  1. Sorry but I find it cringeworthy. A date function on a Speedy Moon is just wrong. As is sapphire. And an automatic movement applies the final urination on the heritage, never mind the fact the rotor looks like it's one of Guangzhou's finest. God I almost forgot...44mm, sweet jesus no. For similar money, you can get a 50th anni '1957' Speedy, with retro insignia, enamel dial, and a lovely co-axial manual movement (c.3201) all in a perfect 42mm sized case.
  2. Looking at the best photos (first few), and the second photo in particular at the 10 index, I'd say you're still a tiny bit too grey.... Maybe try 50:50, but it's getting there and looking VERY good. As for cyclops, since it's off I'd leave it off. The gen has a strong AR effect that has so far foxed all who've tried to replicate it, so you're just drawing attention to another flaw. Plus many gen owners hate the look of cyclopses and have them removed anyway - not that uncommon and so could be your 'line'. It's also an OCD sufferer's nightmare trying to keep the crystal clean, what with all the dust and lint that gather around the cyclops border.
  3. The Sea Rambler.....what a great name How does one "ramble" in the big blue then? I can understand 'Dweller' or 'Racer' but 'Rambler'? Sounds like the the perfect watch for a Scoutmaster, eh Nanuq? Couple of things....is that silver dial naturally aged or is that some water damage I see? Also check out that caseback o-ring My god, the rubber on my 18" alloys isn't much thicker. Lovely-looking piece though, especially on that ricebead bracelet. Case shape is very Autavia-like which I love. A very affordable alternative to the similarly styled and equally gorgeous Ploprof on sharkproof bracelet.
  4. Anyone have any ideas where I can source an aftermarket set (hr/min/small sec) of matte silver hands for a PAM project? Used to be a few sellers about, not least Jimmy Fu, but the only option on fleabay these days is Mr Slimeball - he has polished hands, that's even if you get anything from him at all. All suggestions greatly appreciated. TIA, DBR
  5. As has already been said, this is the one rep (ok maybe alongside its 1655 sibling) that sums up the saying (coined by Ubi I think?)... "Buy gen as no rep will make you happy" Of course, that decision alone is just the easy bit. If you're as anal-retentive and particular about detail as I am, finding your "perfect" gen is by no means an easy task either.
  6. Err, that's a wristie? Maybe if you're Mr Magoo Pull back on that old zoom a little and let Steve appreciate it from afar.
  7. No wrist shots handy (on my phone right now) but I got mine the same time and in comms with Lani, after coming within a whisker of buying the gen. The gen version I wanted (SS arabic dial) I just couldn't source, and then as luck would have it the new rep became available and *bingo*. One of the sleeper hits of last year, it's just a fantastic piece. Just buy it and you'll not regret it trust me.
  8. The gen deployant strap (with either white or orange stitch) is rubber, so no calfskin strap will match particularly well. Closest I've seen is the coated 'bull' leather Omega strap from Official Time which I originally bought way back for my Speedy.
  9. Lovely piece and brings back memories. I remember ordering the 27A back in the day (most expensive rep at that time pre-Honpo's 187), and receiving the 28 by mistake. No problem, received a local forwarding address and my 27 a few days later. Both were equally gorgeous, I even had a Europelli Shell Cordovan with matching Luminova-coloured stitch ready and waiting for the 27, but in the end I just couldn't 'bond' with it. No need for the sales/trade forums in those days as Eddie happily exchanged it for a 192 plus a credit (which I used on a 217 eventually), both of which I still love to this very day. He was just like that, if you got on with him, it was like a mate selling you something and wanting you to enjoy it. Very different to today's more commercial dealers.
  10. Saw it myself but since the 45mmm bezel will not fit on the UPO (unlike the 42 on the POrikaa) and the insert is cosmetically flawed, then I just thought 'meh'.
  11. Thick or thin font on your rep doesn't make a huge deal of difference as the gen lies somewhere in between. However the colour of the markers is a biggish tell - silvery grey on the rep, silvery white on the gen. Must look at what shades of white metallic enamel paint are available, then armed with a small brush, paint remover and a lint-free cloth, rectify that flaw. Probably best effect will be on the thin insert, as the whiter colour will optically 'enlarge' the font. Unfortunately I have the early limited CHS version which means thick font, but willing to give it a go anyway. And swapping out the DW for a gen as overlay (another big difference IMO) Still that pesky cyclops to deal with though
  12. Or something else maybe. Like double cream
  13. Good luck. I procured a spare case when I first bought my 187 from EL for just this eventuality. If it was a 5 you were looking for then I'd help but a lone 4 sorry. Screwed is a fair bet as I've seen a lot of people post this exact WTB over the last few years with no luck. Suggest you contact a dealer and swallow the 80-100 price for a current case set. Oh and spend 5 more and buy some epoxy.
  14. I once bought RAM from Apple. Or rather I should specify, I made my previous employers do so for my benefit Hilarious really. As soon as you spec extra RAM, it becomes a BTO order whereupon your machine is shipped to another location to be "custom built". If the 3x extra cost doesn't do it for you, the extra 3 week wait will. Oh and not to mention you can't return the unit for refund or exchange as it's a BTO. Genius.
  15. I disagree - its guts are poking out slightly, and no amount of painting black will really hide that fact so just leave it be, gives it a certain je ne c'est quoi I would however try to tidy up the slightly ratty edges on the dial where you've had to open her up - there I think some black paint could come in useful to hide the glint of bare brass/metal.
  16. Having always used Macs, I'm always surprised by this 'mistake', but seems to be an increasingly common one. Anyway some vaguely interesting info on the origin of the Mac name Mac <- Macintosh <- McIntosh apples (where Jobs and Woz derived the product name from since they had a company called Apple) <- John McIntosh <- McIntosh surname <- "Mac an toshach" <- "Son of the Chief"
  17. Matching watch and 'links? Ok ok not quite what we're talking about. So going upmarket then, there's always THIS combo... Very nice you'll agree, but then IMO nothing beats the perfect 'match'....
  18. That Corty with GG dial just gets my salivary glands all juiced up Sapphire is an interesting look on a 6152/1, hardly vintage of course but gives it a 'reissue' appearance, much like the 203.
  19. Just curious, where did you get that bracelet from? Standard rep brushed? Looks nicely tapered 24/22? Or 24/20?
  20. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Same stuff, different name
