Trying my hand at painting T-dial patina...
w0lf replied to projectologist's topic in The Panerai Area
These dials are getting a new lease on life here! -
Love it, my favorite kind of post and thanks for awesome pics!

Not possible with a 29 case. Sub cases have a smaller rehaut and crystal, they would just fall through a 29 case. But even if everything was the right size and made for a 7750 movement, milling the ledges and groves for a ratcheting/slider assembly would require an extensive machining setup. A lot of trouble to go through for a $3500-4K gen.

Hello, I felt like building something different, something I never built before and it also had to be rare. I think this might be it, all business in the front and since it's a no-seconds movement I didn't bother with a high beat cosc-movement. This time lightbox photos first, build photos later. • Build pics:

Rolli, that looks like a PAM82, which is not what I was building.

Thanks fellas, means a lot coming from the forum greats Updated OP with better pics.

Thanks everyone, updated OP with better pics.

Thanks Miles. I didn't bother to change the lift angle from the default 52 so the amplitude reading is not that accurate.

Greetings! So I decided that the 4-liner MM needs a friend. I had built a 22B with a lumi dial before and I normally don't start the same build unless I can somehow improve on it or try a new technique. I hope this one is OK in that regard and in keeping with my new style, the writeup is going to be short and useless and the photos are going to be poor. I will take some fun out of this one though - yes, whole thing is genuine period correct parts aside from the movement which is a chrono grade eta6497.2 • Build pics:

This is the next step fellas. Dexter's dial is my current favorite.

Good news everyone! I'm building another PAM. Not really a summer watch per se, but for me - tobacco is always in season. Hope it turned out OK. *edit: it turned out OK. • Build pics:

So to keep this useful to a seasoned and novice member alike, the list is short and to the point. Observations are based on Perfect Clones' photos which are in fact good enough to see most of the important stuff. Meat & Potatoes: +Midcase geometry (since it's I-series, the lugs are chunky so this actually looks to be fine). +Bezel geometry (tall, good slopes, good engraving, maybe not quite as refined (slightly thicker) than genuine) +Crown, period correct, with good polishing of the knurled part, correct rim thickness and nice bevels. +Crown tube, period correct. +Caseback looks good, just very minor font kerning issues nothing too serious. +/-Pros: Superlume Cons: OEM lume does not glow like Predator's blood; if this is H-F's standard fare, it will be too bright. It's also a bit too white, I've only seen this almost pure white in much newer models. +/-Crownguard looks acceptable, Pros: non-roller lever, geometry Cons: overpolished on the edges of screw holes and inside edges of the crown cutout, chamfered corners. -Datefont too thin, just a bit too sunken and the datewindow looks to be in the 7750 position still so no ETA7753 swap with this dial. -Movement, no matter how many "1:1, interchangeable with genuine" statements you see on the site, the movement is not a true ETA7753 clone, the video shows that the date change starts at 10PM. -Date change pusher core is round, should be "hex" (or more correctly decagonal). -Cardinal dial markers are just a tad thinner than should be. Some things I can't see but I can assume based on experience with H-Factory watches: +Crystal and A/R, will be quite good -Case construction will not be OEM, the rehaut & the whole bezel will be press fit into the midcase insulated by a rubber o-ring gasket. Conclusion: What do you get for +$60 over the going rate for a corresponding 2010 Noob model? Better crystal & A/R. Superlume (even if too bright and not entirely correct color, feels like it's a welcome feature). Better, period correct crown, crown tube and crownguard lever. Some areas that needed to be addressed (crownguard, datewindow position, movement) are still off, while in other areas there's even a step back (datechange pusher, cardinal marker thickness). All this considering we've had the Noobs on the market for close to 3 years does not constitute an improvement to warrant additional cost in my opinion.

Maybe its British Humour or maybe its just funny ...?

Post photos, so we can judge the condition and authenticity.

Awesome work, is case engraving possible with this setup?
-
Check with DSN, he makes sterile homages so he should have some blanks.

JimmyzFu Luminor cases, ca. 2005 came with an OEM quality display caseback with no engraving. The crystal was mineral though but as thick as the OEM glass so the current crop of H-Factory and N-Factory sapphire backs can likely be used as a sapphire donor. Post a WTB and maybe someone has one they are willing to part with.
