  1. The real pinnacle of this hobby in my opinion. very nice,,thanks.
  2. the belts look pretty good, gotta have a belt to match the strap........
  3. Nice collection. I don't believe people randomly order watches in thier display (my collection has a very "logical" order), here is my guess. most valued from top left to least bottom right?
  4. 183 on a carbon fiber strap. Yes, I need to shorten the stem a bit...
  5. Very cute pics, My 2 and a half year old daughter likes to wear my watches also. However, she likes to throw them at a wall when she is done. Now she only gets to wear my Invicta.
  6. I didn't see your first post,,,,some "professional" mess things up?
  7. IMO, getting a gen is worth it only because once you get it, it will take the mystery out of what it means to own a gen. I would buy it used, own it for a while and then ask yourself this very question over again. And then sell it (if you come to the same conclusion I did). If you buy it used it shouldn't cost you too much to explore this issue.
  8. Nice pics,,,,the DRSD is really calling me, and I'm a serious panerai freek. All I need is a drink or two and I'll probably end up getting one, thanks.
  9. The only time this happend for me was when my watch had direct contact with water. It really shouldn't be so bad you need a paper towel. Perhaps something happened in shipping and it experienced a rapid temp change? Good luck,,,,who knows, could be fine and never happen again. interesting idea using the silica,,,,,,,,,
  10. since I've had some back problems the last few days I thought leaning over a watch table would be the fix (lol). Anyway, I had a gen 6498 sitting around for a while and thought I would put it in my base after I attempted to age the hands and dial via some dark stain. My only first thought was, so what if the balance wheel is in another place and the keyless works seem "upside down" compared to the 6497. However, it turned out a few other things were waiting. The feet on the dial didn't work now so they had to be removed and the dial is now held down with glue "dial dots". But even after that, the case has grooves in it so you can put in the clamps to hold the movement down. Now, these were also totally out of wack. My solution was to put in larger screws and leave them mostly unscrewed, so the case back would hold it in via pressure. This worked to a degree but I think it twisted the dial a bit of center. This seems better than trying to drill new holes in the case. Oh well, here are a few pics. Also, I got the longer CP and HW from Davidsen's movement, it fit perfectly on the gen swiss 6498 and 6497 (I also had it on the 6497 previously).
  11. Very nice, but I would also be interested in one that just said "marina militare"
  12. thanks, great watch for the money. I just personally don't like the Russian movement even if it does look more like the vintage movement. I'm certainly no expert, but the one's I've worked on seem really inferior to even the asian 6497. No problems at all with the crown stem, this seems like a totally different deal than the 183.
  13. I had that happen after a fall (my daughter tossed one of my 6497s against the wall). If you can get the back off and give it a good shot of air (you don't want to use your breath because it has too much water) it might untangle the hairspring, at this point, it couldn't hurt it any more. At least for me, it untangled the hairspring and has worked perfect ever since. come to think of it, I would only do this if you have experience taking the back off. It would really be bad idea if you scratched up the back trying to get this off and then had two problems as opposed to just one.
  14. I think The Zigmeister had some pics somewhere on one of his pages (I could be wrong) , I remember it looked pretty bad, unfinished with glue everywhere.
  15. Its really good that you didn't make payment. If I ever got a 112 for that price I would be very worried something was going on. I don't think I've ever seen one less than 2800.
  16. interesting,,,,looks pretty good. I can't tell from the pics if it is a cap on the hands or just a longer CP and HW. Anyway, nice to see these are more common.
  17. I'll have this one on for a while, I used wood stain on the hands and put in a 6497 instead of the Russian. Now it just needs a good chunk of plastic for the crystal.
  18. Nice job with the tea, I can't tell which two at all. Here is a pic of one of the low end vintage models going around. I replaced the hands with davidsens capped hands after I stained them, which I think turned out pretty good. I also changed the movement and put in a 6497 which fit very nice. Its not great, but my first vintage attempt.
  19. The Chianti turned them a cool looking red, but not exactly vintage. I ended up getting a stain marker which looks very cool. Basically, I just stained them with a dark stain.
  20. No, not really but in my case the tube wasn't normally visable. If it was I would just tape it up before.
  21. Besides a pilot watch, my entire collection is now just different pannies. I get the same thoughts on trying something new, but it always comes down to trying a new panerai. Of couse, I can buy almost any new panerai and my wife doesn't notice because she thinks they all look the same.
  22. I have a case and tube from jimmy and just pressed it in by holding the movement and pushing the tube against my table. It didn't seem to take much pressure to put it in. to remove I just used a pair of pliers. I think most of the panerais are just pushed in, but some are actually screwed in so you have to be careful.
  23. Just for the hell of it,,,,,I have some of davidsen's gold fiddy hands soaking in some chianti. Should be interesting.
  24. Interesting. Do you mean that you just make some tea (black or green I guess) and paint it on the dial and hands?
  25. I thought this was a pretty cool OT idea and was really surprised by the results. I know some are very private with their poetry so the low number of entries didn’t surprise me too much (I did think there would at least a few more). But people on this forum do have lots of opinions and I thought they would express them in voting. Could it be that watch people are just not into poetry or abstract art? I'm not sure I buy that...anyway I enjoyed it.
