But as I am no specialist I was wondering if the one that pam111 sells can be considarate a good one. It seems that it is the same as ptswiss. And he claims to have an eta movement in it . ANybody ever order this watch and could tell me about it ? At first glance I don't see any mahor flaw. Its a good starting point and can be worked on in the future to make a really good piece. By the way that bracelet is as wrong as wrong can be. Good hunting. alligoat Posted October 27, 2008 Report Share Posted October 27, 2008 The DRSD from Paul was one of my first reps- actually the second one, but the first after I found the old RWG1 three years ago. This watch actually has a working HE valve which is a pretty damn good copy of the original Rolex HEV. It came w/ an ETA movement back then- might be a copy ETA these days, the dial markers are a little too yellow for my taste, but the bracelet is a nice hollow mid-link 93150 with 580 rep end pieces. The clasp is that unusual variation, but I swapped out another standard flip-lock clasp. This watch is slightly smaller than the MBW 1665 so it won't take a gen bezel insert or crystal, but I put in a vintage acrylic pearl, so the bezel insert looks pretty good. I trimmed the cg's, drilled the lugholes, but I don't wear the watch anymore because DRSD's are so rare. I paid $139 for this watch back in 2005! Now days the ETA movement with the silver datewheel overlay is probably worth what I paid for the whole watch Paul also has this watch in the GWSD- "Great White Sea-Dweller". The great white would be a little more subtle, should you run into a WIS. I would consider these good entry level watches- fun to play with and mod- great beaters at a fair price. I stole the 93150 bracelet off this watch and put it on my 16800 franken with a set of 593 end pieces- it's so hard to find nice hollow mid-link rep bands! I have 1 on my bench that I got a couple of years ago from either Josh or Andrew I used the Hev pin & gasket from that watch's case for my DRSD (you can Search out the tutorial on how to drill out the Hev hole in the side of an MBW case). I happen to love that bracelet, but, to the best of my knowledge, the clasp is a fantasy design as Rolex never made 1 like that. The watch does have a nice silvered ETA datewheel, but, unfortunately, the font is not quite exact. And anyone who would know or appreciate the datewheel's silver color would also ID the san serif font as being wrong. The other reason I bought the watch was for the dial, which is pretty close to NDTrading's Doublered, but also suffers from its same primary problem - narrow index markers at 6 & 9. But if you can find someone to widen those markers & relume all of the markers, I think it would best the standard MBW Doublered dial. Mine came with a gen ETA 2836-2. Must admit I thought the photo was one of those cheapo 1665's that was adapted from a Sub case. It's a 38mm case, CN dome acrylic crystal- slightly different than a T-19 or 39- I tried to switch crystals. But still a fun rep to play with and w/ an ETA, a very reliable watch. Perhaps, I am unique, but very few civilians ever actually see my watches, because they generally remain hidden below my shirtcuff (other than t-shirts, I never wear short sleeves). Of course, it only takes a split-second glimpse of some of the more iconic or popular models to elicit a reaction from the average watch enthusiast. But, by far, RWG people see ALOT more of my watches than anyone on the street ever will. So I sometimes wonder if we might tend to over-neurose the accuracy of our watches without any real cause. I could not tell the difference from the gen. I was very happy. I wore the watch for years it was fine, it had a swiss eta movement and never went wrong looked great and was even waterproof. Then I discovered this forum. Oh dear. After doing alot of reading I found out that my beloved 1665 was not as accurate a rep as I thought and it began to bug me. I discovered the existence of a more accurate version of the 1665 called an MBW. I wanted one. I then also learned that it would take genuine parts if ever I should want to have the watch improved upon. I wanted one. I then found out that they were tricky to get hold of, only certain dealers could access them etc. I wanted one. Eventually I made contact with a person who could supply one and I bought it. I was very happy. I had it modified (few new parts etc) and it is now my daily beater. The old 1665 never goes on my wrist, eventually it got water in it (I took it on holiday) and it is now dead (ish) I am keeping it for old times sake. Was it a good watch? Definitely. Do I regret buying it? No. Should I have got an MBW in the first place? For me, yes and that is why I suggest you do the same but hey, that's just my opinion. Maybe the things that bugged me will not bug you. If that's the case then get the one you have pictured. It will not let you down. My modded MBW 1665: Reshaped crown guards Gen crown and tube Clarks T39 Re-finised dial Better rep insert Ofrei pearl Slow beat eta Rep hands (can't remember where from) Ubi datewheel (flat top 3's) Vintagised caseback Hope this helps. Get the one you have pictured, like I said, I was very happy with mine, it was tough as nails and of course to most people it was a completely convincing rep - even when compared to gen pictures. The bracelet is a solid mid link w/ the wrong #'s- 70216 and 455B ends are totally wrong. Movement is probably an eta copy- can't believe you'd get a real eta for $169. A T-39 probably won't fit. Yes, $169 for an ETA would be a early christmas present and I don't really believe in Santa especially with the chinese market So apart from the MBW no other case would fit a superdomed glass ?
