Down time for Repgeek

Posting this here with Admins permission.

I will be bringing Repgeek down tonight at 10pm for some work and to move into a new server. If everything goes smooth the site should be back up by the morning rush. If its not follow the instructions below to either use the IP or change your host file. I will post back when the move is completed and the IP addres link is working.

Thanks for everyone who made this possible via your support and your time.

Alright, so there is going to be some downtime on repgeek soon due to server changes. This process probably won't take too long, but the real killer is DNS propagation, particularly for those internationally.

I know some of you are RG fiends, so if you need a fix, this should help.

DNS propagation to the new server. Basically this is a change of address form, but it takes a while to go through. Luckily, you can tell your computer

to go right to the new location, as you know where it is

Pretty easy, let's go through it (assuming windows, other operating systems are similiar)

1) Wait until repgeek.com stops working (or says locked). Try to go to http://124.217.249.111/ if that shows repgeek, but doesn't allow you to log in, you need to change your hosts file. If it doesn't work, sylar and team is still doing the migration..

2) Open up explorer

3) go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc or C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc or whatever directory windows is installed under

4) right click on the file called 'hosts' and select "Open with..."

5) from that list, select notepad, if its not there, go to browse.. c:\windows\notepad.exe

6) at the bottom of the file, add the following line

124.217.249.111 repgeek.com

124.217.249.111 www.repgeek.com

this will forward traffic from repgeek to the new servers. After a day or so, you can safely remove it.
