  1. You've been around long enough and you didn't know? Seriously? He's practically infamous. p.s. on a completely separate topic, did you get to any matches or events last week?
  2. I also use RAW (pointless not to if you have a Leica) and yes my Aperture library is a big 'un. But I religiously take off onto one of several externals (and my TC for remote access), every couple of months. As you know well, leaving such a small % of HD capacity free will cause your machine to slow down more than anything. As for the donkey porn, yeah nice try to deflect your depraved nature, but let's not forget it wasn't me who went AWOL for 12 months citing "other interests"
  3. So you're giving the old tried and trusted Norwegian Formula a miss then? I mean fair enough, it's 80% whale semen and 20% walrus blubber extract, but I've heard it does the job
  4. Incidentally if anyone's interested, by the most effective and long-lasting antiperspirant (thus deodorant) product available is this....
  5. Is that like the English version of Ross & Bell?
  6. Well for not much more than the price of the MB, you can have the MBA with 128GB SSD as standard, and if you wait a couple of months I believe 256GB will be a BTO. It's like night and day, the difference between HDD and SSD. Plus, SSD prices are dropping faster than house prices, and Apple recently signed a massive deal with Samsung, so Apple customers can expect to reap the benefits there. I'm just so done with HDDs, can't ever go back. Even adapted my Cube to use one - a fitting and elegant solution considering the standard lack of space and heat issues. Have you considered that maybe you just need less crap? That infamous donkey porn collection of yours for example Quality over quantity, size isn't everything, etc etc.
  7. Pretty sure the SSD big boys (Samsung, Intel, Toshiba) have released a 512GB SSD, and there's a couple of others (OCZ) that have broken the 1TB barrier without any noticeable throttling. At that point, there's no justification for HDD, as you can just have a RAID setup - just think of the lightning fast R/W speeds, low -power, and ultra-reliability. Only factor is cost. Anyway, I think the arrival of the home server is not too far off - can see me having some type of domestic Xserve at some point in the next few years.
  8. Too common this experience. I say name and shame Ubi. If I was in your shoes and hadn't yet sent it, I'd be inclined not to and make him whistle for it. Can't stand bad manners, definitely the eighth deadly sin. Sadly it's all too common in daily life now, so not surprising that is reflected here.
  9. Verbatim eh? Well just glad to see you're getting decent care at last. Are you at the Straub just out of interest? I'll drop you an email about your meds and a couple of other things tomorrow
  10. Ha ha, I was just teasing being Paris Me too - that is off the agenda, I've said she can have diamonds but only if attached to a watch dial and/or bezel As for the Carbon Arte, no I didn't mate - and to be honest I'm glad I didn't irrespective of price. My iPhone serves as my work phone and more than meets my needs elsewhere, and my 'old' classic 5 year old 8800 is still my personal phone, gorgeous as ever and the new 6X battery pretty much eradicating the old problem. In the end I just loved it too much to make it redundant by buying the Carbon. Instead I picked up the limited edition OEM Ti-look casing in case I ever feel the need to change the look slightly.
  11. Easy there tiger. That's $800 for an aftermarket case and caseback only. Add (approx. costs) $50 for aftermarket hands, $100 for a gen crystal, $200 for an aftermarket dial (more for a decent one), gen movt around $1000-1500 for a c.1575, and you're well up in the $2k range.
  12. Good for you, decision made and I honestly think you won't regret it. And yes resale is a big factor to consider as well. Ignore the willy-wavers and just enjoy your new machine As much as personally I'm firmly entrenched in the Cupertino camp, at the end of the day, whatever platform, they're just TOOLS - you use them to do a job, with the minimum of fuss and effort in a way that you like and which suits you best. I think certain people lose sight of that. The 1TB Time Capsule is what you want (Time Machine is the software app that handles your backups) and security is as expected for this level of civilian product. But as always be aware of what you're storing and accessing remotely; i.e. fine to use for photos, files, music, movies etc. but I wouldn't store any files with personal confidential, financials etc. on there. Use your HD. Oh and if you're getting a laptop (MB/MBP/MBA) I'd REALLY recommend sporting that bit extra for a solid state drive (SSD).
  13. What a [censored] time you've had of it R, but really glad to see you back with us. Just remember, as with anything of this nature, take your recovery seriously. The antivirals will have done the job, but irrespective of your previous baseline of fit and healthy, your organs will have taken an immunological battering, cardiac and renal especially, and so you'll need careful rehab. In other words, one day at a time, my friend.
  14. Nice Freddy, very nice. Bar-raising once again. Is that a MY round font insert I see? Understandable you don't want to bleach it, but there are milder, more controlled methods to achieve the look you want. p.s. who's this Ming Quai when he's at home - feel free to email me if you don't want to post it openly
  15. The blue-purple tint on the AR crystal of the black dial one gives it away as the rep. Also, my eagle eye says the blue dial is just that tad bit sharper in detail (subdials) and the crown teeth look better defined.
  16. I'm sure we will my friend. You know, I know Paris like the back of my hand having spent a lot of time there both living/working part of the week last year and countless visits as a tourist - but as Pugs said, your pics still make me miss it. Shame you missed the Pompidou centre, next time you'll know. Oh and I like the way you dodged my question about you know what
  17. I believe they'll only ship to Japan addresses, so I'd assume if you can speak a little Japanese (to confirm via email), then you should be able to order and have it delivered to wherever you're staying, hotel or otherwise. If you do, will you be taking a couple of 'side orders'? I think you may find yourself unusually popular very soon Whatever, enjoy your trip to such a fascinating country.
  18. Ah ok, now that's better - there's a couple more versions out. When I noticed last week I could only see this type with all polished bracelet http://www.jpc8118.com/0000000tglld01066-link-ladies-ssss-diam-mblue-diam-sqtz-pi-6751.html?image=5 Even without CZs, that bezel 'pearl' looks ratty. Gens are a very decent price also.
  19. Ahhh, Pareee et l'amour.....but what, no happy ending involving something carbon and sparkly? You know her in tears of joy, you in tears of despair thinking of your poor melted VISA card? As usual Maciek, great stuff We should definitely make you the RWG Resident Travel Correspondent, you really have a way of bringing these trips to life for the reader. The missus helps too I'm only sorry that we passed like ships in the night 24 hrs apart in Barcelona last summer. Maybe next year eh.
  20. Agree with M, the CZ's all round the bezel just look cheap 'n' nasty - as dial markers, fine, but not bezel. And the rep plain bezel itself looks very poorly finished. Not a big fan of the polished bracelet either on gen, needs to be brushed, or like the Aquaracer, alternate.
  21. It's a nice-looking watch and a good price, but it's way off in terms of accuracy to the gen LE BR-02. This rep has an outsize case size (45 compared to gen's 44), has a SS finish (instead of PVD), the blue indices on the Pro dial are slightly off in colour, hands don't match, inner bezel doesn't match, the HeV is not even close to accurate, no appreciable AR (gen has strong/double AR), and the rubber strap is pretty awful, all soft, oversized and of course, a dust-magnet. The much more accurate rep in every sense (as in can pass for gen) is this baby which comes in under $300...
  22. My god, you actually took her down this year? And she FLOODED?! I can just imagine you now, dripping wet, handing it over in the AD, all kitted out in Deliverance-style lumberjack and 'skins gear and gently "resting" your chainsaw and icepick on the counter whilst you explained your 'requests' Seriously though, we all know official RSCs are now the very last people to acknowledge and appreciate the value of their own heritage, treating purists as almost weirdo perverts for wanting to keep their 'old' watches in original spec. They think of themselves as this.... When the reality is much closer to this....
  23. *adopts Austin Powers persona* "Yeah baby yeah.....groovy eh? And get a hold of that LENGTH darling!
  24. The cost now for a 1665 service? A big fat ZERO..... Why? Because RSC won't "officially" service a 1570 or indeed any c.15xx movements anymore Looking at the manifest though I admit I'm surprised it's so expensive relatively speaking, aside from the fairly fixed prices for parts. Not at all dissimilar to the magnitude of what a current service appointment costs, which suggests to me that even with the replacement crystal lumped in there, there may have been some unitemised minor surgery required as part of the movt service (wheels, etc.). However, the owner of that manifest must be kicking themselves now. Can't make out the serial but whether DR or GW by allowing that part swap, the dial especially, they've probably knocked a four figure sum off the value
  25. Touché! I get by mate, I get by.... How's the deodorant working out anyway? Masking the scent of your mistress? Look forward to the inevitable weekend thread....."Guys, What Toothpaste Do You Use?"
