  1. Has anyone had luck getting a quality rep Sinn U1? I haven't seen too much info on them and even less on what TD to go with.

  2. I don't know much about watches and I know even less about Pams but I fell in love with this one for it's simplicity and elegance and its stunning movement. I hate the feeling of not having done any research. Did I make the right move here? The seller was a very great chap with a very large collection of pams and included two strap sets with the sale (I like the brown one on the watch although he says it's not great quality) I'm not too fussed if there are 'tells' because they are not too common but I'm wondering why it hung about for so long and was reduced so much? He wouldn't ship to CONUS after a failed delivery so perhaps this was the reason? Any thoughts gents?

  3. Mickey disassembled my ZF Pam 389 today to see why it'd stopped running, and found:- They are small "poo" shaped bits of rubber that are inserted around the movement holder. Supposedly to act as shock absorbers. Unfortunately the ZFac didn't bother cleaning them up, so they were covered with silicone lube and hence slipped around (assisted by the completely loose dial). One worked it's way around to the stem and was then chewed up, leaving lots of little bits of rubber all over the inside of the watch, stopping it. A lot of TLC later and everythings been cleaned up, reassembled, regulated and water proofed. All for €75. Baaaargain! And the rat droppings have been cleaned up so they will do what they were designed to do and stay where they have been put! (supposedly gen ones use the same system - I bet not quite the same!)

  4. Congrats! Give us an update with pictures when it arrives, and how long it took. I just recently bought TC's V6 SUB. Awaiting it. Hopefully it arrives around his turnaround time. Thomas informed me the dial & parts were in stock, and he secured me in.

  9. Quite honestly, gen or rep, once you have owned it for awhile, the novelty wears off. That's just the way it is with material things am I right? You can finally acquire the watch you always wanted, the car you always wanted, the house you always wanted, even the woman you always wanted, and after a few months/years, you want something else. With watches, I know a very wealthy man who owns hundreds of gens, and he is always on the prowl for more. That taught me a valuable lesson, that no matter what kind of watch I get, I will always want something else. So why waste crazy money on gens, when you can spend a fraction of the price on reps, and not feel so bad when you get tired of them! Finally, if you lose a gen, or damage it, you will feel HORRIBLE. If the same thing happens to a rep, not that big a deal, just order another from Trusty, Toro, etc. . .

  10. Since you will be buying with CA$H...I can tell you where to find some of the lowest prices on genuine watches. Believe it or not... Gun shows and hot rod car shows. Why? Because gun and car guys often take high $$ watches in on trades or buy them from gun and car nuts needing $$ (mostly rolex). They do not have much in them and do not care about them. NAWCC etc watch and jewelry shows on the last day. Many of these guys are stuck with the watches and will sometimes blow them out for CA$H just before they go back home. Pawn shops at the end of the month. Keep a check on what they have on display and if a watch has been out for over 60 days, they might cut a deal on it close to the end of the month because this is when they 'tally up' their sales. Just for fun, see if you can figure out their price code. Many still use the old HONESTBUCK price code with letters for numbers. Always remember...a deal is where you find it. Put a small ad in the local paper 'Buying rolex watches', use a burner phone for communication and meet sellers at your bank and offer about one third to one half regular retail price. Many people trying to sell high $$ watches end up selling them to a pawn shop and losing their azz but they will act like they do not need the money when you talk to them because they do not want you to know they are desperate. Act like you are low on $$ too but still want a watch and might have just enough in the bank to buy their watch. Draw the $$ out of your account and pay for the watch in the bank to discourage robbery. You have to know what is what because three fourths of the watches will be fake. Watch Buyer Rule #1...Nobody needs an expensive watch...especially the guy trying to sell the watch. ...and the guy buying the watch. WBR #2...Never buy an expensive watch unless it feels like you stole it. Big $$ losers: Dope Cars Boats Horses Houses Jewelry Watches Whiskey Gamblin' Wild Wimmen

  11. I regularly get PM's of members asking me whether they should or should not service their movement. I have a standard text that I always copy-paste and thought it would be nice to share it with everyone. Please remember this is my personal opinion. It is based on servicing dozens of movements ranging from handwinds and 28xx series up to the A7750. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most of our replica's run accurate straight from the factory. No worries! You will most of the time receive quality check pictures from your dealer that will include a Timegrapher picture. That will show that your watch runs accurate (for now). In regards to service there are some things to take into account but mainly it is reliability. See, it all depends on how you look at things. In my book there are 3 different versions on how to buy and own a replica. I want a replica that looks like a genuine and.... a. don't care if it is inferior in quality, optics and reliability. I buy a $30 cheap Chinese replica. b. uses almost the same quality parts and looks as accurate as possible. I buy a high-end replica. c. uses almost the same quality parts, looks accurate and is very reliable. I buy a high-end replica and spend some extra money for a service. Problem is that all of our replica's are assembled in Chinese sweat shops with no or poor quality control. Remember that if the assembling and control was on par with Swiss watches they would never be able to sell these watches at these prices. The people assembling these watches aren't highly trained watchmakers in white coats. It are mostly production-line Chinese workers in dark and dirty rooms that have to spit out watches in a high pace. No time for proper quality control, cleaning off finger prints, following the ETA oiling charts etc.(for example) The design of most of the Chinese clone/ copy movements are good and on par with the Swiss version (exceptions not taken into account). But it is the assembly and lack in quality control that makes these reps less reliable than it's Swiss counterpart. So to conclude. It depends on how much you care about reliability. Do you buy a replica not knowing which state the movement is in and take your chances? If it runs you're lucky and if it breaks you'll see if it can be fixed. If not you just buy a new one. Or do you buy a replica and spend some extra bucks to get your movement in top notch condition so it will last you a life time when regularly checked and serviced. Compare it with taking your car in for a service. It gives you the piece of mind of a reliable car, not just a good looking one. Hope I could contribute Mark

  15. Hello! Your two links are both relatively modern Rolex watches. One is a "nipple dial" Rolex, called this because of it's pointy, cone shape hour markers, and the second link you chose is for a very recent Ceramic Rolex watch. This is what you want, if you are looking for a "classic" Rolex diver watch http://puretime-asia.com/product/vintage-sea-dweller-1665-great-white-white-lume-dial-a21j/

  16. The difference in those links is because you are looking at two different models, the Classic Sub (16610, now discontinued) and the Ceramic Sub (116610, current model). They should both be 40mm. WE might have an error.

  18. My favorite AP's are the Diver, FC Diver, Chronopassion, and my 44MM FC on GEN GP Strap...that one is just so damn sexy. Oh and of course the 44MM SS Chrono (Panda) is a killer as well.

  20. A watch winder will not make the oil in the watch last longer, or make it go away sooner. A winder in merely for convenience. As for rotation methods, certain movements only wind one direction! (7750??) Most wind in both directions. 800+ rotations per day are normally required to maintain a full wind.
