  1. no doubt a rep......movement totally gives it away.
  2. I'll have this on at least the next few days...
  3. I wouldn't put this in the simplicity category, but I've really been into a Chianti by Da Vinci. It is highly rated ( wine spectator) for under 15 (USD) a bottle. I've got about 10 hours before my first glass...
  4. great combo, I like the color of davidsen's dials. They look more vintage then most of the other reps. the lum is a darker color and goes great with that strap. The case looks good to. Is that the gen 6497? Doesn't look like any recessed pin problems..
  5. I totally agree with you on the IWC BP reps. I got one and the only reason I wear it is because I like the overall look so much. I guess I'll go with the PVD. I found it for 180 USD. Someone needs to make a generic big pilot with a decent movement. If it was even 500 US, it would be worth it. Looking back, I wish I would have bought Tom's watch.
  6. I decided to order that Russian watch. In another post I specifically asked for a 47 mm mechanical pilot watch under 500 and this does the job. I requested if I can get it with a clear caseback. I'm just not sure about the PVD or SS both look pretty good. My only worry is that I've had 3 or 4 Russian watches and lots of reps. In general, for the same price the reps have always been superior in quality. To take the initial question up a level, any overall differences between reps and Russians?
  7. I think the russian pilot is pretty nice. Anyone know if you could put the IWC big pilot rep dial on that? I would guess if the OEM dial works, the rep dial would.
  8. Thanks, that is a good link.
  9. Is there any particularly good time to set for removing and replacing the hands? I have been doing 6 for removal so the hour and min hard are in opposition to each other. I usually replace the hands with the time set at 3. Do you have specific times for this? Also, I remember reading in one of your post that you work with the Russian movement (Molnija) in the hand setting position. Is this because the sliding pinion falls out if you remove the stem in the winding position and turn the movement over? I was just curious because I seem to have way more problems with the keyless works in the Russian movement than in the 6497. As always, thanks for your help. It is great to have an expert to help with these issues.
  10. I like it but too expensive. Why can't I find a 47 mm pilot watch with a decent movement for under 500 USDs?
  11. just got this one yesterday
  12. Perhaps it is just another variable. Just a few hours ago, I held a 53 thousand dollar (USD) Ulysse Nardin sold gold watch from an AD. The thing was like a brick. I guess it is just another one of those noticable differences....personally, I really don't care to match the gens in every way, but some seem to...
  13. What about the 176H??? I have one on the way from Joshua. For at least a year I was into the seconds hand at nine, and now it actually bothers me, so pretty much everything is a base in one from or another. Just something to think about...
  14. Nice, it will look even better with a little wear on it.
  15. I'm doing the exact watch but in SS, I'm just waiting on my movement from Davidsen, the one with the longer CP...IMO the recessed pin looks even worse on a base model. How are you dealing with the recessed pin?
  16. I would absolutely go generic. This is just my opinion but I don't think the letters and brand name on any watch dial adds to the overal aesthetics of the dial.
  17. I paid around 50 less for my 212 with the swiss 7750. For me, the only real turn off was looking at the plastic movement holder which is totally visable. I didn't even care if the movement was unfinished but to put in a plastic holder for this nice movement seemed wrong..I do miss it and might get the asian 7750 or asian manual, the plus of the manual, I believe it uses a metal movement holder and the hands are the correct color.
  18. I technically still have it but it is in pieces. Hopefully this summer I'll post a good skeleton pan....
  19. It has been a very difficult week,,,,called for the 111h gen.
  20. make it all SS, put it in a luminor case and make it 300 m WR...........that is the worlds ultimate watch and actually worth paying 6 or 7 thousand USD.
  21. those Nivrel's are totally beautiful, I agree. That kind level of skeletonizing a watch captures the essence of watchmaking IMO. AND,,,,as I recall, the price on many of them is not that crazy. And you can actually get it WITHOUT the phallus which would be my option.
  22. It always comes down to finding a good screw.....I wonder if this is only with men's watches? Perhaps it is different for womens....
  23. Thanks,,,,,,that really helps. I don't have the tools to make a good measurement on them.
  24. Very nice pictures, good lighting. The 111H is always a great choice...
  25. Great post, it totally took me back to Sartre. There may not be any real difference between a rep and gen except those socially defined. As I sit at my workbench, I see little difference between my reps and gen..in the social world,,,then the differences appears. Good thing I spend so little time in the social world, ie. at the AD....
