Bignasty Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 (edited) Alright so I've had a bad day! If you see my other posts you'll know why! On a lighter note though this went well! I bought this 1680 sub from Paul a few weeks ago. After a mix up with shipping I got my rep, a little late but none the less it came! The biggest upset with this rep was the crystal. So I set out to get a replacement. Edge had the gens for a great price but I wasn't sure if a gen would fit since my watch was not a WM or MBW! So me being the cheap guy I sometimes tend to be I leaned towards ebay for a generic copy that still boasted the Tropic height! Well $7 (+ shipping) and a few days later and voila! Its here. So first thing this morning, it was my day off, I wipe the sleep out of my eyes and start dissassembling the watch. Sorry I didn't take pictures this time! Anyway. I removed the movt. Then put the watch on the press. Popped out the old crystal and compared the two!. Much taller and much better looking in my opinion. So I proceeded to reassemble the watch. Put the crystal in. Reinstalled the bezel. Put the movement back in and what you see is what you get! Spring bars to come next! So you win some and you lose some. Today was a bad day for my new panny but a good day for my Rollie! Cheers, JOn Edited June 30, 2006 by Bignasty
miquel Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 Wow, looks great! How does the date mag look compared with the old crystal?
Bignasty Posted June 30, 2006 Author Report Posted June 30, 2006 Wow, looks great! How does the date mag look compared with the old crystal? Thanks, I think its a big improvement. Date mag is my only complaint. I'm sure the gen magnification would be much better. But I wasn't sure if either would even fit. I figured a $7 loss is better than a $40 loss! Now I know for future reference! Jon
www_watch Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 So this means that MBW vintages are not the only ones that can be fitted with genuine parts?
stac Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 Hi Bignasty, HUGE post! Who was the seller on ebay? Did you replace the bezel...it looks good! Wear it well!
wireless Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 Why not get an gen dial like this: RARE Rolex ref.1680 Red Submariner Dial http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...em=130001901958
Bignasty Posted July 1, 2006 Author Report Posted July 1, 2006 Why not get an gen dial like this: RARE Rolex ref.1680 Red Submariner Dial http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...em=130001901958 Don't beleive that dial is genuine. The red lettering is better but the "L" isn't centered under the crown! Read here: http://doubleredseadweller.com/ Jon silver datewheel? YES! Hi Bignasty, HUGE post! Who was the seller on ebay? Did you replace the bezel...it looks good! Wear it well! Thanks! jewelryoutlet2005 was the seller on Ebay! Jon So this means that MBW vintages are not the only ones that can be fitted with genuine parts? Don't know about genuine this part is "generic" cheapo but looks much much better than the rep crystal! Jon
