  1. From my work with dials, I would guess that the top dial was my attempt at relum. Great job, I have messed up with dials just enough to know that I can't imagine doing a dial like yours. I will probably try the re luming some day. The more I work with watches the more I appreciate the skill and years behind those that do it well...great pics,,,,,,,,,thanks for the inspiration..
  2. I feel the same way about my 024. I will probably have it on all weekend....I can't believe this was less than 200 USD....
  3. I almost got that rep myself,,,,,I would guess the lug width is 20mm? Also, what is the length, not including the lugs?
  4. This sounds like the recessed pin problem all over again. The asian copies of the 6497 put the dial feet in different places so, you can't put a rep dial on a gen 6497, at least I can't. Also, since the topic is on dials, any advice on the proper way to remove a 6497 dial? Should you turn the screws only a half turn to unlock the dial feet? Or is it something you just losen up by unscrewing a number of turns?
  5. Looking good,,,,,I'm thinking mid summer any date ideas? I'll leave it up to the New yorkers to suggest a place....
  6. On the back mine, says OP 6527, no BB or numbers following or specific number of the series. Overall, looks pretty close. thanks..
  7. NYC would be great, my wife has friends there and it would be a cool trip. As silly as it sounds, I've actually never been to NYC...
  8. That's one... I forgot to mention,,,wine and beer should be present. However, NO WATCH TOOLS. Trust me,,,drinking and working on watches is a bad idea. Well see how this progresses, perhaps some time over the summer. I'm ok with NJ/NY area..
  9. I guess if I get zero responses, I'll have to. I might have to think about how I can make it "business related".
  10. I'm in western PA near Pittsburgh. However, it is somewhat close to many east coast major cities. I was just thinking how cool it would be to get a group (even a very small group) together for a few hours of watch talk in person. Any thoughts?
  11. I've had on the fiddy, 111, 183 and have yet to ever hear a single comment on any of my watches. And I usually keep an eye out for others, in particular when I'm in a larger city. The last time I was in DC checking out the watches, I think this guy thought I was checking out something else (unfortunately, when people are walking their watch is about the same height as other things) and the guy looked at me like he wanted to kick my ass, I didn't say anything but was wanted to say,,,just looking at your watch,,,,,which turned out to a timex anyway,,,,,
  12. Here is my new 024 from Joshua, not a great pic but nice watch. I actually like it better than the artos.
  13. Thanks again, I do have one additional question I hope this hasn't been covered. It seems so confusing why the reps would have such decent movements but then have a recessed pin. I took my measurments from a genuine eta 6497, so panerai must also use a longer cannon pinion and hour wheel than the original movement they started with due to a thick dial? Is the recessed pin problem due to the rep movements actually being too accurate to the eta movements?
  14. Man,,,you just made my weekend. That is totally my goal with this hobby and everytime I get down I check out Gregko's project. I know my project was MUCH easier but still,,,
  15. I had the base from Joshua and wanted to fix the recessed pin. Anyway, totally messed up the dial and hands so I decided to just see what the watch looks like without a dial, turns out the new swiss 6497 has a very nicely decorated movement and I had some extra hands so here is the result. I already ordered a new face and hands but this will do till they get here. Any thoughts?
  16. Thanks for your time and advice. In the end I totally messed up the dial and hands, but did learn something from it, I ended up spending some time with the keyless works. I find myself amazed that someone came up with that. I found the 6497 keyless works much easier to appreciate then the eta 2801. anyway, thanks again, the correct sizes will help alot!
  17. I think it’s important to remember that the “witch hunt” (that phrase also came to my mind) stems from just a few vocal people on VP and P. I still think there is way more overlap between these forums than actual differences and it comes down to an obsession with watches as the common factor for 95% of us. Only a small percent gets bent out of shape over the rep vs. gen difference.
  18. I got the 112 with the new swiss 6497 and it still had a recessed pin problem. I got a new hour wheel (HT 1.65) and canon pinion (HT 2.62) and got everything apart to discover these were the same size as the rep movement. It looks like the only real problem is with the hands. If I took the min hand down a bit so it would sit lower on the can pin, it looks like that should fix the problem. Does this seems right? Also, sometimes I'm curious if this is the right hobby for me, I ended up doing more damage than good. I scratched the dial and almost broke off one of the legs of the dial.
  19. Here is my international watchman GMT, will probably have it on most of the weekend.
  20. I'm over there about the same time I spend over here and it is hard to hear that I'm immoral or unethicial just because I have a few reps. However, I'm not sure this really is the consensus. My guess is that there really are a lot of serious paneristi that are pretty cool with reps but out of respect for the rules of the forum they keep this to themselves. Once you bring up the "r" word in person most don't seem to seriously object, at least that has been my experience.
  21. Nice watch, really my all time favorite pam. I noticed the crown on my base sticks out too far also. I'm going to fix the recessed pin today and see why. Perhaps I could shorten the stem, but then I would also need to fix the crown protector.
  22. Your pictures are forcing me into some serious weekend strap buying,,,,,AND,,,why did I sell my fiddy?????
  23. I would like at least one. Please PM any info. Thanks.
  24. I would think that would go great with the 112....
