  1. I’m no expert but I would say you have a nice watch if these are your worst problems. Try to focus on what you like about it and then see if these things really matter...
  2. I spent the 80s trying to figure out eruption, spanish fly and solo to Mr Crowley. Seems kind of funny now, but when I pick up a guitar it is still the stuff I’m into. Perhaps I'll give this a try just for a change.
  3. and some come home not realizing that they didn't.
  4. There are two types of psychologist, some try to help people (like my wife) and are clinical psychologists. Others, like myself are just trying to figure out how the mind works (sometimes even the mind of those afflicted with obsessive hobbies). We do research, experiments and studies trying to solve the problems we find interesting so people call us experimental psychologist. For example, I can tell you that the data from this study so far, has yielded some interesting things behind our obsession. I hope to share these findings soon. And, Thanks to the over 200 people that took part in this study so far.
  5. Nice,,,looks great on that strap. I was so excited to take pictures when I got mine, my pics also have the blue stuff on the crown.
  6. One of my favorite descriptions of a WIS, is someone who takes off a 300m diver watch and puts it in their pocket because they got caught in the rain.
  7. Very nice project. Great choice on the movement and I prefer the gold hands, even on the luminor models.
  8. could be lots of things, however you might want to check to see if the screws that hold the movement to the case haven't become loose. If one of these gets unscrewed, it can go anywhere in the movement and do all kinds of things.
  9. Ok, you can let the comments fly, but I couldn’t help it. A skeletonized 6497 in a solid, large case. I couldn’t resist. And it's Ti, so it is light on top of all of this. Next week, I'll have another skeleton on the wrist from tourbillon1801.
  10. Thanks for the nice pictures, I like this even more but I guess the bracelet cannot be removed and replaced with a strap? That limits its versatility but still, next time I see this for 550, I be tempted enough to pick it up.
  11. I totally agree,,,,,but would add,,,,,,,,sometimes you have to learn to build it. I'm learning.
  12. Someone had it for sale on one of the forums for about 550 (usd), I was pretty serious about it but changed my mind at the last min, I'm not sure why. The bezel reminds me of a blancpain and the dial kind a reminds me of a pam, so I like it and need to add to my gens which are all about gone right now.
  13. Interesting, I think I am following this post. There is nothing actually wrong with the pallet being a [censored] as opposed to a bridge; this is just a good way to easily identify this movement. The real problem is how the hairspring is attached, which does look like a serious mod. Is there any reason you couldn’t just replace the entire balance assembly using another from a different movement? While this may not be good solution for everyone, I have an extra from a movement with other problems so it would work for me.
  14. Thanks for your review. I have mixed reactions to the bad news since my pam 249 seems to be one of these movements. On the one hand, I’ve always avoided any contact with the balance wheel and hairspring. I’ve removed and replaced the whole assembly, but this mod is a whole different story and intimidates me. On the other hand, there is a sense of trying something totally new and the reward of possibly pulling it off that is intriguing.
  15. About 5 years ago, invicta had really good service, however this has turned to crap lately. On the other hand, even panerai's customer service isn't very good. Omega is the same way. After I got a new seamaster the bezel had a problem after a month, I didn't see it for about 4 months or so. Most customer service sucks (except Joshua's of course). I try to look at the watch itself and forget about the name. If you are into this, I would suggest you get it. In the end, none of this watch buying is rational or makes sense, you just have to go with what feels right.
  16. I like some of them (in fact I have one on the way ), but this is true. I would sooner wear a rep into an AD, than an Invicta
  17. I have the newer one but need a new crown. Long story short, I need a new crown. who is selling this one with an ETA?
  18. I started out with lots of invictas, probably around 15 or so. There is a lot of variability with the brand so it is hard to say. Some are really nice, in fact, I just had that huge Russian diver with the skeletonized 6497 which was really excellent quality and a good watch for the money (IMO). On the other hand, some are total POS with thin crystals and terrible movements. Also, the limited ed doesn't mean much with that brand. However, if it is swiss made (which I'm guessing) it is probably decent. How much is it?
  19. It really doesn't get any better than that....
  20. those watches are incredible. IMO, the archetype of what this hobby is all about.
  21. with no dial are there special hands or is it simply that the min hand that holds it in place? I guess this is a question for any skeletonized movement and not just the 6497, that just happens to be the one I'm working on.
  22. That is an incredible watch. Absolutely stunning
  23. just to show how into this watch I am, I just recieved a 187 yesterday and will be putting it up for sale to fund this. This basically is a 1938a Retrospective watch co, but with a screw down crown (and a good quality one) and a clear case back and less than half the price. BTW, I also have Josh's 249. They are both needed in my world. The 249 with the bubble crystal and blue hands has a slightly different feel to it.
  24. Very nice, I should have mine in a day or two. I guess I'm going to attempt taking off the bezel markers and replacing them with an epoxy. After that,,,,this should be on of my favorites. I like the tan strap, I'll probably do that myself.
  25. My Lello crown has a spring as does Davidsen's.
