  1. There's a flaw in this statement. Can anyone else spot it?
  2. Sure you did. Some of the surplus movements are 100% Swiss.
  3. Hence my smiley. ps. It appears that the term "Super Rep" was first coined by Phoband in November, 2006, whereas "SuperRep" is mine and dates back to March 2007. It looks like we'll have to get Phoband to write the dictionary definition. Yay, I escaped that one. pps. The term "Super-Rep" with a hyphen was Chrgod's coinage, a week before I started using my CamelCase term.
  4. Wednesday, I think I'll start the day with this one:
  5. These are known as "Genuine Panerai Parts" and as such are hideously expensive. You can get a Swiss movement, but the parts made specially for Panerai will be Chinese knock-offs (aka Replica).
  6. Because it's hard. Actually, it's probably because with seconds-at-six, you get one of the most popular, well-known watches out there, available in a kazillion flavours. With seconds-at-twelve, you get a costly niche rep.
  7. That's a gen ETA, yes.
  8. Just because I have bought a few watches from a dealer doesn't mean that it's not a stupid choice. ps. It's not a stupid choice.
  9. This info is easily findable in my many, many posts on the subject. Still, if you're having difficulty trawling through them, TTK, Narikaa, Precious Time and Silix are the dealers I've done repeat business with, if that tells you anything. I've had good dealings with others, like Sash and River, but I try to deal with EU-based dealers these days. I've had bad dealings with other dealers, and that too is freely available information available via the search feature. Check out the "My Collection" link below for my purchasing history.
  10. Damn, we've got thicker French air in our tyres. I'd best get them refilled with thinner Scottish air! Thanks for the reminder.
  11. I only buy from dealers I know will sell me what they tell me they will sell me. This means that the dealer is up front and honest with me and I know that I will get what I am paying for. One dealer on this very board stated that he would not offer services because he knows that the people that he'd get to do the servicing would short-change him and there would be no way of checking up. He's being honest and up front.
  12. Of course I know who has them. My problem is one of cash-flow, not of inability to source them. Also, I've moved house. I'm no longer in Paris; I'm in Scotland. I moved house and now have no cash or job, which means no 3717 yet.
  13. In all honesty, if I were to get myself one of these (not unlikely) then I'd wear it out of the box. The AR sounds perfectly fine and even the day/date wheels don't bother me.
  14. The AR may not be as strong as the gen. Oh, and the lume certainly isn't. A gen dial and day/date wheels may be in order.
  15. I may do a bulk order of these and ship some to members in the US to save on the postage.
  16. I generally wear a Seiko automatic when being rugged.
  17. I didn't take it as a dig, don't worry.
  18. Seeing as the gen is
  19. It's the same bracelet design as the GST/Aquatimer 2000 one. The tricky part is the inner bezel, like on the larger Cousteau.
  20. We have a Daewoo Nexia here in Chez Pugwash ... It's worth about the same as a SuperRep.
  21. You think Bill Clinton, Sly or Ahnuld would know about the flat-top As? How about Heidi Klum?
  22. If you have a few dollars and fancy doing a test, I recommend that you get a Steelfish or Ferrari chrono. Not cheap, but you can flip them for very little loss if you don't like them. Once you've tried one, you'll understand. There's a different feel to them. I first felt it on the UPO, then on the Steelfish and the quality of replication is making those two a heavy part of my regular rotation. Caveat: I've never seen/held the Ferrari reps, so I'm just going on reports.
  23. Yes, but when I posted it at first, I was trying to be generous and to allow the dealers to save face. If I'd have known the flak I was going to get for it from the dealers etc, I'd have used stronger language from the get go.
  24. Most Ferrari owners couldn't tell you the horse power rating of their engine produces or how to change the oil. It's not the point to them. I'd be very surprised to meet a Panerai wearer that could out even the $110 Silix rep without prompting. ps. In your story, the guy didn't know it was a replica. He was covering up for his ignorance.
