  1. If you ever need the tone lowered then I am your man !! I think from my own experience with GTHARN (when he posted his first issue with Lunarglide)... and going by his replies on that to me and the fact he would appear to be a Brit that he had a preconception of dealing and colecting in this hobby and his expectations werent either capable or willing to adjust to this very unique area of the hobby... In not being able or willing to make that adjustment he reacted in what we and others would consider an inappropraite way... This place needs some time to get use to... the game itself is difficult enough but when you throw in the diversity of this forum and the way we are all use to dealing with people here and how that varies in our own real worlds then what has happened here is an easy trap to fall into...even if you might be a nice guy.. This is a lesson to any guy new on here to read the guides, to get use to the place and the people and get use to how we interact with each other... as a community this is a great place to be and is shared with some fantastic blokes...and its a priviledge to be here and have the support this forum gives to us all as enthusiasts and collectors.. And as a priviledge these sort of guys should be aware that if they dont or wont make that adjustment then they arent welcome... Just my pennies worth

  2. As an Aussie I tried to stay out of the whole US Presidential thing especially since so many American friends are Republican but that said another American friend (Dem) was swamping my FB page with so much Dem propaganda that my interest was piqued. So from very early days I was following everything I could get my hands on and yes I will admit to being a big Obama fan but with every thing I read I deliberately ran down both the Dem and the Rep arguments. My first very early observation was the incredible amount of disrespect shown to the man who held America's highest office, people like Rush Limbaug and Donald Trump should be scorned by voters from both parties. But by far the more relevant observation was that nearly every thing thrown at the incumbent by the opposition was simply false, and that includes the claim that Obama was in anyway negligent or responsible for America's debt. I'll be fair and say it is possible there are facts and figures I am not aware of but if so the Rep's didn't use them either. In Australia Romney would have been tarred and feathered not just for the lies and mistruths but the sheer volume of them. Ken

  4. You guys are all pessimists. Not a fan of Obama but IMHO he couldn't kill the economy if he wanted to. Take five minutes. Study the Great Depression, how bad it got, actions taken, amount of time to really recover and timing and you are looking at a mini-version here. Of course it doesn't feel like it to all those who are suffering but I truly don't believe you could kill the economy, irrespective of who is President. With a split house and no supermajority in the Senate no one is getting anything done other than emergency type measures and that is IMHO all it takes. Not looking for a debate. Simply my 2 cents. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I am happy to wager a reasonable amount with folks that we are in better shape economically four years from now then today - no thanks to Obama (or Romney if he had won). And one last note, if the Republican party doesn't start ignoring the far right I don't think you will see a Republican President for decades. Both sides are idiots but the idiot portion of the Democrats is growing far faster than that portion with the Republicans.

  5. Wow.....a nice surprise on a Friday morning. First off, let me apologize to you, I didn't mean to insult you personally with what I said about your pictures, but common Man, if you wanna sell something here, please try to show your goods as clearly as possible and I'm just not speaking for just for myself but for the whole community, at least from my point of view. I thought I should take it upon myself to point it out to you and to the rest of the folks who wants to sell here. That's how it works in the real world. How could someone peruse a thing to buy when you could hardly see the details of what is being sold? When I sell something here, I take some time to take the shots clearly and enhance it if I could so that buyers could see what they're shopping for. Put yourself in my place and I think you would understand. Again I apologize and hope that you also understand where I'm coming from. Oh, just in case you missed this in the Rules Under Watches for Sale, it states: Rule of Thumb: honest sellers post good, clear pics to reveal details; dishonest sellers post dark, blurry or distant pics to hide them. Please beware of sellers who fall into the latter category. One of the reasons why I pointed out the quality of the pictures, I don't want anyone to think that you're dishonest, because although I don't know you, I think you are a good honest member! Hike. Pete, thanks for standing up for me, I know most of the oldies here know where I'm coming from and just because I'm not posting much doesn't mean I'm not around everyday lurking in the neighborhood., PEACE!

  10. Ditto Nanuq's comments. I bought a gen 'dome for my beater, but decided to go with Clark's since it looks nearly identical & provides a peace of mind that a 25+ year old piece of Plexiglas cannot.

  11. Regardless of your political persuasion, sadly, that is what happens when you leave your back door open (either to gain votes or to get cheap labor) & rely on the government to guard the doorway. I believe it was this understanding that the government is not a reliable protector of life or liberty that led the authors of the US Constitution to incorporate the citizens' right to keep & bear arms. I also believe, with this election, that the proverbial horse has now left the barn as far as the country goes. If everyone read - with an open mind - Barack Hussein Obama's 2 books, I think many opinions about our president would change.

  12. You're exactly right. Problem is, if it floods, some parts are hard to get, others are impossible to get. My 1665 has been to 2,000' in chambers many times, and has spent weeks decompressing. It got its seals replaced and greased every year like clockwork. Then it failed at 80 feet. The watchmaker rescued it and saved all the original parts, but that was a 1/1000 chance. Those odds are too high for me now. Now the MBW 1665 does the swimming and the gen stays dry. And I hate that it's like that.

  13. We are headed for gridlock and probable economic collapse. Still stunned the majority of voters did this. Different country than I grew up in. Brave new world.

  14. I have got a used gen T39 and am in two minds weather to put it on my 1665 which currently sports a Clarks rep. The watch has been tested to 3 atm pressure and I go swimming with it confidently so I think i will stick with the Clarks. Seems wrong to wear a divers watch that has such great pedigree but can't even be able to take a quick dip in the pool!

  15. The market will decline/crash and stagflation will set in, yes. Probably in or before 2014. However, no president elected today could have prevented it.

  16. That's pretty much what happened to my 1665 superdome. I'm sure I hit it on some solid objects a few times which probably accelerated the problem. It passed a pressure test a little over a year ago, but a few months back, I hit it full force with a water hose that slipped in my hand, a few minutes later, fog under the crystal. I sent it to a watchsmith, who discoverd that the crystal had several hairline cracks, but one big one that extended up the side into the curve. He replaced it with a Clark and it's been fine since, pressure tested to 6 atm (the most my machine will go). I agree that probably the clarity of the crystal might not be quite as good as the genuine, but as Ronin stated, wear will reduce the clarity and in a few weeks, they are about the same.If it looks the same, my most important criteria is water resistance.
