  1. Since I'm ill at home and therefore incredibly bored, here's my own assessment of how things will shake down in the last 16..... Firstly, couldn't put it better myself JTB - certain teams always play better as underdogs, and at this stage it's all about strength, tenacity and character. For me, Barca are no great shakes without the departed Larsson and injured Eto'o, and as yesterday's defeat in Tokyo showed, keep it tight, put it 'up them', and they'll fold. No disrespect to anyone but this is by far THE tie of the round - the past two year's winners with plenty of links and some (friendly) scores to settle on both sides. I plan on being there for both legs and fancy someone like Johnny Riise, Agger or Gonzalez to pop up and be the conquering hero. Tonton, Chronus and Admin - PM me about the GTG we talked about last month Milan are indeed a shadow of their former selves - IMO Celtic will never have a better opportunity to claim a glorious scalp and progress - they need a clean sheet at Parkhead though to have any chance I feel. Unlike JTB I can't claim not to care about the other English teams - I really hope that Lille somehow play out of their skins and beat Scum, preferably by a late and painful away goal. Not (just) because I hate Scum, but I really believe they do not deserve such an easy tie given their pathetic displays in the group - losing to a fired-up Celtic is one thing but Kobenhavn??? And now their so-called league form at home has finally taken a dip (now the fixture list is starting to balance out), the cracks are starting to show. I'd also like to see Porto beat Chelsea - far from impossible - if only to get Mourinho the big boot up his [censored] he so sorely deserves. Oh and to once and for all rid us of the media-perpetuated myth that Fat Frank Lampard is world class . Unfortunately, I concede they have too much quality for the Portuguese and they will likely progress. Arsenal - well I know Ape is reading this so I'll be kind - but unlike events at Anfield given similar results this season, I see some truly worrying signs coming out of the Emirates, not just inconsistent form but low morale generally. Henry is whingeing about leaving again (just GO for god's sake man!) and Wenger seems hell bent on reclaiming the most obnoxious manager award from his counterpart at Stamford Bridge. Not the best preparation for a Champions League tie with PSV who will present a more difficult proposition than the side Liverpool beat in the group stage. More than probably any other team, Real really need the two months' break and try to sort themselves out. Ditch Beckham in the Jan transfer window, give Guti his position supplying Van Horseface, also cut out the other dead wood no matter how expensive the dead wood was, and they may, just may have a chance at progressing. But don't hold your breath. Lyon - I sense they will once again flatter to deceive and fold when it matters most - hopefully not at this stage though as I said previously, I believe fate will bring Ged back to Anfield this year - it is almost the perfect QF . Oh and as I have predicted all along, right from the start, Valencia will go a long way in this year's tournament. The rest? Meh.....
  2. Pretty much but not quite - I have an A6 Omega promo booklet with all the casino characters in - Madam Wu has a gold Constellation, dealer has a red-dialled Schumacher Speedy, Felix Leiter has what looks like a Railmaster...however, Le Chiffre clearly has an FM Conquistador chrono on mesh/mini-links bracelet....another not-so-subtle hint at his sexuality methinks
  3. I think you'll find IWW does NOT do works on reps anymore.
  4. You know it's what many of us Reds feared but now it's happened, I say BRING IT ON!!!!! I suspect Barca won't be overjoyed either - both teams are dangerous. Hopefully Sammy Eto'o will not be fit for at least the first leg (he'll be joining us in summer anyway, ooops you didn't hear that ), but just think if we do them like we did Juventus and Milan, then we'll go all the way to Athens. Number 6 calls Annoying though as Scum have bought...drawn the easiest draw, very undeserved after their pathetic performances in the group stages. Gooners (Arsenal) get a fairly easy ride in PSV. Interesting one for Mourinho getting Porto, his former team will be fired up for that one - again a potential P45 (unemployment slip) waiting I fear for Celtic though - I really hope they catch Milan in poor form - it's not impossible and I would like to see it just for JTB's sake Regardless they've got nothing to lose. As for the others, there's some cracking matches ahead - truly the big boy stages - Real vs Bayern will be interesting, just hope it's not a snoozefest . Lyon will progress as will Valencia - the Spaniards are my 'dark horse' this year
  5. Nice one BT I also had to deal with Discovery on the Aquaracer poll thread, begging me to tell him "why it was so special?" Special??? Now what's all that about? "Special needs" more like Call a spade a spade I say....hell I even accused my friend Puggy and his IWC-acolytes of being nerds/geeks
  6. I think this thread is 'gay' now
  7. Sure go on, rub it in why not? Kick a man when he's down.... Can someone else post something gorgeous to give my tear ducts a rest? Please? Anyone?
  8. K, like most 240s, this came from a 40s Angelus desk clock - I had one myself earlier this year, not even the stem wound variant but I received a big offer so I flipped it. As for Gil's watch here, I could give you all the details you want (dial, case etc..) but it's painful *sniff*....nooooo, it's no good I can't help it...waaaaaaaaah!
  9. Stunningly beautiful I admit to feeling a touch of 'what if/if only' remorse it must be said That hand-engraved dial is something else, and that's before we get to the movt. But tell me, what did you do with the Dirk Delux strap?
  10. Hmmm, interesting to see there's no Pam 6152-1s.....yet.....I know of at least a couple out there with Angelus c.240....I wonder if they'll show face? C'mon guys, no need for shyness
  11. Nice to see a healthy dose of one-upmanship here Euno - never complete without your frankens on show - always a pleasure to see those beauties plan on playing 'snap' in the new year L&T - glad to see you finally pulled the 16710 it together, I know it was a bit hairy for a little while back there, so big congrats she looks amazing (PM me re. the 'transplant' )
  12. Nope I thought it was an gen EP - assumed since you posted in a franken thread you'd sourced a movt and put together a chimaera using gen dial etc. - the rotor fooled me. FWIW, Rolex heavily modifies the El Primero 400 in the Daytona. Rolex buys the raw ébauches from Zenith, without the balance assembly, jewels, or plate finishing. The Daytona uses a Rolex balance assembly, which includes the Glucydur balance wheel, Breguet hairspring, pallet set, and drive train wheels. With Rolex's own balance assembly, the beat is downgraded to 28,800 bph from the speedy 36,000 bph.
  13. An OEM El Primero, nice.....just curious, where did you find that? *edit* aha not genuine after all, a little birdie pointed out what my eye missed, the 400 on the bridge
  14. Really??? I find that amusingly ironic, given Rolex's history re. NASA and the 007 film franchise production team. Legend has it both times, those organisations called Rolex SA/USA, and both times were given short shrift by the clerk they reached and were either flatly refused or quoted full retail price. Arrogance and short-sightedness are both inherent qualities of Rolex as a company. Both organisations went elsewhere, and the rest is history. That's why I loved that line in Casino Royale, where Vesper asks Bond, "Rolex?' to which he replies curtly 'Omega'. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound!
  15. Actually, this came up at last weekend whilst browsing Omegas at my local AD - the manager went to pull an 'orange' on me, I raised a manly eyebrow fixed him with a thousand-yard stare and jabbed a manly finger at the black version. 'Only oranges look good in orange' I stated as if to drive the point home even further. He gave a conspiratorial sideways look before concurring he also hated the orange before pulling out the latest just-in 2006-7 dealer brochure. ' Here, look at THIS monstrosity....' THIS IS BY DEFINITION OF THIS THREAD, THE GAYEST WATCH OF THEM ALL.... I warn you all now, the picture you are about to see are liable to make you gasp in shock, little children scream in terror, and Tom Cruise to smile appreciately (oops, ANOTHER slur ). Furthermore I accept no liability for any unforeseen adverse events from viewing said pic. So without furthe.....Aaargh, my eyes!!! (*clawing and scratching*)
  16. Hey Puggy, interesting that the 111 in your sig seems to sport what looks suspiciously like a strap with a definite hint d'orange. The plot thickens...
  17. Nothing 'modest' about what looks like a nice TW best 16610 with full mods inc. what looks like a nice gen pearl/insert
  18. Do I win a prize Ubi? Do I? A custom Watchmeister datewheeeeeeeeeeeeeel perhaps?
  19. Aha! I remember exactly now - the prototypes used obvious redials in that the DATE was painted on afterwards in goofy extra-large text. Michael's dial was actually better than the gen
  20. Am I missing something here? Thought we were just debating (again) the merits of this particular new model (i.e. genuine), which is worthy of debate. That one comment aside, seriously no-one is really considering the hows of somehow repping this ugly child using a faux movt.? Surely not, that's even more than the styling of the genuine
  21. No 'Date' after 'Oyster Perpetual' perhaps? Nah, that's not it is it?...Go on then spill! My brain hurts now, Monday thing
  22. Restating the obvious already said but... Val.7753 yes definite interest as long it is a 'true' 7753, no 'fake [censored] and face-lift' please
