  1. I'm as particular as they come but we've arrived at the point of diminishing returns for anything other than a movement service and a relume for these models. If the CG is bothering you, swap the o-ring gasket in the crown for a thinner one to get the lever under control. Maybe mill and polish the top of CG pin flat and give it a bit of a bend to get it to sit more flush with the case. Other than that - no need to bother.
  2. I'm with W. on this. It just works out that all of my builds after awhile go to friends. Even the 1st watch I ever sold (Flav's 111 homage) has a bit of a story to it.
  3. Doc, I think the rodico is holding the dismantled munute hand over the dial to show the contrast of lumed vs unlumed hour hand.
  4. Wow, what a dramatic difference, and the glow color looks very gen-like! Amazing job on the 6 o'clock subdial
  5. I want in, put me on the list as well if I'm not yet on the list. What would be the best case for this?
  6. I agree, the new daylights bracelet is awesome, tapered well made and old style CG design.
  7. Freddy, Yes, it's indisputable. I guess I have to expound a bit on what I meant by this. Vintage everything is at its peak in popularity, it permeates every cultural medium and is rapidly becoming a consumer "must have" with pretentious tw4ts lining up to raid salvation army stores and antique shops for vintage levis, cowboy boots, old tin toys, desk clocks, pocket watches, vintage rolexes, etc. And what they may lack in knowledge they more then make up for with persistence and numbers, like crows looking for shiny things.
  8. T, Perfect! Classic non-spring loaded, 1.2mm tap + 0.8mm dish + not overpolished = winner! Thanks very much
  9. Classy! I can never get enough of your photography and collection
  10. Sorry, I don't have mine back yet so I can't take the pic but the notch is small like the OEM case. The bezel also has a service gap, overall I think this is among the closest case repro's I've seen.
  11. Thanks for the generous offer, B. I'd like to see if the classic crown is going to happen using the new mfg. process with no overpolishing. Yes, I checked with T about a month or so ago and there's actually an ongoing update in his "T's Genuine Watch Movements" section on RG where he's stating repeatedly since Dec. 2009 that 1.2mm tap T48 in stainless steel is sold out. No, there's not enough room for adapter when using ETA6497 or its clones, you actually need a custom stem re-threaded down from 1.2mm to 0.9mm
  12. The .9 tap ones are readily available in classic non-springloaded, the whole lineup Ti, PVD, SS. The MIA one is the 1.2mm tap.
  13. No, B, the 1.2 tap has been out of stock for about a year.
  14. Love it! But you already know this by now ) P.S. What Pete is talking about would involve milling CG's feet in order to bring it closer to the case so that the crown is pressed in more tightly. Not a trivial task, as you have to keep the surface perfectly flat and sloping at ~10
  15. T, In this case can you please bring back your classic non spring loaded crown design with deep dish? If you can produce those crowns without over-polished teeth same way you did with SLT48 it will be a winner for everyone. I think 1.2mm is the one everyone is looking for. In my humble opinion the spring loading mechanism is nice but is not necessary in the rep game. If you cut the stem right, use gaskets and have a good CG - spring loaded or not you'll have a good seal and vice versa if your other parts are not up to par, spring loaded crown is not going to save you. It's nice on paper but creates many difficulties for both the manufacturer and user.
  16. Well, the caps themselves won't solve your problem. You also need to shorten the pinion if my understanding is correct.
  17. Eton, If this turns out to be the case then it's another example of a good thing going bad over time. It might mean that the old crystal is no longer available and I think it would make a perfect combo with a bold datewheel like the Taka's upcoming 2892 datewheel to be used in all of the 6mm cyclops builds (23,27,28,29,57,63).
  18. I made an additional observation but I need to make sure I'm not seeing things. It could just be Heisenberg uncertainty principle at work here... After looking at the new offerings once more I'm now wondering if DSN is using a brand new crystal yet again. Since the ETA28xx date window placement is the same across the range of movements I'm surprised why David didn't just use the same crystal he used on his PR models 27,28 & 57 on the new 23 & 63? Clearly the mag of the cyclops didn't change but the crystal looks different. The cyclops looks to be slightly larger than 6mm and not centered unlike the dead-on appearance of his older crystal on PR models. Any insights?
  19. Nope, not at all, those are all about intrinsic value, so much more than just a watch...
  20. Well, then the goal is relatively simple fellas - introduce and subsequently become the exclusive purveyor of the next special-edition-limited a-list merchandise to the uberstinking rich while making them feel like they're a part of a very exclusive club. If you want to take it to the next step while making it interesting - diversify your front end, i.e. create multiple, seemingly competing brands in order to steer the market niche toward the most profitable marque. Rinse and repeat.
  21. Awesome news! Once again, a big big thank you to The Zigmeister for his awesome work! I plan to wear this watch for a long time so if anyone's interested I can check in via this thread at 3,6,12,24 etc. month mark and report how it's running but I have a hunch it'll be pretty much the same as in the first 7 days
