My 1680 has landed

This watch has a lot history on this forum

It came with a lot of troubles and flaws but IMHO they are solved superbly by the guy who modded the watch.

The lume on this one was a special request of mine because i was inspired by the luminova serviced dials by Rolex

I didn't had the time to make many shots but here is the start.

The famous 1680 engraving

And a lume shot ( again the modder told me it was way off , and i agree , but the dial was so poor that i thought let's give it a completally wrong dial )

I will shoot some more pictures in the weekend

So shoot

Very nice. I especially like the lume job- IMO, that is the only way to go on a rep like this- it just makes it so nice to be able to read the time in the dark. And besides, we're not going to fool the true Rolex aficianados, which you'll probably never run into anyway.

Good looking bezel insert, crown and tube, crystal and the serifs on the 5 in the date window look good- same as on my WM 1680 which I'm wearing today.

The watch turned out very well, I know it's been tough for you, but the final results are great. Congratulations.

Cats - I hate to be the sole black cloud, especially considering all of the time & effort you have put into this (which is obvious since the case looks tremendous). But that dial does not match the case. It is too large (the minute & Swiss markings at 6 are almost completely hidden beneath the rehaut) & the fonts & crown are just wrong.

I think you need another dial that is more up to the level of the case. A stock MBW would be an improvement & an NDTrading would be a big improvement. And, while I love the daylight color of the lume, I think the bright glow in the dark just exaggerates the problems with the dial. I do not mean to hurt your feelings, but I am just being honest.

Thank you guys for the response.

@ alligoat i'm still happy that i decided to go for gen parts for the insert tube and crown.

@ Rosnik It's a so called new MBW case with a lot of problems but they arer solved by the modder

@ Freddy your comments are always spot on so i don't feel hurt.

Yes i already posted a WTB in the WTB section for a better 1680 RED dial.

Still funny that a stock MBW dial is an improvement for this "new" MBW :D

I love it. Especially the 'profile view'. A very tough watch!

Are white 1680 rep dials readily available? I have a TWB 1680 with probably as many concerns as your original piece. I have never had a watch modded. But I'm not into collecting anymore reps so maybe 'modding' would be fun...........thoughts? Anyone? Bueller?

@ Rosnik , a fully agree with your comment on the crown guards ( and it's also valid for all the other mods )

Again IMO he's one of the greatest modders on this forum ( the SL lume was a request from my side and i had to force him to do it because it doesn't belong on a vintage Rolex )

Who's the first to guess who did all these great modd's to my 1680 ??

Thanks Kelster,

The mods that are done are:

crownguards

lugholes

shaving of the lugs/ toal case to make it more look like the gen

rehaut polished

polsihing the sides of the bracelet

lume job of the hands and dial

gen crown

gen tube

gen springbars

gen insert

I still have to change the dial and the movement ( which is a cheap copy of the ETA ).

But for he moment i like the lume job a lot.

Any idears on who did the modding jobs on this beauty

A very nice job on this Cats!

As Freddy mentionned, the lume and dial aren't accurate and I would definittly go for another dial.

But I'm happy for you that you have something nice in the meantime....

I'm sure your modder could make something like this, without lume ;)
