 40mm version of the moonwatch that is inaccurate since its supposed to be 42mm, or if it were a reduced speedy it would 38mm. The marker length at 3 and 9 give away the size usually from what i've seen.
anton Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 If you are anal like me, the engravings on the caseback are ONLY on the Speedmaster 42mm hand-wind versions. There are two kinds of casebacks: displayback and "nasa-qualified". If you want the "speedmaster reduced", it's a plain caseback with the seamonster engraved.
Pugwash Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Pics are of a replica. It appears to be just the standard seagull handwind movement found in common moon watch with display back. Just that this one has a closed caseback. Looks like faux-chrono to me. Avoid.
Stephane Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Guys, I sincerely think that the Nasa case back is only on gens. I had to buy one (genuine) for mine. My old factory Speedmaster came with a display back. And at the price the OP is saying it is, it's for sure a faux chrono. To find an "Old" version, I'm pretty sure only a member could sell you one. Cheers Stephane
mastergod Posted March 9, 2008 Author Report Posted March 9, 2008 Thanks for saving me 100 bucks and a avoiding small disaster guys. Appreciate it. Great forum/members. Mastergod.
