  1. Great work, from the front it would be almost impossible to tell it's a rep. Shows how important the crown guard, crown, lum and correct cannon pinion height are.
  2. Nice, the crown and guard on the 201a looks great.
  3. I would be at my watch bench right now if it wasn't for this back problem. I ended up taking flexeril and naprosyn and it seems to be helping. Now when it says "may cause Dizziness and alcohol may intensify this effect" is that a suggestion? It is a bit early here for a drink.
  4. Sounds like you've already made a good choice in a future wife. If I was given that proposal I would almost for sure got with the UTS. It is about 1800 but If you could find one used it would probably be around there. http://www.utswatches.com/
  5. that is soooo nice. Mine should be here soon from Davidsen. Please post as many pics as possible, very cool watch.
  6. There was a long post about buying from other members a while back and I tried to point out how different it is than buying from a dealer. Obviously any dealer would just replace it. If it wasn't insured and you two didn't agree on shipping damage then it isn't totally clear what should happen. I know if I sold the watch, I would just give the person a refund, in particular if my packing wasn't very good. Good luck, seems like it needs some work and a new crystal.
  7. Usually, I don't care how much a rep looks like the gen, but I really am curious how many people could tell this one is a rep........I should have Davidsen's completed version soon. I'm not sure if I will do anything with it or leave it as is.
  8. I have the 201a on order and totally can't wait for this one. I find myself more and more into the pre V pams.... In fact, the 183 is the only one I currently have that isn't.
  9. thanks, that worked perfectly. I can't believe there was a hole there and I didn't think of putting some glue in it. I also ordered Davidsen's crown, only because I have wanted one of these for about a year.
  10. I'm dealing with a screw down crown that I basically want to change into a non-screw down crown. The crown itself must have a small spring inside between where the stem screws in and the base of the crown. What I want to do is remove that spring. Is there any way to get these things apart? This is from a vintage panerai, a 3436, but I think they are all the same.
  11. This actually turned out to be a good post, it reminded me I should donate once in a while. I spend a lot of time here and sold a few watches. What's five or ten bucks every so often?
  12. This was a pretty cool watch I had a while back. The dial was the most detailed of any out there. Hundreds of stars are represented on the sky chart, you really need a loupe to get the effect. The only bad thing was that it was quartz, or else I would have held on to it.
  13. I like yours better, I might try a few of your suggestions on this project
  14. If you sent pics of the problem, perhaps they would send you a new dial?
  15. That is an easy fix if you can find a watchmaker to work on it. It would probably take about 5 mins and you wouldn't have to send it out.
  16. I'm sorry to hear how common this is, I had almost the exact thing happen about a month ago and it has been a totally new experience in pain. I've been to a chiropractor three times (this guy has over 25 years of experience) and it isn't really helping me very much. My office is next to a physical therapist and she basically told me rest and time are the only things that really help this.
  17. Very nice, what the rep game is all about IMO,
  18. I tried something similar with tea, it turned out nice execpt there were faint outlines around all the markers. Looking forward to seeing how it turned out.
  19. Great pics and perfect watch to compare the mm20 to. IMO, the biggest problem with the fiddy (and not just the rep but even the gen) is that the size of the numbers/markers is too small which doesn't fit the overall size of the watch let alone represent the actual vintage pams. And that box,,,,,looks better than the gen panerai boxes.
  20. I've had problems like that with similar pages. You have to make sure that your firewall will allow access to that address.
  21. I am very willing to believe the quality is better than the standard rep, however I do think Davidsen's mm20 is a great deal for the money. I will still end up getting a real mm20 soon. If you put two high quality straps in, a real swiss movement, 100 m waterproof and outstanding lum and nice presentation box the 1,000 doesn't seem like a lot anymore. It's friday, a few drinks and I'll probably end up here with a credit card. http://www.southerncross-time.com/
  22. I'm not sure what you mean "very illegal". Anyway, how are the straps? The site goes on about the quality of the straps. What do you think? Also, congrats,,that is a great watch.
  23. Personally, I would go with the power res, I find the gmt kind a boring.
  24. To a good degree, I enjoy my reps because I can beat them up without worry. Any watch over 1,000 and I start to worry and can't enjoy it. This is why I put a limit of 1,000 on any watch I buy. It just seems silly to spend money and not enjoy and wear a watch.
  25. One question about the mm20 crown. I've seen a lot of vintage panerai pics and all I've seen have a crown similar to the fiddy, I'm not sure why the mm20 has a crown similar to a luminor.
