BaselWorld 2008

Ok so this is my thread containing the pictures of Baselword 2008.

I went to Zurich with a friend of mine who lives by repairing watches and we both got amazed..

Switzerland is a very beautiful contry. Zurich is a nice city and so is Basel.

I will post more pictures of my trip to switzerland but now I am going to bed. It is 1:05 am.

Sorry for the bad spelling and the blurry pics..I will try to correct it asap..

Hope you like it!

Our arrival at the train station of Basel City.

dsc0635pb9.jpg

From there we took the tram way and went to the baselword buildings.

The city was pretty cool..I only saw the city of basel from the window of the tramway.

what a pity, anyway I took some pics.

dsc0638cq0.jpg

This was our first stop.

This section was mainly for the pros and watch industry operators.

We decided to take a look. the Hall of innovations was ok.

dsc0648gk1.jpg

Sorry I wouldnt resist..a fiat 500 covered with white carpet..

I dont remember what that company manufactured but I think the stand was very original.

dsc0649lo1.jpg

We went downstairs and discover this machine in action.

Actually this is a cnc machine..We were told that only 17 machines like this were in switzerland..so maybe they deliver most

of the machines to Asia...sorry for the blurry pic.

FYI, the machine costs around 400K eur. I think it would be a good idea to buy one for rwg so we can have every watch we

want repped...

dsc0656so1.jpg

And here its the final result, nice uh?

dsc0662gf1.jpg

This is an other machine from the same vendor. You can see the machine

drilling the movement plate with milimetric precision.

Some liquid is shoot at high speed to cool the drill i guess.

dsc0666ub9.jpg

dsc0665ug8.jpg

After that we went to the other building where watch brand exibitors

were performing. The entrance to the building was pretty cool..water falling

you know..

dsc0683ks8.jpg

Inside the entrance hall..I took a fast picture. It seemed to me that taking pictures was forbidden

so I timidly gave a shoot..

dsc0691sz2.jpg

And now into the watches..the first stand that I couldnt resist to see

was the Patek. I took some pics but I didnt want to get noticed until I saw some japanese

armed with their cameras shooting everywere..they even carried a tripod.

After that I took pictures without caring to much.

dsc0711rl9.jpg

The Aquanaut...

dsc0703qd1.jpg

The Nautilus...The new nautilus are really very impressive.

dsc0704bp7.jpg

The new chronos are very cool.

dsc0709xn1.jpg

This one called my atention...I think jfreeman would be delighted with these ones, specially the

all bling one.

dsc0707jm4.jpg

The mbk nautilus can fool any patek owner:

dsc0706jk1.jpg

Patek Philippe...a master of his own.

dsc0714aw2.jpg

And now into the rolex...the rolex stand was very cool..next to the rolex stand was the tudor stand

but we didnt bothered to try to enter..2 girls dressed in cream whites were standing at both sides of a big green door.

Both were dressing the new mens two tone rolex datejust rolesor.

These are the new day-date president...bigger size, about 41 mm.

dsc0718sa2.jpg

These are some funny datejust:

dsc0722fa9.jpg

More rolex...I think I have made too much pictures of rolex watches.

Some exotic datejust:

dsc0824qe9.jpg

At least the daytonas remain untouched..we all have heard that the new daytona will feature a power reserve but we cant

certainly say so...I am sure however that the new daytonas will feature fat crownguards.

dsc0724rd6.jpg

More daytonas, the two-tonas..

dsc0726sw0.jpg

The new fat crown guards submariner...I dont know why they have released this new sub when they have alredy made

changes in the 16610..remember the 16610 with engraved rehaut "rolex rolex rolex" but no fat crownguards and no ceramic

bezel?

Then go grab that sub because it will become a rare transitional submariner.

dsc0719pq6.jpg

The first sub from the right is what we would call a transitional submariner. Go grab it! and never wear it..since it is known that the less worn the watch is the more it will be worth..just kidding.

dsc0727do1.jpg

Very rare blue sub..sorry for the poor quality pics...This remembered me a blue sub rolex did some time ago.

It was mainly destinated for the japanese market.

dsc0720tr3.jpg

Off with the rolex and in with some other brands.

This is for instance a new limited edition hublot.

It has a tourbillon.

dsc0731lu1.jpg

The breitling stand was also very impressive...I dont like breitling but I thought it would deserve a little room in

my camera.

dsc0738ww2.jpg

Who ordered sushi?

dsc0736cb0.jpg

Breitling claims it delivers the best pilots watch..

Actually most pilots wear a cheap casio or a black red gmt master.

dsc0739da7.jpg

This was the stand of Chronoswiss. Very famous for the enamel dials.

Dials are made of silver..This brand is a bit new if compared with classics like omega and rolex

but it rocks..

dsc0742tx4.jpg

dsc0743bh3.jpg

dsc0744is6.jpg

Regulateur a tourbillon squelette. Engraved by hand. Hand-wound movement, 2 barrels, flying cage and 72 hour of power r.

3 ATM.

dsc0745uz1.jpg

The Art of Enameling (for which ChronoSwiss is most famous imo)

dsc0754hn1.jpg

Porche Design.

dsc0759ou2.jpg

I think this watch has been repped right? for you. Again sorry for the blurry pics.

dsc0758bh7.jpg

I was delighted with Maurice Lacroix and its complications.

One day I have to buy one of these.

dsc0760gg8.jpg

dsc0761ap3.jpg

You can buy the rep..but it is different from the real deal. I think it has been released 2 days ago. replica uses a lemania copy movement I think.

The Blancpain stand..Yes it was the fifty fathoms..both versions,

the new and the vintage one. I like the vintage version more than the new.

THe vintage had a steel bracelet taht seemed too fragile however.

dsc0814fj9.jpg

Upside there was more watches to see!

dsc0774em4.jpg

This watch really scared me! It was like an old ship navigating.

or at least that was its moving remembered me...This watch was huge and

it sure helped a man to obtain the perdon of God when the watch got finished.

dsc0767af6.jpg

Yes this is the eta house.

You can actually take course lessons in the eta school.

dsc0773dh8.jpg

A view from the top. This building was a lot big.

dsc0800px8.jpg

dsc0787nd1.jpg

This was a watch I liked a lot..Actually is a eta 7750 skeleton from a mistery unknown watch house.

Price was 7000 eur for the ss version and 16000 eur for the white gold one.

No way I am buying this. I think tourby might have these movements for sale maybe.

This is the stand of tag heuer. There is a race car..everybody is very excited with tag heuer.

dsc0811hf8.jpg

I think this picture is from Chanel..cool. It seems to be a party club!

dsc0790ih7.jpg

Breguet...How wouldnt I havent took any picof the breguet watches? Damn it!

dsc0815fb3.jpg

Chopard...out of my sphere of interest.

dsc0820iz7.jpg

Ulysse Nardin. Beautiful watches...Most of them carry the eta 2892-2

dsc0831bx7.jpg

Some examples:

dsc0826ky2.jpg

That day, after the show we went back to Zurich and admired the city:

dsc0846px2.jpg

It is really a very beautiful city:

dsc0852qd1.jpg

But the swiss is very rare people:

dsc0833wl7.jpg

I spotted the shop atelier of Maurice de Mauriac..It was too there in Baselworld:

Lovely shop. These eta 7750 chronos retail for about 1700 eur..you can see the case is a little oversized.

Maybe it is a bit too expensive considering it has a 7750 inside..You can buy a nomos tangente automatic with movement in house manufacturing for the same price and it will blow your mind..

dsc0886up7.jpg

dsc0887pg1.jpg

dsc0888pi0.jpg

The following pictures are from the main street of zurich...Zurich 5th avenue ;)

What a combo!

dsc0903to0.jpg

Some APs:

dsc0889do1.jpg

Yeah finally some Breguets!

dsc0890lp4.jpg

.....

Guess where the swiss put their money at?

UBS and credit swiss...its a plague over there..haha.

dsc0907dn5.jpg

Thanks for looking, Now it is 1:49 am...I am definetly quitting.. I will edit this post tomorrow and add more things... Best Regards and good night.

Thanks for the pictures. I have one cousin who lives in Basel and several others who live in Zurich, as well as even more relatives in the countryside between the two cities, so I visit every few years. Of course I have to cruise all the wonderful watch retailers in Zurich. This is why I refer to watches as my "Swiss disease"-- every time I visit, I want to buy a new watch!

I have attended many trade shows in the U.S., including Consumer Electronics, Home Builders (50,000+ people!!!), Food Marketing Assn. (more samples than you could ever imagine), major auto shows, as well as many computer-related shows (last week the RSA security conference in San Francisco with 15,000+). But that watch expositions seems very, very different from any that I have ever experienced.
