  1. *A 2824 has the correct stem height for this case. I had a phong that I regretted selling.

  2. That's not a bad looking case at all, and alligoat is right, it shouldn't be that pristine. That's easy to fix. The key is long thin lugs and a THIN case profile. Everything else is "close enough is good enough".

  3. If you didn't spend too much on the case, you could still build a decent 5508 and put an eta movement in there. Movement- $100-200- either a 2824-2 or a 2846-2- don't know which one will work dial- say from Yuki- looks like they don't have a 5508 dial right now- might be able to use a 6536 dial and knock off the dial feet- $113 http://www.yukiwatch.com/catalog/item/8677972/9954496.htm Set of gold submariner hands from Clarks- $15 or so. Movement ring- #2 rafflestime or Helenarou- $15 a sympathetic watchmaker could put it all together for $50-100- it's worth at least $40! You'd need a bracelet or a strap- another $20-40, more if you go with a Yuki rivet. I built a 5508 in 2008 with an NDT case and dial ($1080 or slightly more) a 1520 movement- $880 plus $200 to service- a 1530 would be correct, but I bought a gold Air King and didn't want to steal the 1530 out of it. 6mm crown- $30-40 Clark gold hands for Rolex 1500 movt. rivet bracelet that I had WSO bezel insert- $35 with a decent acrylic pearl T-16 crystal- $75- can't touch em for that these days! Watchmaker put it together- under $100, maybe $75 So I have close to $2,500 in it Sorry for the crappy pic, but you get the idea. I don't really call this a franken because the only Rolex parts are the movement, crown and crystal.

  4. A brief update. The 6542 is very near completion. I am getting excited! In other news. While I try and figure out the final steps of my 1019 build. I picked up a 2813 movement and hands to build. 6541 Bobby Allison in the meantime. Well I got it done on the weekend and it turned out good ... sorta.....until earlier this week. Then noticed the minute hand came loose. So I had to pull it apart and reinstall the hands. I'm doing so I broke the pinion on the movement for the seconds hand off in the seconds hands so now I need a new set of hands and a new movement. At least I got to take a few cool pics of it before destroying it. [emoji38][emoji95]☠️ *sigh*. Back to the drawing board. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. You're so right imo. Had the same car as my first car ever, I've used and abused it over and over, even sank it but it never let me down and I've always been able to fix it... now my G63 has over 19 computers onboard and is in my mind a pos compared to my p60 built for the army as a tool. You can buy all gen and go to an AD for every little trouble or learn your way out and do it yourself. It's like building a new company, you don't do it for the money but for the journey (I've built 8 so far).

  7. I have a lot of people contact me wondering why they can't just screw a 24-6020 tube into a rep case so they can use a Rolex crown. It sounds like such an easy process, anybody should be able to do it! Not quite so simple, though... Most rep cases have a tube hole that's too small so it will need to be drilled out and re-tapped: A lot of folks do this and are bummed when the crown sticks up like a third-eye zit! Most people don't look at the new tube that closely and fail to notice the chamfer/angle between the tube's crown threads and case threads so they keep cranking on it until the tube snaps off in the case: I have quite a few sent to me in this condition... It seems all that would be necessary would be to countersink the tube hole to allow the tube to set flush against the case: Well, not quite - crown still sticks out too far: The amount of countersink is dependent on the crown being used so from this point I just increase the countersink into a shallow "counterbore" untill the crown sits about the way I want it. The amount of counterbore will vary so I'm not going to say how deep, that is something you have to experiment with to find: Screw the tube in, just right: And you're all set!

  9. I quit cigarettes by vaping over 2 years ago... best thing I ever did. I don't lose my breath I'm healthier (albeit a bit heavier) My mouth doesn't taste like an ashtray My clothes don't stink I don't stink I can vape in the house, and my house doesn't stink I brew my own juice, and roll my own coils I save a ton of money (especially here in Oz, where cigarettes are $24 a pack!) I must admit, although, that I do like an excellent stogie, once in a great while... especially with a fine single malt!
