cenerhimself
I'm a complete noob in the area of watches, but I've been reading a lot about Omegas. I really want my first rep to be a 007 Style Seamaster or the Seamaster worn in Casino Royale. I've read about automatics and somewhat know how they function, but I don't think they will work for me. I don't want to have to worry about resetting the watch if I only wear it for 8-9 hours a day. So, are there any Quartz (battery?) Omega reps? Am I right to think that Automatics will need to be reset if worn for that amount of time, weekdays only and maybe a few hours on the weekend? I'm a college kid, so I don't dress up to go to class, but I'll be graduating soon and getting a real job. The only time I can see myself wearing the watch is to work 9-5 or go out on the weekend nights. Thanks!
chrgod
Strangely enough, I have only seen replicas of the automatic Seamasters. Even though a decent replica of the quartz-Seamaster likely would sell well and be rather trouble free, I think the manufactures concentrate on the more expensive models. It is the same thing with the Quartz Breitling Colts. I have never seen a decent replica of those..

triplehd
Havent seen any quartz for any of the non-chrono Omegas - only the Chronos have I seen come in quartz. Atleast with the quartz - you have the correct space dialing for the 3,6,9 layout.

Do you think it is necessary to get a quartz powered watch if I will only be wearing it for 8-9 hours/day. Thanks!

Particularly bad is the that quartz has the subdial@6 counting the seconds. Just wrong.

I'm gonna have to go with Automatic eventhough I think I'll be resetting it every time I wear it.
TeeJay
Interesting, thanks. Anyone else seen any rep Omegas with Quartz? I saw this one on a market in Spain, so quartz Omegas are definitely made... Wether any of the dealers would be able to source one, would be a different matter... Do you think it is necessary to get a quartz powered watch if I will only be wearing it for 8-9 hours/day. Thanks! At the end of the day, that's something only you can answer... To be honest, it only takes a few moments to re-start and re-set an automatic watch which has 'run dry', but, that's still a few moments more than it takes to strap on a quartz watch which is going to be telling the right time regardless... The Seamaster is an incredibly versatile watch, so you might find yourself wearing it more than you anticipate anyway. A few 'dings' to the case will only add character, rather than detracting from the watch Best of luck with your search, and welcome to the forum

I guess we'll see. If I find a nice Quartz, I'd def. go with that but if not, I guess its not so annoying. Thanks for the pic too. I'm gonna check out Chinatown NYC to get a better view of selection. No problem, I'm more than happy to help To be honest, Chinatown is more likely to have what you're looking for, as they're more likely to cater to 'every-day' buyers, who are happy with quartz watches. I have to admit, the quartz Seamaster is going to be more durable, and keep better time than the automatic Seamaster, so it'll definitely be combining the best of both worlds, with the looks of an automatic, with the robustness of quartz. Even if you don't find the Seamaster there, you're still likely to see some nice watches which take your eye I picked up a Panerai in Spain which is a total fantasy model. Pretty junk case and whatnot, but, I think it has potential to be a good project watch At the end of the day, as long as you're happy with the watch, and it does what you want it to do, that's all that matters Best of luck with your search
cenerhimself
Thanks fxr and teejay, I'm sure there will be tons of watches that catch me eye. I just bought my first rep from a member on here, an Auto Omega SMP Chrono. Start of an addicting hobby!!!
