  1. I was big on the swan's neck adjustment early on but now I really don't care for it. It is purely for visual effect and doesn't do anything as far as I am aware. It will not fool anyone because of too many other obvious differences with the movement. This is just my opinion, but would pass on it. However, seems like you are going for a close rep, so in that sense I guess it is necessary.
  2. I need to order some replacement gaskets for a few panerais. This is for the caseback, from memory most of these seem to be the same size, even the 44 and 47 seem to be the same but I haven't taken an exact measurement. I was curious if anyone knew the exact size so I could order these. Thanks,,,chris,
  3. I'm at phase 6.5: for every pam, order a rolex for the wife. I think this is working and will hopefully prevent phase 7....
  4. probably just the pics, the CP looks a little grainy.
  5. 39 and want to be a watchmaker when I grow up.
  6. Looks great, I might do something like that myself. I like that the pin isn't recessed but it looks a bit off.
  7. The whole thing can get pretty silly. Right now I only have one gen ( a 111H) and it is up for sale. It is totally perfect and flawless but that is exactly why I don't wear it or if I do, I worry about it the whole time. I don't spend too much time anymore on the gen pam forums. I just lost interest in the whole "special" thing of owning a gen. I'll probably take a big hit on this and lose around 600 USD but it helped change my watch philosophy, I don't think I'll ever spend more than 1000 on a SS watch again.
  8. this is just a guess, but I think most gen owners are actually pretty cool about reps, it is just a small, but very vocal minority that gets emotional and upset over reps. When I bought my first gen at the AD, I brought up reps and the guy was very cool about it and actually knew how good some of the replicas are now. Next time I go to the AD, I will wear a rep.
  9. My next watch will be the 176H, but there seems to be a wait on the Ti cases right now. Anyway, hopefully someone can help the time pass with some 176H pics with some good strap choices. Thanks.
  10. It is the circumference, I used my dremel and it took it right off. It is hard to mark the new dial and measure what needs to be taken off. I used the old dial and put it on top of the new one. lots of room for mistakes. If you look carefully at my dial at the right angle, you can see a place where the dial is too small. Can't really fix this but I am probably the only one that would notice it. Good luck.
  11. Davidsen has very nice dials, I have two myself but there are some things to check first. His dials may be too large for your case, I had to trim my dial down about 1 mm. Not an impossible task, but if you take too much off you can't put it back. I would also check to see if the dial feet are in the same place.
  12. Yes on the capped hands, can't have the RP on the base. but the crown looks really good in the picture for some reason, I can't recall where it came from.
  13. same base, new strap...
  14. I am also waiting for a decent rep of the BP. I have the current one out and the movement is terrible and with a large crystal I think you need sapphire. There seems to be a demand for this watch and no one is listening. In the mean time, guess we will just have to enjoy those pics.
  15. I changed my mind, forget the freak,,,,bring on the B and R instrument watch.
  16. It is probably impossible to do a rep,,,,but the UN freak would be very nice. I would definately pay 2 or 3 times the normal rep price for one that at least got the basic movement to move even it it wasn't a tourbillon.
  17. Seems like we might have a similar problem. With mine, I can use quick set date to advance about 5 days and then it totally stops. but if I pull out the crown and reset the hands, then use the quick set date again, I can get another few days out of it. It would be interesting to see what the problem is, but I just sold it. I am glad you posted this,,,and actually happy I pressed that button and was able to fully describe the problem to the person who bought it. This is just the kind of stuff that can make a deal go bad. I'll try to keep track of it and we can see if it is the same problem.
  18. That is one of the reasons I never use the quick set date function. As I recall, it is sometime between 11 and 4 in the morning, which agrees with your times.
  19. Yes,,,,why did I do it????????????? I couldn't help trying out the date changing button on my 188 (which is up for sale) and some strange stuff also happened. I could change about 4 or 5 dates in a row, then nothing. However, if I gave the rotor a spin or changed the time, I could change the date again. Oh well,,guess I'll have to send this one in also.....I'm glad I caught this before I sold it. thanks...
  20. got the sandpaper out yesterday and worked on this strap...
  21. Ok,,please keep in mind one of my old post comes up first and has nothing to do with any of this. He posted his stuff after my ad for the 217. I was a bit taken when my old post came up.........chris BTW, the 217 transaction was very smooth and has now been sold without a single problem.
  22. Interesting. I was planning on wearing my gen 111H for my visit but it is now up for sale and wasn't sure what to wear. Now, perhaps I'll wear my 024 rep and see what happens. Those that have had Kobolds on, most measure in at 42 mm, do they feel much smaller than a panerai?
  23. I haven't heard any of this, but did notice that only two years ago the watches were going for around 1,000 and now they at least doubled. And the resale is pretty bad on these, not near panerai. I've seen a few going for less than 50%. Even with these things going on,,,it would still be interesting to talk with him.
  24. I'm not a huge fan of kobold's design but I think the watches have such a great story behind them I've considered buying one a few times. I've lived in Pittsburgh for years now and just realized his office is less than 30 mins from me, so I have planned a trip down there after spring semester is over. I'll do a post on my trip, should be cool.
  25. I've posted this before, but I think the skeleton panerai is a totally cool watch and represents my summer project. I've got the case, the 6497 and the files and the dremel. Time will tell.....
