Sander, I'm not so keen on DSN getting the cyclops placement and mag correct so I sourced a PAM199 Ultimate with the incorrect old v1 6mm cyclops. The Ultimates factory used to make its v1 199 with a 6mm cyclops. You can still see it on Angus site but around 8-10 months ago the factory switched to the correct 7mm one and that's the one you will get if you order a 199 from any dealer today. The distinguishing characteristic of the v1 with a 6mm cyclops is it's overly green lume, hands and dial matching. The new version has several improvements, the lume is not super green and the hands are lighter than the dial, apparently to simulate the patina effect. Another improvement on the new model is very nicely decorated A7750 movement with engine turning crisply engraved rotor and now a micro-regulator. Not to mention that while still not perfect the midcase of the cartel Sub is heads and shoulders above DSN's morbidly obese case. I had my dealer ask the factory to make one-off Ultimate 199 latest version but install the old v1 crystal with cyclops. My plan is to attempt a transplant of the DSN bezel and if it fails turn this 199 into a transitional 24D without bucket rings around chapter markers.

quite the opposite, the gen has a 6mm cyclops.

E, You're not on the short exotics list because your straps hold a very special value to me. It's not even the strap itself but rather the concept and the emotional content that is important. I just don't think I can't pull it off properly. It seems so much more at home under the Nicaraguan sun in a Hemingwayesque setting rather than under fluorescent bulbs of an office. But I hope this will all change some day

I find that older OEM straps with horizontal embossed "OFFICINE PANERAI" on the long end, vertical "MADE IN AUSTRIA" and "C" over the fixed keeper on the buckle end are the most comfortable of all OEM straps. I believe they ended with E series. For aftermarket my list is very short Kaktus, Simona, Dirk and ABP for exotics.

Here's my former DSN27A with Leo DW installed: And here's how it compares to stock DSN datewheel:
-
Lello datewheel font is bolder than Leo, it also seems like it's not aligned all that well which was not uncommon with Lello. You need to get a Leo datewheel to fix this or you can experiment with removing the datewheel lens on the movement. You can also try to make SSSurfer cyclops and combine it with a regular crystal, he posted a full guide on how to make his cyclops on RG.

David confirmed that new crystals with 6mm cyclops are coming in 2 months.

Last time a gen A CG was for sale it was $650 and sold right away.

Doc, Believe it or not there was a rep CG with bead-blasting on the lever at some point. I was working on a CG/pin mod for a friend of mine, as I recall it was a PAM1B with an old school case. That watch had one of the best looking rep CGs, even the lever came blasted. I actually saved the picture:
-
Doc, You can always post pics and we'll help you figure out what's suitable and what's not. Also, I think this photo from Martin Wilmsen illustrates everything I described above. On the top is a PAM02A with a contemporary crown guard and bead-blasted lever, and on the bottom is a PAM000 with a historic crown guard.
-
There are no completely flat top CGs. The PreA, A~F CGs are the same type of CG with roughly 1mm above the lever and 2mm below the lever. They have a slight taper on top which accounts for about .3mm raise in its thickest part (inner part of CG feet) to match the curve of the side of the case. PreA, A and B transitional CGs' lever finish is different from B~F CGs, the former have micro bead blasted finish and the latter have the horizontally brushed finish.

It'll be the only cardinal marker they will get correct on the dial

Many have tried. It's not a simple undertaking.

Opinions requested on how to use five 44mm PAM cases
w0lf replied to Drulee's topic in The Panerai Area
Well you can always trade or sell it. -
PreV CGs are called historic, they come with a larger taper on top. There's a gray area with 5218-209 & -210 but otherwise all other PreV models that come with a crownguard should be historic. Best rep example is LH CG. Not really a problem sourcing this style CG as Toro, Snembo, WSO990, LH and an occasion V historics can be found. PreA, A - F and some special editions are what's called a contemporary style CG. Best rep example is JimmyzFu CG. This is the style of CG that's really hard to source. Coincidentally many of our beloved models like the 01, 02, 03, 04, 09, 10, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 55, 57, 61, 63, and many others come with this CG.

Snrubb, Well, it really varies quite a lot and depends, I guess, on how the watch is worn, serviced, etc. Example: Palani has a 24C and it still glows quite noticeably but I've seen a 24E whose dial doesn't glow and only the hands glow slightly. DSN's lume mix on this is the same as on his 27a which I'm familiar with so it glows really faintly.

Thanks, Digi. Show us some more pictures when you have the time. Cheers!

digisquid, Do you mind sharing who the trusted dealer is?
-
That's a tough one as it's a 1950 style submersible crown. DSN should have spring loaded ones for 127/217 series of watches and it should fit over your existing 1.2mm stem but I would get a spare one just in case. The jury is still out on whether the crown will look right on a sub. Just out of curiosity, did you buy this from a dealer or 2nd hand. I thought those were long discontinued.

This watch needs many things but a relume is not one of them. The dial is great as is.

In the first three - use the middle one for any contemporary build, toss the other two. I'm assuming the middle case is the same auto case you posted last time you asked this question. If it's milled for 7750 use it for an older series 104E-F/88D~F (but polish the midcase), 164F (use as is) or 86D-E (brush the bezel). Out of the duo - use the top case for a PreV project - it's the old cartel / EL case. Drill out the left side lugs, use Aussie preV strap pins, get DSN's PAM1A crystal, EL or Jakob's caseback, LH crownguard, FGD dial and hands, Ofrei ETA6497-1 and optionally Zigg-y's PVD. You can make 5218-201/A, -202/A (PVD), -203/A (PVD), -205/A, -218/A (PVD) -
I don't think it's likely to happen again due to lack of 2893 movements.

New 1680 White....Great!...But bad gasket...Arrrgh!
w0lf replied to btocamelo's topic in The Rolex Area
PM JMB, he can machine a retention ring for these to install clark or gen crystal. -
Andy, I'm sure JMB has all of this sorted since 1) I know he can re-tap a case 2) This thread is from almost a year ago.

Here is the old Eddie Lee Pam111. What mods are needed to make it peferct?
w0lf replied to dvn's topic in The Panerai Area
Tutima, Yes, the B solid caseback would be appropriate. You have period-correct sausage "L SWISS L" dial, contemporary style polished crownguard, contemporary hands and the A/R has already been stripped - all of which are correct for 1B.
