belray Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Hi everyone. Everytime I sweat whilst wearing my SD, it leaves black marks on my clothes and wrist. I am guessing that the black fill is leaking from within the case back engraving. To that end, does anyone know how to seal the ink in the engraving or of a way to fill the engraving with a leakproof material? Thanks.
alligoat Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I doubt it really has anything to do with the painted infill on the caseback. I have the same problem when I get hot and sweaty- here in Houston, that's all summer long. The black is the oxidation of the stainless steel on your skin. I don't wear a Sea-Dweller, but all my subs do the same thing. Soap and water will work. As for getting it on your clothes, I would think it would come out in the wash with a little pre-soak like Spray and Wash or Oxy-Clean. I wear short sleeves 9 months out of the year myself. I'm off to the gym to sweat it out.
highoeyazmuhudee Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 never had this problem, IF ANYTHING , I leave sweaty marks on the watch
dieselpower Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Put it on a NATO strap? That's how I wear my 1665 SD.
freddy333 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I have never seen stainless steel leave oxidation marks on skin. Some other metals, yes, but not ss.

Nanuq Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Isn't stainless steel spozed to be... stainless? Get some scrubby pads and strong soap and scrub the heck out of it. I mean REALLY hard. I bet it's just dirty. Or it's aluminum? Bizarre. The right answer is, of course, to buy Delta's COMEX.
