  2. I bought this Gen a couple of years ago when times were better, it's a 764xxx from 1962 it's what's called a tropical dial with uniform spiderwebbing, dial is all original as are the hands, the hands may have been relumed some time ago but they are original to the watch. It's never been in a collection and walked into the dealers shop from the original owner. Oh how I miss this one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  4. Some of you know that I already build some Franken 5002. Some still own former versions. It was time for a new build - A build nobody else has done yet. This time it was supposed to be perfect. With the help of the very talented watchmaker and friend Zocker4711 a long journey came to an end. Domi also helped and made a custom movement holder and thinned the case. Thanks a lot guys! For this build I visited Zocker4711 with all parts and we worked on the Franken the entire day. People that know Zocker or me know how hard we are looking for perfection. No mistake was acceptable. The setup: The perfect custom movement holder done by Domi: The case back was thinned by Domi so that the new movement fits: The watch case. Prepared by Zocker with the perfect installed GEN tube: The GEN crown: I was lucky to score two brand new old bufallo straps. The brown is the rare old one with the nice texture. And the black is even more rare and not available at all. GEN dial, movement and date disc: And GEN hands installed. Zocker did an awesome job. Not one scratch on the hands. Beautiful: There we go: Wristshots: 4 days power reserve: 5 days power reserve: Fully charged: I cant thank Zocker4711 enough. Finding and collecting the parts over years was one thing and my passion. But putting them together is the other story and Zocker4711 did an hell of a job here. I appreciate that he is at least as much a perfectionist like I am. The specs so far: BP Factory IWC 5002 Big Pilot IWC cal 51112 movement IWC 5002 dial IWC hour and minute hand IWC second hand IWC power reserve hand IWC date disc IWC crown IWC tube IWC crystal IWC brown buffalo strap IWC black buffalo strap And trust me. The movement is unbelievable. You can leave it on your desk for 5 days and it is still timed 100% correct. Not a second to fast or to slow. Cheers

  5. It is an interesting dial, but my (un) biased opinion is that the bevels could have been cut better. I could honestly do better. I would pass and be patient, even if it takes some time. It's your birth year watch. There should be no reservations. You have to absolutely love every aspect of the watch and jump in when you find the right one.

  6. Gents, it's one thing to have God's Own Springbars in your endlinks, but also consider the puny little springbar in the clasp itself. It's another potential point of failure. I used to wear my bands a little tighter, and I'd break springbars all the time. Now I got used to wearing them a little too loose and no more problems.

  9. Your post shows you are new to watch collecting dear friend. You'll probably be much surpriseto know that Cartier, Tiffanys and other high end brand names asked Rolex to let them use a few square millimeters on Rolex dials to make a statement by associating their names tot he Rolex brand, a name that doubtless is the most pretigeous in the market, when it comes to worldwide recognition. So, if you happen to run into one of these, let us know. There will be quite a few ready to sell their etire collection to grab one.

  10. The Athaya is a great replacement. I had Ziggy install it and we encountered some problems. It originally went onto a Silix case, whose side tapers in at the top (when viewed from the end of the lug). He had to drill the tube hole parallel to the case, not perpendicular to the side. This put the hole perilously close to the underside, where the caseback seals flat. It made a very minor protrusion but it still worked. On the Big Gonzo (MQ case) there was plenty of metal for it to fit correctly. It lived there until I could cough up the money for the gen crown.

  11. Wow.... That is unbelievable. Seriously, unbelievable. Amazing. Can I ask what you are into it for $?

  12. It should protrude, but maybe 1/2mm less than that. Is the tube still fully screwed into the case? Can you pull the stem and see if there's a monster o-ring inside the crown? It's actually not bad but the shape of the tube where it enters the crown makes it look too long. Here is Athaya's 8mm crown. It's a similar distance but shaped more accurate: A different angle: Here's a couple gens:

  14. I just put together an Explorer for a member using a Felsa 4000 series movement. After removing the date gizmos, making a special movment spacer the dial glued directly to it and stem height was just about perfect + it's an 18k vph movement.
