  1. http://www.trustytim...roducts_id=3425 This is clearly not the case. http://www.artisanplating.com/articles/platingthick.html 5 mil x 25.4 microns / 1 mil = 127 microns The "thickest" gold plating standards set by the federal trade commission is called "heavy gold plate" which is 2.5 microns thick. If trusty's watches are 127 microns thick of x carats of gold, then they're 51 times thicker than the thickest gold plating standards set by the FTC... At a very minimum, I think the trusted dealers should get their units of measurement right. Or they could just say "Hey, we don't actually know how thick it is, but we're told its thick!"

  2. Right this is a blue peter moment (Please ecuse the crappy iphone pics) Thanks to Rolojack i can show you all how to make a vintage silver flat 3 open 6&9 DWO I took a screen shot of his image in the DWO thread converted it to black and white in word and resized it. This needs nothing more than A decent inkjet printer Some self adhesive clear lables your old metal DWOs a bit of scotch bright a sharp craft knife (please get help from grown ups when cutting) Nail varnish remover or isopopenol alcohol A sunday morning with out the shakes Right First get all your old DWOs that are made of metal and a couple of date wheels for 2836/46 and chuck them in alcohol or nail varnish remover and remove all the old printing (this will save microns of clearance space) Once it is all clean take your scotch brite and brush the overlay blank you should end up with some thing like this Now we cut out one of our preprinted clear adhesive over lays and stick it as central as you can to the blank The get an adult to cut away the excess and you will be let with what we want a brushed silver flat 3, open 6&9 overlay now you may have dont it already but remove all the printing and ink from the date wheel And fit it to your movement Next we need some thing to attach the DWO to the DW, i like using clear nail varnish as it sets slowly and can be revoved easily, Dial dots are also good but think about clearance if you go this route Tiny dabs are all you need, Now add the DWO over the top lining the center of one number with the stem Fit you dial and check the positioning of all numbers over (wind the watch forwards and get the date to change as you got through 12am rather t6han jjust click forward in the date set position) there will be slight variation Adjust if nesesary and try again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again untill you are happy two slightly better pictures As we can see here the 20s need to move over to the right a touch, not sure if roloJack could do that??? as the rest are good The printing is better than the pictures actualy show and as good as my MBW DWO in my great white but not as perfect as my gen (The one above was a lower print quality than the one under the rail dial) I think we are moving in the right direction I think if i vectorised the image it would be better, can some one here do that? Many thanks to Rolojack for creating the image in the first place (let me know if you want a few of these) Do not all PM me asking me to make you one as i only have 3 blanks. Platinum members for a small donation to the postage can have the stickers for free, but it would be better if it was vectorised and prfesionaly printed. Thank you for reading and now your thoughts please as to the positioning, font size, and boldness

  10. youd think that. funny thing is a GEN 5513 bezel insert doesnt even fit over their too large Tropic 19. it also bent / destroyed my retaining ring when trying to fit it, because i did not realise it was larger until it was too late. also bought their bezel assembly for a 16610 it was also too large, the crystal took in humidity. i returned it. so unless you want to support your local post office, id avoid WSO

  12. Good discussion. Something else just came to mind. (As stated, I am not a fan of 'current' Rolex corp. However, I am going to take their side, and play a bit of devils advocate.) First, a personal experience, and perhaps some wisdom that only comes as one gets older and priorities change. Back in the 90's, I was a pretty serious SCCA Auto Racer. I progressed from Stock Classes and Improved Touring to Open Wheel Formula's, with a smattering of exotics thrown in (Lotus, Porsche, Viper). Back then, I could not for the life me wrap my head around the fact that the Auto Makers were making progressively heavier vehicles, with disappearing (non)-options. As a racer, I wanted the essence of a vehicle-- No extra doors, no Air Condition, no Power Windows, Cloth (lighter) instead of Leather (heavier) seats, etc... Fast forward. Now those weight adding creature comforts make total sense to me, and the auto makers were simply responding to the market. We were the minority. Enter technology as well. The few extra grams of the power window assembly was more than compensated for my better engine management and horsepower. Finally, when purchasing a vehicle, do I really want to go down a list of options and seeing the $$ added to the sticker -vs- the all-inclusive price these days for a solid feature set. No. So where am I going with this. Somewhere within the hallowed halls @ Rolex, they know that guys on Oil Rigs are NOT using their dive watches. There are no more Cold War scientists in need of a Milgauss. How many spelunkers actually use an Explorer II instead of a Garmin/Suntuu wrist computer. That said, modern Rolex's are essentially on par with our comfy BMW's, Mercedes, etc, and the average/current (White Collar) consumer of their products. Rolex knows their market, and it is not (most) of us. I am cool with that... Final thought. The "I'm not in the watch industry comment", real or not, is really just a way of saying "Rolex is a Luxury Good's" maker.

  13. i have a RED dial i received from my dial printer that i was test driving in my prototype 1680 case. my dials are made with feet for ETA, so you do NOT have to clip the feet, "singer" engraved plate. dial is brand new factory direct. i figure i should start recouping some costs to move my case projects forward faster let me know if its your taste in red. Ignore the date wheel print, its a faux date wheel to check the cyrstal mag size

  16. Anyone ever get this? I have a watch incoming to the USA from UAE via EMS. tracking says it's retained by customs for reason number 99. According to google that means waiting for declared value from sender? The packing slip contains no value. I have seen a scan of it. Any suggestions?

  17. Ok, please give me a little more info on the following: - slowbeat movement. You talking ETA movement? Which movt? Where is a good place to buy one? - clarks T39. That is the crystal. Is it a gen or a quality aftermarket? - flat top datewheel. i get it's a date wheel but tell me more. You got me thinking of going the vintage route.
