  1. Saabin's long gone unfortunately, a big loss IMO. Recall he popped his head round the door a couple of years ago out of the blue, but then crawled back under his autoparts machine shop rock where he'd been hiding, never to return since. I had some contact details for him somewhere but that would at least one HD generation ago so somewhere floating about my backup system. The bezel should be an easy DIY reaffix unless you've warped or damaged it, but the movt I'd get professionally looked at. Don't see why you couldn't decase it and get your jeweller to look at it, it's gen movt I take it?
  2. Don't take it personally Libby, Not the first time Nanuq's made that "mistake" I'm sure, you know these remote country folk *banjo twanging* Can't help you with a NYC contact, but what exactly is the damage on your GMT, maybe we can help anyway?
  3. Cats, only a few hours left.... I've kept an eye on it myself, but decided not to pursue so just to let you know, you have a clear run at it from an RWG perspective Good luck!
  4. Interesting reminder. So did Chief ever confirm if it was possible to do this, and mask off the crystal applying the AR coating only to the underside area overshadowed by the cyclops? I was one of the cyclops guinea pigs, so obviously I'd love to see a solution even now over a year on - I still think it's one of the big two 'tells' between the rep and gen having seen/handled both on a regular basis.
  5. My 192 has a Lello crown fitted - and I can confirm the Seagull movt takes a 0.9mm thread. Not sure about T's crowns though, although you can easily get 0.9-1.2 adapters anyway. Teeth wise, I'd suggest sticking to 48. The T60 is not as we know, accurate and although they look very good on Daylights with the same chrono case as the 192, I still think the 48 is the way to go on the Tanti.
  6. What Sub do you have? Noob? MBW/K? etc. Fairly certain the gen crystal (your ref is correct) will fit most types but you should confirm that with others first. Just don't press it in with a hockey puck
  7. Sorry but that's not strictly true. "Some months" ago? Try a few WEEKS ago at best. Watch only went on sale August 12 here in Europe (I got invite to Omega Boutique event), and the following week in Asia (exclusive to Hour Glass). End of year is still the ETA for this project I believe, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it slip into 2010. As long as it's before CNY, I wouldn't mind personally.
  8. MF straps ARE excellent. Deserve to adorn a better Fiddy than that though, no offence.
  9. Pretty sure Mr Slimeball in Texas sells them. Although you should not take that as any sort of endorsement obviously, but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures... I've been looking for a Speedy Moon insert myself for a couple of years - but a rare 'pulsations' type as opposed to the standard tachy.
  10. Sure it's possible to modify a slow-beat movt to run a GMT function, but it requires watchmaker's skill ("swapping some parts around" makes it sound much easier than it is) and even then it's not exactly ultra-reliable. RepAustria did it on a 1655 I remember. But for the majority of 1655 reps using a 2836, the 28.8k bph is noticeably much faster/smoother than the gen. calibre.
  11. Can someone who's bought one of these, for the love of god, please confirm where the running (ok, 'ticking') secs is located TIA
  12. Looking at the ravaged features of that dial I'd say it was more of a 'Keith Richards' 6538 to be honest
  13. The 217 was a special edition specifically designed as a destro (lefty). The 127 ('1950' model or so-called "Fiddy") is the nearest equivalent RH version, although IMO completely lacking the heritage and thus character of the 217. I love my modded EL-case 217 and wouldn't trade it for the world.
  14. Ok no problem Didn't realise you were intending to bid, just thought you'd spotted something you thought suspicious from your title "gen or fake" Best of luck bidding, as I said before, I can vouch for the seller.
  15. Reminds me of a quote from a favourite film... "Hang on tightly, let go lightly..."
  16. Your dad has a beauty there, clearly seen some 'action' judging by the case, but some people like 'em like that. I'm also not so sure that's an aftermarket crystal, not a recent one anyway - has that very distinctive blur to the cyclops, usually seen on old and thus original T116s.
  17. Don't understand the reason for the query to be honest - it's gen. A generic TRL sticker is sometimes put on after service by watchmakers. And that's before I even noticed the seller - who I know well - and he's as above board as they come.
  18. Ha! A mere month? Try twenty-four of those on for size and still counting To rub salt in the wound I've already found it, my dream 1675, but the problem is that it's not exactly for sale p.s. Jojo - what a stunning gilt example, a rare beast indeed. I don't even want to think about what you paid, just cherish and enjoy.
  19. Of course, as is always the problem for a super-accurate 1655 (and 1675), you really have to pony up for a gen.c.1575 as there isn't an alternative slow-beat GMT movement available. Any modded ETA 2836 or even the true GMT 2893 just beats too highly, and thus seconds too smoothly, to pass as gen on inspection. An accurate and realistically priced case set would be still be very welcome though, as it would provide a decent base for the average hobbyist.
  20. Lani, if you're talking about DW, then that's not strictly true. I understood it as he was making a copy of the Viet rep cases.
  21. On reflection, I think that's very possible, in which case I apologise for my comments Normally I'm not a fan of those attributes either, but as a 'beater', this has great potential - as long as the running (ok, "ticking") secs are on a subdial. Still uncomfirmed as yet.
  22. Fair enough, but my comment was aimed more at your (very recently acquired) opinion of "nothing beats a/my gen" in this case, even suggesting the woeful Reduced auto model in preference to the classic old Venus-powered rep, which at one time you loved. An auto on a Speedy is equally heretical in my opinion, and that's not to even mention that the gen auto c.3313 is a complete POS. Thing is I don't disagree about the classic gen 'Moon' Speedy Pro, except I'd have been a little less, well... superior, in my comments about this rep quartz that's all. Never mind the photos, its a lovely-looking watch at a fantastic price, so it's not difficult to be gracious about it.
  23. But to ask again, where is the running secs? Main 'chrono' or subdial?
  24. It's a gen Tudor, not sure where you got "franken Rolex" from? http://www.tudorwatch.com/
