ok,,,I voted. Nice distraction....back to watches,,,I mean work.

I'll have to stay for the credits and see if a "thank you" goes to panerai and/or muller. I know 007 and other films will give some sort of credit to the watches they used, i.e, advertised. I wonder how much panerai would have had to pay to have superman wear a 187?

Unbelievably Accurate Solid 18k Muller Casablanca
chris5264 replied to archibald's topic in Other Brands Area
I couldn't find the size of this piece, I'm assuming it has 20mm lugs, but aren't there are least two sizes of the Mullers in this style? I like the larger ones but would hate to pay this price and get small watch (small for those of us used to pams). -
My first thought when I saw this post.....and the price is perfect.

I do worry sometimes about the purity of the metal used in reps. I mean, we really have no idea what is mixed in with this stuff or what its origins are. Now, keep in mind I'm a totally paranoid person but I've even thought of taking my reps in to test for radioactivity, I mean who knows what types of quality control is involved in these cases? Of course, I thought that was a pretty crazy idea, but ended up finding a few stories of various metals that were discovered to be radioactive, in one case a watch bracelet with radioactive pins that was discovered on a trip to a nuclear power plant (Probably BS). Yes, it is a pretty crazy thing to worry about,,,I know

Glue for dials + sources for date overlays
chris5264 replied to davethecat's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
I've used these dial dots a number of times and have went back to remove the dial at some later time. They really do hold the dial down well, but at the same time you can still remove it. IMO, they work very well. -
This isn't my type of watch but the wife got it as a spontaneous gift about 5 years ago. When I came home, it was hanging around a nice bottle of wine. Given that, I like to wear it now and again.

That thing is soooo nice it may pull me from my vintage pathology.

some pics? let's see the movement... Nice find,,,,,,,,,now,,,,manipulate the case in what ever way will work to fit that movement....
-
now I'm offended,,,,,,,,,,,,,fletch is the movie equal to a gen pam 111. In truth, I've never been offended, and can't wait to experience what people mean when they say they "are offended"

Nice straps,,,,,,,great watch.

funny story,,,,and speaks to the people that often work at the AD. I was just into an Omega AD a few days ago with a panerai rep and the guy never even heard of panerai! Most of this is about what we notice, and most of us would have noticed something floating around in the dial before we put it on display. I bet only a small percent of AD people are watch freaks,,,,,,maybe 10%, the rest are just there doing time till pay day.

Nice,,,,,,,I used to be so anit-rolex, but I am starting to see why people like these watches,,,in particular the vintage ones.....

There is an old Zen saying "when the student is ready the teacher appears" I would put the movement away for a while and wait, eventually some case will come along that will work.....of course,,,,,,,what do I know after a bottle of chianti.....
-
that would be mine too.....nice work.

check out the sales section of timezone,,,,,some one just posted a practially new 112H up for sale. If you picked this up for 3000 (they are asking 3100), it would be a great deal.
-
I'm going to wait for the next one to come out and see what happens to the price on this one.
-
This is a pretty good idea,,,,and would serve as a reality check for some as long as it was done in a thoughful way. My wife always calls me an anti capitalist, but I'm really not. Profit and Caveat Emptor is fine with some stuff, just not my passions.
-
112H,,,,,,,,would be my choice.

Here is another thought (I don't know why I thought about this for my entire jog). Anway, Imagine 100 people use the following logic which is totally reasonable on the surface. "I paid 300, never had the watch on and will sell it for 270, whoever buys it is getting a good deal" This is actually true, but for larger numbers it becomes a problem. Out of those 100 deals how many will have problems shortly after getting the watch? I imagine people will be upset because they could have spent just a little more and had the problem fixed with a dealer. I just think over time, this logic could end up taking some of the enjoyment involved in watch trading. I would rather take my loss and know if something goes wrong, the person at least got a really good deal.
-
For what it is worth, I've also been pretty disappointed in the trading section lately. When I sell, I know I'm going to take a hit and I've never asked near what I've paid. I know it sucks. I paid 250 and just sold a watch for 150 and NEVER even had it on a single day. I think it depends on the assumptions being made which are not always explicit. If you sell a used watch near to what a dealer sells it for will you assume the responsiblities of a dealer? eg, fix things if something goes wrong the first few weeks, replace a part if something falls off, etc. I know if I buy from certain dealers and something goes wrong in a reasonable amount of time they will fix it. There is more guesswork with non dealers and I think the price should reflect this, IMO.

Iwc Fa Jones + Decorated Back From Eddie
chris5264 replied to fkhill33's topic in General Discussion
This and the new price on the giant pam both in one day,,,,totally cool, bad day to be broke. Also, I'm sure a few people get extra points by posting things like this on gen forums. I'm just happy it was actually a good rep this time. I wouldn't be surprised if this one doesn't backfire and turn a few more TZers into rep collectors. -
My guess is that no one has pushed the issue, so he gets away with it. These watches have an interesting status on the gen forums. You can actually sell them and no one gets too upset (just don't include pics). Also, I may be mistaken, but I thought the cases and movement were actually swiss,,,as in really swiss. IMO the case and crystal quality do seem better than the basic pam rep but of course, who knows, I mean my trias was also swiss,,,,

It would be funny if he signed up and read your post, but never thought it was about him because he knows what a great person he is and the guy in the post is an obvious asshat.
