  1. back in 1986 i talked my father into buying me a rolex for my 13th birthday. not sure how i did it but i found myself at the jeweler. my original object of desire was the daytona - the store had the 6263 i wanted. When I tried it on I loved it. I was also told they had a Submariner (16800) as well that had just come in. At that time the 16800 was a tough watch to find. They where similar in price. I now had an issue as I really liked the 16800 as well. I made my choice The 16800 was self winding the 6263 was manual - the 16800 had a sapphire crystal the 6263 had a plastic crystal - I prefered the bracelet for the 16800 - I liked the weight and size of the 16800 I picked the Sub and it has been on my wrist everyday for the past 22+ years. That said I always loved the 6263 and could not get it out of my mind. To that end I now have a DW 6263 exactly like the one I almost got way back when. It is not perfect but I will fix those items that are not as I can afford. From a "what's it worth" I should have stuck with my original goal but I am happy with the way things turned out.
  2. got my gen sub as a b-day present when i turned 13 - have worn it nearly every day of the past 23 years.
  3. No - I believe the ETA 2890-2 is correctly referenced. It is the movement used in the Omega Reduced Speedmaster. Movement can be seen here http://www.ofrei.com/page624.html
  4. was looking for one to buy for my wife as well but I doubt you will find a good one especially in an automatic version The gen movement is based off the ETA 2892 with a chrono module/plate installed. I have spoken to a local AD and found I could purchase it for about $2300 (with out all the rocks as that is too blingy for her) So once I build up a little more liquidity (hate this economy) I will splurge and get her one
  5. very interested in a 3,6,9 layout swiss 7750 with seconds at 9 myself. if you get an answer or find a source please let me know
  6. fair enough - though i am wanting a true gmt movement and not a tweaked 2836. i have an tweaked asian one now. do the 2836 watches have the same crown position.
  7. will a 2893 be an easy swap into any of the asian explorer II's think i have procured an eta 2893 and would like to build an explorer II styled watch though I plan to have a sterile dial and likely replace the crown with an unbranded one. do not want to drop a lot of coin on an "eta" version since I plan to pull the movement
  8. thank you - have already started to check on that. don't want to delay my arrival but hey what can a guy do
  9. so what would you say needs to be modded first
  10. looks good - waiting on mine (should ship in the next day or so) here is a picture that I received today of the finished watch yes it is a modded 7750 movement (hacking removed as well as autowinding rotor and gears)
  11. what moevement does that watch (gen) use. I have a couple of Val 7733's that I am looking to put to use and that if it would work would be perfect
  12. personally never understood why people do that. nothing wrong with it though
  13. running the chrono all the time seems very silly to me - it is a watch with a stop watch complication. Use the stop watch for it's intended purpose. I rarely use the chrono but I do from time to time when I need to.
  14. I have a gen 16800 since new (1986) with a tritium dial. The lume still works but is now very dim. The last time I had it serviced which was earlier this year I asked about having it relumed with tritium and was told it was possible but would take about a month to get back. Told him I would think about it. I believe the half life of tritium is about 12.5 years so you can do the math.
  15. So I have these two chrono movements - Anyone have any good / interesting ideas on what to do with them
  16. well it looks like the one from the Wakmann is a Venus 188 - Marked as a 188 under the balance wheel above the 188 is a star surrounded by a "stylized" box 17 jewels.
  17. neither have a date function so I believe the top (vulcain) is a Valjoux 7733 - the Wakmann though looks similar does appear to be different
  18. ok one more stupid question(s) why the sudden price jump - i do really want one as they seem to be my best option but it seems between case/val 72/and dial i am looking at about $2800 to $3000 which is more than I want to bite on right now. If there is a good chance prices will fall or remain even I will wait. If however this time next year i am looking at $5,000 I might just go ahead and bite. I would also imagine a good bracelet will be pushing close to a grand as well.
  19. still looking - this may be a stupid question but it looks like he is just selling parts at the moment also seems prices have really jumped in the past 3 months
  20. so is this DW http://www.ioffer.com/i/36605546
  21. As I mentioned in the last post I would like to build one but can not justify the minimum of $2500 to $3000 at this time - I have seen mention of the DW watch. Where do I find it? I would be very interested as I should be able to upgrade it to what I really want over time Would be nice if I could utilize one of the vintage movements I have listed under the "what are these" on the Movement sub forum. I believe you identified one as Val 7734 - I believe it is actually a 7733 as it does not have a date function on it. The other one is still a mystery again thank you for your help - And again if some one could point towards a source of the DW watches.
  22. So that really is a Lemanian? Ok enough info I will pass on this watch. Really want to build a 6263 with a V72 but can't justify the required cash to do so in this environment.... Still wanted a 6263 though That is the watch I could have bought for $1130 new when I bought my gen 16800 Sub. Went with the sub as it was hard to find at the time and was an automatic and had the sapphire crystal..... Still always had a soft spot for that chrono though. Still have my 16800 though and it is near perfect.
  23. was looking at the the 6263 from King. What are the flaws it is listed as having a Lemanian 1847 but it is probably a seagul (not great at picking them on site) - if that is the case what does the dial at 6 actually do if anything. She says that all function and the last email says it is running seconds. on the 6263 the running seconds should be at 9 here are some photos
