  1. As I was saying, a little watch knowledge can be a socially dangerous thing. Just bring up watches at the next party and see the room clear.
  2. Yes, this is the coolest virtual place to have a drink and mello out. mello,,,sometimes that helps man.
  3. Great question. I've seen a few watches with this but would really like to know who was the first to come up with it.
  4. Most of us spend so much time thinking and doing research on watches but we almost never get a chance to use it. Recently, at a mall watch store I was looking at a steinhausen (sp?) tourbillon and a skeleton. I couldn't resist telling the non watch salepeople all about the asian tourbillon and how I can actually get the skeleton movement for 7 dollars and the tourbillon for around 700 (the skeleton was 300, the tourbillon was 3000). I really tried to be as polite as possible but I think they were very happy when I finally left.
  5. Great pics, if that was part of my collection I would have a very difficult time wearing something else,,,,,,ever....
  6. the 111 is such a great watch,,,It's a must have for those infected with panerai....nice pics..
  7. Of course it isn't a great or even decent rep,,,,but I think any wife that is at least attempting the replica world deserves lots of credit. To be honest, my first pam replica is any better, and I bought that one myself...
  8. I'm in pittsburgh and thought of a get together a while back,,,,,,even a few places in NY came up as possiblities. Then my typical organizational skills took over and nothing happend. Still, I'm familiar with beachwood,,,,,,would be into it. I'll drop a pm
  9. Nice crown on the 036,,,of course my favorite is the WM,,,,totally impressive. any shots of the back?
  10. The date mag issue will be difficult to tell with pictures. I remember two of my subs, if they were in direct sunlight, it actually looked acceptable. So, if may be one of those things you need to have in hand to detect.
  11. I like it, but can't get over the poor date magnification problem. This may only hold for the one I had, but it was very difficult to read the date.
  12. great watch,,,,,,,I have the cheap Russian version...which is actually pretty cool for the money, but I would really enjoy seeing what a quality version would be like....enjoy...I would...
  13. I thought my gen SMP was a great watch that could really take abuse. For years I would run, swim, golf and lift weights with it, and the thing never lost more than 4 or 5 secs a day. One day I even hit the heavy bag with it on (I fogot I had it on). I took a full swing that make perfect contact with the bag and it didn't affect it at all. I would like to see what would happen if you tried that with an asian auto...Of couse after my infection with large watches it had to go. I should pick up the larger 45 mm omega rep with a 2824 as a replacement beater..
  14. Thanks,,,I missed that link, I feel more confident that it is legit. Now,,,I just need to convince the wife.....
  15. Ok, I'm in, the first one is back on college and when I was into Carl Jung (the guy that said all males have a female image in them, the anima is the female image in the male mind) and the second one is when I thought I knew something about the mind and brain and free will.... the princess anima in a past without limits and ends lives a quest for a perfection that mends the heart of one man and the souls of many in a poverty of surround, a boy took cape and broke bound to seek an image that was close but forever unheard she spoke soft, in opposites her captors preferred in his shadow she found darkness her home trapped by evil traits a princess lay alone till in a fools sleep he cast a line, infinitely small it cast no shadow at all to pave a path of escape less than timeless did it take to emerge on the other side and grace clear sky for all he saw was the princess anima it filled all, both truth and lie The inhabitants of a most populace land, Found the task of decision making desperately at hand Simple coordination seemed implausible With so many parts, a single thing was impossible Then, by trial and error A fictitious King appeared from out of nowhere A ruler with the hearts of the court Moved forth with ease to both walk and purport And in the joy of harmonic rule The stories of the King grew and grew Till the myth itself began to question and worry What will happen in the end? Forgetting all along, the King was nothing but a useful story
  16. IMO paradox is the essence of panerai.
  17. great pics,,,,,,,,more evidence why I need to buy that watch and have greg do a strap for it.
  18. I was thinking of getting my mm20 with this but not sure. Is any one familiar with this watch campany? thanks. http://www.southerncross-time.com/
  19. Great watch, I really enjoy hearing the stories about the unexpected things that come up when putting a watch like this together. They can be annoying at the time but end up making the watch more interesting and more personal when you wear it. I have a davidsen case arriving soon and will be doing something similar. I might try using satin varnish on the dial and even filling in with the lum. Did you just paint the varnish on the dial using a small paint brush?
  20. Suddenly, I'm not into watches anymore, I think I'll start collecting stamps or coins.
  21. I think the recent auction was a good idea. Any chance we could have an auction section? It puts a definitive time on when the sale is concluded. Of course auctions could just become a typical part of the sales section. It seemed like a good idea, any thoughts?
  22. So, what is the average age? I don't feel like getting the calc out myself but my guess is that it is around 30, but this is a pretty small sample size to generalize to the entire 1800.
  23. It was from international watchman, pretty nice for 15 bucks (usd). I took some sand paper to it and cut the ends, it was a 24mm and the Azimuth is 22.
  24. Very cool, I was talking to him last week. I was thinking of picking this up (lots of watch ideas but little money). He said the finish would pick up the light in very cool ways that can't be photographed. I think these new ones have better antireflective coating. Of course the other cool thing is that it is already tested to be at least 6 atm. Great watch,,,nice choice.
  25. Right now, the mm20 is one of my favorite watches. Yours certainly doesn't seem to be getting any wrist time. If you already have the pics, why not put it up for sale here or on the big watch forum? That would take about five mins.
