What are you driving?

a spin off from the greg got his car smashed with a tree thread.

We all bought our vehicles for different reasons - some are expensive - some real cheap - some bought for luxury while others for performance - post pics of your car and tell us the story on how/why you got it

I'll start with mine - being in Real Estate, it's somewhat mandatory that you drive a respectable car to carry clients in but I'm no rich guy so after doing a lot of research, It finally decided on this car - a 1999 Mercedes S420 - this car comes in various engines including a S320 (3.2l 6cyl) and two 8 cyl - S420 (4.2l) and S500(5l) and also a 12cyl S600 - all the same body and aside from the engine, there is a huge list of different options - the S600 comes fully loaded with all kinds of electronic gizmos.

My S420 was a choice in the middle - I didn't want the 6 cyl because this is a heavy car and I felt the 6 cylinder would be underpowered, have too much stress on it and not last as long so I opted for an 8cyl but didn't need well over 300hp that the S500 has so the 275hp S420 would be ample power and save a bit of gas - I put 50,000km+ year so it adds up

Color - well Black is the most beautiful - hardest to care for but once clean and shined, it's the best looking in my opinion - like a mirror

I paid $17,500CDN +taxes, etc - came to about $21k (2 years ago) - a great deal considering this car new costs well over $100,000 - it drives like a dream - I instantly fell in love with it - plenty of power and handles great - super comfortable and clients feel like they are the president when they sit in the rear - black leather and burl walnut trim and plenty of leg room to stretch out and a large arm rest sits in the middle to sign house offers on. Over the past 2 years, I've changed a upper control arm, ball joint, 2 ignition coils (there is one per cylinder), spark plugs... uh... and light bulbs - that's it - it's been a tank and I'm very happy with the choice.

This is the last year they made this body - many benz lovers swear by this style as the year 2000 brought a newer style that lost the Mercedes character - this is the vehicle leaders of countries ride around in - well use to anyhow :) but in 3rd world countries, they still do - so I drive a 3rd world country presidential vehicle B)

This one because it is the ultimate runabout for around town. I decked it with all the Cooper Works stuff and I can get 60 in five and a half now. The torque steer is the only thing that sucks and the twin turbos really accentuate it, but the fun factor is so high that you hardly notice. Turns more heads that any other car I have had or still have for a fraction of what I paid for all of those. Go figure...

This one because I like to go really, really, really fast sometimes. Pulls like a psychotic rhino after a night of meth smoking. 2nd gear is a Mutha. This one is an 996. Can you tell I like black cars with cross spokes? LOL. I'm thinking I should get an 09' 997 as it is the last year for a while for the 997 Turbo as the redesign is next after a brief wait. But then I hear orders are not getting estimates for delivery until June. I'm happy now but thinking of doing it despite it all as I have never had a chance to get exactly what I want in a sports car as I always get them used. Maybe I'll pull the trigger - we shall see, but with the Mini love I hardly think to drive the 996, and maybe I should wait and see what the redesign is like instead. But in any case, I'll always have a soft spot for Turbo's till the day I die...

What turbo kit did you have fitted to your Mini?I quite fancy ditching the supercharger from the cooper s works kit and fitting turbos.Knocks a second from the 0-60 time too, seems a good improvememt over the works S 6.5 to 60 time.

Nice Porker by the way.

The new Mini's all have turbos instead of superchargers now. They have a full factory kit now but when I did mine in November last year I had to go all custom and had the spoolers all reworked, exhaust, etc. I have a freind with a bottle in his and now I want one - as long as I'm driving straight. I can't imagine bottle boost and steering at the same time. The car is fun to drive though not as go-cart-ish as the first generation BMW Mini's with the superchargers. But they don't sound like a sewing machine anymore which may be good. I always liked the whine of chargers myself, but I know many don't.

So the build was done on the Mk2 mini, the one i have is a mk1 so major money to convert with this kit.

I have tried the smaller pulleys but they seems to put the car under a lot of stress when giving it some, not a nice feeling.

I have seena BBr turbo kit but it runs at about

Used to drive F355, sold, too expensive beotch... But it was a fun, that I'll remember to the rest of my life... or til I'll buy F430.

Now - Infiniti G35. Decent car, especially with big Garrett turbo, good drifter, not too big, I'm OK with it. And still working on my project- Nissan 240SX LE (nickname "Fury") with Corvette engine, twin turbo, handmade body kit, yellow/black suede interior (will be done soon.

Expect to get 600 hp, with 620lb torque. At least my technician promised it.

(snip)

A truly grand piece of machinery, mate - I can see why you bought it.

I'm not going to post my current car to this thread as the tree kinda spoilt the lines.... lol. I'm taking the AMG for a last spin today, but I'll be back to driving a crappy courtesy car tomorrow (a horrendous piece of garbage made by Renault ... or Peugeot.... one of those, I forget...).

Hi there the nissan should be a good un.

The S13 is a well respected drift car over here, people are getting insane amounts of power from them.

I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S with a retrofitted John Cooper Works kit and a RMS intercooler. Does around 225 bhp and is a lot of fun with good mileage - which is a lot worth in Europe with a gas price per gallon of 7,67 USD this year.

As I am living in motorcycle country (black forrest, Germany) my other toys are mainly motorcycles (Aprilia Tuono and Yamaha TZR, being a two stroke junky), but I am planing on buying a Lotus Elise next spring. I am looking for a rover powered MK1 in good condition and without any modifications as I am planing to drop a 2.3 litre Ford duratec engine in it (ca. 200 bhp). Should be great fun in a car on the lower side of 1600 lbs :)

I used to have Porsches starting with a '90 944 S2 (best ever) over a '73 911 Targa (rebuilt myself!) to a '00 911 GT3 (996), but stopped having an own Porsche as I am working for a company producing and developing parts for porsches (more than one can be seen in RobbieGs picture) and therefore have enough hot Porsches to drive during work. Actually Porsches became boring for me working with them every day and knowing what the next gen 911 will be like and what problems I have at work with it (actually I've allready seen what the Porsche maniacs will get to buy from 2011 on ;) ) they became just work - nothing I want to have at home.

S13 is fantastic car. It's very light, and one of the best for drifting. I installed 10" wide front wheels, 12" wide rear wheels, carbon fiber hood, and all body kit is fiberglass, so, now the weight is 2400lb. With Corvette engine and twin turbo it will be a real beast.

I make all designs for body kits by myself, and I have a friend, who work with fiberglass, so, he made all my body kits.

I guess we have a lot in common Keith. I love AM's as well. If I didn't have the Porsche Turbo for my fun car, that is what I would have instead - probably a Vantage...

My daily driver is a Cooper S convertable...

post-15331-1224438978_thumb.jpg

And my weekend fun car is an Aston Martin AMV8

Needless to say, I wish every day was a weekend...

Believe it or not, I could buy any one (maybe even all) the vehicles pictured so far, but being the weirdo I am, I drive an AX. One guy to another, if you want to pick up chicks, this is NOT the car to do it in. On the other hand, if a woman will be seen with you in this car, you know she must REALLY love you...

Doesn't it, though?! -I've always had the devil of a time uploading/updating avatars, and I'd always fancied getting one of my animated ones up (if you'll forgive my unfortunate choice of words)...
