  1. Sorry but that's a bit of a generalisation based on your own experience. I've also had many problems with them DESPITE accurate adddressed items - lost, taken back to depot miles away, their delivery guys never ringing just chucking card through letterbox, misdelivery to neighbours, the list goes on....luckily recently I seem to be able to rely on them to leave items with neighbours, who are fortunately kind and friendly enough to let me know
  2. Have been liaising with Jay re. final final details - things are in process, although there has been a problem with the rubber strap (a delay rather than anything serious). I am getting some proof photos hopefully before CNY - once prototype is signed off, Jay will get production moving. So patience gents - all good things come to those who wait
  3. Agree wholeheartedly. Vintage collecting if you have to scavenge parts is becoming harder and harder, unless you have either plenty of time or money or preferably both on your hands. Of course, the challenge that presents is what makes it such fun.....ok well sometimes at least Personally, I always keep my eye out for certain models which look like they've spent a week at Uncle Bob's Boot Camp up in frozen Alaska, with an view on whether either movement or case can be salvaged from the wreckage. Even those are fetching crazzzeeeeeee prices though
  4. Aha, finally a pic of one of the twins FWIW, without being anal as to the accurate font match for the serial year (Ubi will be up in a couple of hours ) I prefer the top one, split regardless.
  5. Good advice there No reviews I suspect because they've only just been advertised, never mind received. If you're that concerned or simply want the best PO you can buy then just stretch the extra few quid (or if you have a good relationship with your dealer, just haggle like Rico says) and pony up for the ETA version. However, if you want a watch to play around with, mod, give as a gift (i.e. cheapskate ), or if you want to spend your life regulating the time against an online atomic clock and having sleepless nights/giving yourself an ulcer worrying about if it's going to pack in, then sure go for the cheapo version. But be warned, the Seagull (Venus or Lemania clone) aside, there is not an Asian mechanical movement made yet that even comes close to the reliability or accuracy of a nice swiss ETA (and don't even think about mentioning 'there's no such thing as Swiss all made in Asia' [censored] - loose pack or not the parts' QC is the same, a quick service and voila!).
  6. Any update on the 187 buckle yet Angus? Nag nag pester pester I know
  7. Jeez just get yourself a gen dial and search down the back of your sofa for a spare Valj.23 or EP
  8. I agree the new style 26/22 rubber strap (187 et al.) are much comfier - also got me a rep one in bespoke 24/24 very nice However, I'll also take another of these old-style - 1 x with deployant clasp please. Talking of the 187 Angus, how goes the buckle engraving?! Heard back yet? Drmmmm.....drmmmmm......drmmmm, that's the sound of mine and many others' fingers drumming away impatiently
  9. Is that code for something Randy? If so, I don't want to know ok
  10. Like under your fridge you mean Randy? Pfff, you fellas and your all-American wooden work benches down in a dingey dungeon basement..... Me? I have a 'portable system' in that I take over one side of our glass dining table in front of a floor-ceiling window (great natural light) and use my GF's cutting mat (she's a graphic designer not a butcher ) as a base with appropriate protection taken. A small toolbox comes out of the utility room, and my parts are all kept in a transparent acrylic multidrawer unit (Muji if any fellow Brits are interested). Powerbook sits on other side of table if I need to refer to it. Ultimately the price I pay for the luxury of having a 'modular'/bijou/cosy/put-away system is that I have to be ultra-organised and clean and tidy my crap up after each surgical session
  11. You talking about in the RoyEx in the City? Will he give me another strap during the chat? Or a significant reduction?
  12. I doubt River will help you (even if you do have similar names ) However, you do have a helpful PM now
  13. Nope we remember The Zigmeister - I'll refer to my earlier post on this joker's thread, where I put forward my belief that whatever this guy's motives, his actions and/or behaviour point to the fact he could benefit from a little chlorpromazine...
  14. Quite. Crazeee prices - I hate to think what the intrinsic value of that 203 is? Price probably inflated by the circumstances and nature of the auction - so-called 'gavel hypertension'. Anyway, I thought all 203s were offered by invitation only and anyone flipping one quite so quickly (within a year or so) would find themselves persona non grata with Angelo Bonati
  15. Nice to see the PO Chrono get a mention. Sure it's far from perfect, but it's built to the same spec as the U-PO and I know plenty of ADs even in central London that haven't even seen one never mind handled one. Personally, having worn all 3 gen variants, for me the only one that works is the black with orange indices on rubber/orange stitch strap. The all-black is too 'meh', the all-orange too 'bleeurgh', this one is Goldilock's choice....juuuust right As for the rep version, I am tempted to get this and buy the gen 22/20 strap/clasp (not RRP of course which is obscenely OTT). Datewheel font I'm not sure about but a gen ETA 7750 datewheel swapout is inexpensive if it bothers you. The subdial spacing you can't do much about but it is possible to bring the datewheel closer to the dial by some chrono transfer gear 'surgery' (mind the autowinder bridge!) - of course you won't have a chrono function anymore but hey if you don't use it anyway..... I recall another poster proposed building a Franken by obtaining a gen movt (and dial/hands etc.). Nice idea but I'd love to know how one could procure such a movt? I mean we're talking about the calibre 3313 here, a COSC-certified chrono movt with a column wheel mechanism for accuracy and co-axial escapement for efficiency (PR about 52 hours). It's pretty much their flagship movt.
  16. Good spot Alan Pity dial won't fit any rep Sub without mods (and then maybe only the TW Best) but the hands are useless if you don't have a c.3035/3135. Wonder if it's a one-off or if the seller has more goodies up his sleeve?
  17. Good advice. The gen rubber (mine is the 22mm for my U-PO) is vastly superior to the (20mm) Seamaster rep rubber strap. I say if you can wait, I understand a 22mm rep is in process. If you can't wait, then go with Josh/Andrew or otherwise buy the gen....because you're worth it
  18. Yep, catalogue was no help Here's another couple pics if you need them - one showing the raised ridges (I make it 4 each side) and another showing the texture of the leather.
  19. Actually I have the AD catalogue for these models - will have a look in there tonight...unless of course you've already checked that source?
  20. Sorry M, I agree it's a scam auction, but the movt shown here (1030) WAS used in the first 6542s, as was the later COSC c.1065. Source HERE
