  1. Just remember Daddy's Ten Rules of Dating: · Rule One: If you pull into my driveway and honk you'd better be delivering a package, because you're sure not picking anything up. · Rule Two: You do not touch my daughter in front of me. You may glance at her, so long as you do not peer at anything below her neck. If you cannot keep your eyes or hands off of my daughter's body, I will remove them. · Rule Three: I am aware that it is considered fashionable for boys of your age to wear their trousers so loosely that they appear to be falling off their hips. Please don't take this as an insult, but you and all of your friends are complete idiots. Still, I want to be fair and open minded about this issue, so I propose this compromise: You may come to the door with your underwear showing and your pants ten sizes too big, and I will not object. However, in order to ensure that your clothes do not, in fact, come off during the course of your date with my daughter, I will use my nail gun to fasten your trousers securely in place to your waist. · Rule Four: I'm sure you've been told that in today's world, sex without utilizing a "barrier method" of some kind can kill you. Let me elaborate. When it comes to sex, I am the barrier, and I will kill you. · Rule Five: It is usually understood that in order for us to get to know each other, we should talk about sports, politics, and other issues of the day. Please do not do this. The only information I require from you is an indication of when you expect to have my daughter safely back at my house, and the only word I need from you on this subject is: "early". · Rule Six: I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls. This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter. Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you. If you make her cry, I will make you cry. · Rule Seven: As you stand in my front hallway, waiting for my daughter to appear, and more than an hour goes by, do not sigh and fidget. If you want to be on time for the movie, you should not be dating. My daughter is putting on her makeup, a process than can take longer than painting the Golden Gate Bridge. Instead of just standing there, why don't you do something useful, like changing the oil in my car? · Rule Eight: The following places are not appropriate for a date with my daughter: Places where there are beds, sofas, or anything softer than a wooden stool. Places where there is darkness. Places where there is dancing, holding hands, or happiness. Places where the ambient temperature is warm enough to compel my daughter to wear shorts, tank tops, midriff T-shirts, or anything other than overalls, a sweater, and a goose down parka -- zipped up to her throat. Movies with a strong romantic or sexual theme are to be avoided; movies which features chain saws are okay. Hockey games are okay. Old folks homes are better. · Rule Nine: Do not lie to me. I may appear to be a potbellied, balding, middle-aged, dimwitted has-been. But on issues relating to my daughter, I am the all-knowing, merciless God of your universe. If I ask you where you are going and with whom, you have one chance to tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have a shotgun, a shovel, and five acres behind the house. Do not trifle with me. · Rule Ten: Be afraid. Be very afraid. It takes very little for me to mistake the sound of your car in the driveway for a chopper coming in over a rice paddy near Hanoi. When my Agent Orange starts acting up, the voices in my head frequently tell me to clean the guns as I wait for you to bring my daughter home. As soon as you pull into the driveway you should exit the car with both hands in plain sight. Speak the perimeter password, announce in a clear voice that you have brought my daughter home safely and early, then return to your car -- there is no need for you to come inside. The camouflaged face at the window is mine.

  2. I have had an affinity for Rolex's for 30+ years, but for whatever reason I really had not spent any time looking at vintage pieces. I would buy a new Rolex, wear it a few years and then trade it in on another new watch. Usually different models, generally favored Submariners, but also tried a Daytona, a DJ, a YM...... I had been shopping for a gen Sub C when I found this place. I joined this forum to learn about modern Rolex's and if I really wanted to spend the money on a new "bigger" looking Submariner, so maybe I could try a rep out to see if I really liked it. First rep I bought here was a BK Sub C and it was also the first rep I sold. I did figure out that the reps here are very good and I could have a bunch of nice watches in stead of 1 new gen. I acquired several modern rep versions since I joined and they are nice pieces and I wear them in my rotation, but none really do "it" for me like my gen 16613 did when I bought that way back in 1987. I just knew it was the right piece. So the more time I spend here the more I am fascinated with vintage pieces. It is weird how I missed this all the years, the intricate details, the elegant cases, the simplistic beauty...So this leads me to the last several weeks where I am crazy obsessed with vintage pieces. To the point where I spend a majority of my free time reading and studying and shopping. This probably would not be that bad if I actually narrowed it down to 1 piece, but I want several which leads to doing 3 vintage builds at once. I do not really have the knowledge to pull off one without help and I am trying to do 3, been sourcing parts and information all over the place. Not sure why I am writing all this. Maybe its a confession or maybe a cry for help Does anyone do interventions for this type of thing Is there any hope for me?

  3. Got my TC back with a new movement. I forgot how nice these are. While it was gone I worked the bracelet some more and now is just about perfect. I missed this piece. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

  4. You can also use alum powder. it works great and pretty fast. Here's some old pictures from a tutorial I did on the other RWG years ago. Took about a week to totally dissolve the stem. Heating the water occasionally also supposedly helps speed up the reaction time. It comes as a white powder. You can buy it online or often at Spanish food markets.

  5. Budget wise, I'm limited. I owned a 1680 (White), my favorite, together with some other Rolex. The only gen Rolex I kept is the 16610. I would recommend you find one of the last lug holed ones ;-) I'm lucky to have found the "rare" dial with SWISS and the flat S !

  8. Saw this fantastic thread over on the other RwG and asked semaj if he minded me posting it here too, it's a great place to read up on the current 'Super Reps' that are available, enjoy Ok, let me start off buy demystifying the term “super-rep” because it’s banded about on the forums waaaaaay too much. The only way IMO it should be used is to describe a rep that is 99% 1:1, no rep IS 1:1 or they’d just be gens. This is instead, more of a list of “super good looking and quite close to gen” list. This list is the cream of the crop, the best of the best in terms of accuracy and also as a direct result, popularity. I don't want members, especially new members, thinking this is a list of all 1:1 watches, no, instead this is a list to help guid you to the cream of the crop but always remember that a rep watch will always have its flaws. I have used MemberX’s original list as a base point and built on it. I have included the majority of his original choices, especially those which I’m not familiar with such as Concord etc I have NOT included modders builds such as RA/Phong. I have only included those who only specialise in one brand, BK/TC/Concepta etc the watches listed are for the most part “out of the box” Movements; Asian 2836 or swiss, unless the case back is see-through you get the same thing. All watches advised would contain either swiss or asian clone movements unless specified otherwise Cases: I have included a few watches with gold/white gold/platinum cases in the gen. Obviously, the weight of the rep and gen will not be the same so keep this in mind. I don’t profess to know this stuff as well as some other members, this is just based on my 2 years collection and reading online. If you have something to add or think something shouldn’t be there, shoot me a PM and I can update the thread. NB some are better than others in terms of closeness to gen, however all are recognized as being very, very good and close to gen. Small differences from later versions may improve the overall 1:1 propensity of the watch but the earlier version, if applicable, should still be considered very good and accurate. Small differences to the gens such as the placement being off by a few millimeters of the “Swiss made” mark etc are inconsequential. please note: Those marked *under review* are on the cusp of being removed from the list due to popular consensus that they may may not/should not be classified with the rest of the watches listed. This is a peer reviewed list and majority rules. The more people we have here giving input the better the list will be and more accurate. 10. Wow. I just went through all of these posts about what people are listening to and it's really fascinating! I'm a professional musician...meaning that it's what I do full time, so my musical tastes have an extremely broad range. Some people mentioned Joe Bonamassa, Amy Winehouse, The White Stripes...there is great music to be heard from these people! I also wanted to say that TTK's playlist right now is AWESOME!!! He's even got some Nick Drake in there...wow. Okay, now for the albums I'm listening to lately: Derek Trucks Band: Soul Serenade, Lifelines, Joyful Noise (all three albums are amazing) Susan Tedeschi: Hope and Desire (I had to mention her next as she's married to Derek, this album has the best cover of "Lord Protect My Child" by Bob Dylan EVER!!!) Brandi Carlile: The Story Ben Harper: Live from Mars, Lifeline, Diamonds on the Inside (if you don't own any Ben Harper, do yourself a favor and buy some...truly awesome stuff!!!) Harry Connick Jr.: Chanson du Vieux Carre Madeleine Peyroux: Half the Perfect World Joni Mitchell: Clouds The Band: Best of the Band (I don't normally like these best of things, as it's not as the band intended their music to be heard, but this one is great, and for me The Band is PERFECT no matter how you listen to them!!!) John Prine: John Prine John Mayer Trio: Try! (I like him even more now that I know he's into watches!!!) Okay, as I'm a classical musician I'll spare you all the album details, but lately my listening has been stuff like Michael Tilson Admin' Street Song for Symphonic Brass, performed by the Center City Brass Quintet, Brahms 1st Violin Concerto performed by Malcolm McNab, Grieg's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen (I'm getting married in March...trying to find something unique for the recessional), and of course I can't go a day without listening to some Bach. Okay...I'm done for now...sorry everyone, this thread hit a nerve and away I went...
