  1. You have to look very carefully to see the stepping in a 25,200 movement. I suspect the Co-Axial doesn't run as well at 28,800, which is why they're slowing it down.
  2. I would have done exactly the same. You don't just buy something like this to wear. It has to be a thing of beauty and be resellable down the line.
  3. No new studio pics still, but this is my repaired and running 3714. Hooray for donor escapements and graphite. ... and here's a crappy iPhone wristshot just so I can claim to have a new picture
  4. That'd be nice. I've entered gen raffles on all the rep sites and not won one yet. It'd make me very happy to win this one. ... and yes, my lucky streak is due a comeback.
  5. The Co-Axial escapement is an Omega thing. Sure, it was invented by an Englishman, but when you see a Co-Axial Omega 2500, you know that while it may have started life as an ETA 2892, it's not available in any non-Omega watches. The 8500 is just a further step away from standard movements for Omega. It also, like the 3135, has a two point bridge, instead of the single-point used in ETA movements. Bold move, gorgeous movement. I want. ps. I suppose it has two barrels so it can run at 28,800 without running out of steam, unlike the 2500 which is slowed to 25,200.
  6. That's a 21k movement. You can see it from the regulator.
  7. Yeah, that worked. Count me in for number 23
  8. Nice. As long as you're patient, you'll be fine with them.
  9. For fitting hands, if you can't afford the proper tool, try chopping the head off a cotton bud. I find this makes an excellent hour hand tool.
  10. If humidity is a problem, before casing a watch, leave all the parts in a ziplock bag with a pouch of Silica Gel. That'll dehumidify anything short of a glass of water.
  11. All IWC bits: http://www.acejewelers.com/ProductOverview/en/page/45.aspx?S=iwc Ti Bracelet for 1200€: http://www.acejewelers.com/IWC-Watch-Strap-Titanium/en/product/869.aspx
  12. Anyone tried one of these yet? I may get one for my Portuguese. http://www.acejewelers.com/IWC-Pin-buckle-18mm-in-Stainless-Steel/en/product/696.aspx They've also got gen bracelets, like the GST one for
  13. I now use Rodico instead of the post-it, but the principle is the same.
  14. That's how it all started for me. I've made my fair share of mistakes along the way, and I'm still an untrained fumbling amateur, but here's something I realised when I hit my 20s: There is nothing that one normal person can do that you cannot yourself do if you put your mind to it. Sure, you'll not be Zigaroonie in a day , or maybe even ever, but that doesn't mean you can't learn something as basic as a datewheel change or even fixing the keyless works on a 2836. There's absolutely no magic to it. As long as you've got a pair of steady hands and at least one working eye, you can learn how to uncase a movement, remove the hands and dial and get stuck in. The only resources I used to learn how to do this was this very forum (and RepGeek to some degree) and a pirated PDF of the Timezone course. The forum was more useful than the TZ course. If I can do it, I'm sure as hell that a lot more people out there can.
  15. No-one buys RAM from Apple. Ok, let me clarify: No-one that would buy RAM as a separate component would buy RAM from Apple. The non-techies that have no intention of fitting their own RAM buy their Macs pre-filled, but these are the people that would pay Sony or Gateway to fit RAM at stupid prices as well.
  16. How would you know if it wasn't? If I get one, I'll let you all know. I'm just waiting on a price. I'm half-tempted to get the Asian one as I don't own an Asian ETA yet.
  17. On movements without a date, it doesn't matter.
  18. The proper UPO is so good, though. Here's mine after a few mods:
